Rehab Centers With Childcare in Minnesota

Rehab with childcare in Minnesota, as used on this page, means substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment for parents who need their children cared for while they attend. Families looking for pediatric therapy or physical rehabilitation for a child will need a different kind of provider. The programs listed here treat addiction and mental health conditions in adults.

Minnesota listings that mention childcare or family services come from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details supplied by the providers themselves. A little over half of these listings are in rural areas and the rest are in cities, in places such as Bemidji, Mora, Sandstone, Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Arrangements for children change, so confirm them with intake staff before you plan around them.

Common questions about Rehab With Childcare

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Minnesota cities have rehabs with childcare?

Bemidji, Mora, Sandstone, Minneapolis and the Longfellow Community are where Minnesota listings for rehab with childcare cluster. Parents can start with these places when looking for a program that keeps children close during treatment.

Minneapolis, Bemidji and Cambridge are the larger cities nearby. Families outside those areas may still find a program within driving distance, so comparing programs across towns can widen the options.

Rehab Centers in Bemidjihttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/minnesota/bemidji/
Do rehabs with childcare in Minnesota take Minnesota Medical Assistance?

Most of the rehabs with childcare in Minnesota record accepting Minnesota Medical Assistance. Coverage depends on the health plan a parent is enrolled in, such as HealthPartners, Hennepin Health, South Country Health Alliance or Itasca Medical Care (IMCare), so confirming the plan and whether childcare costs are covered separately is worth doing at intake.

Rehab Centers in Minnesota That Accept Minnesota Medical Assistancehttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/minnesota/minnesota-medical-assistance/
Are there rehabs with childcare near a river in Minnesota?

The Minnesota River, the Schoolcraft River and the Ann River are named most frequently near rehabs with childcare in Minnesota. Nearly all of the rehabs with childcare in Minnesota sit within 25 miles of a river, with distances measured from each facility rather than from a town center.

Programs are a median of about 6.1 miles from the nearest river. For parents, a river setting matters less than drive time, school routes and where children will stay during treatment.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

Are there treatment programs in Minnesota where children can stay with a parent?

Yes, some Minnesota programs let children stay with a parent through family residential care, where a child lives on site during treatment. The Minnesota Department of Human Services uses the federal block grant to fund Women’s Recovery Services grants, which cover family residential, outpatient and peer recovery services for pregnant and parenting women.

Programs that house children usually set limits on children’s ages and on how many children can come, so ask about both on the first call. Other programs offer care only during treatment hours, or staff help a parent arrange childcare elsewhere, and listings often use the word childcare loosely.

Fathers and two-parent families should ask each program directly whether it can house them with their children, because much family residential care in Minnesota is designed around mothers. To compare settings, start with residential rehab in Minnesota or programs for pregnant women in Minnesota.

Medical Assistance, Minnesota’s Medicaid program, can pay for residential or outpatient treatment, though childcare outside a program is usually billed separately. Seeking treatment voluntarily and an open child welfare case are separate matters, and no treatment provider can decide custody; a caseworker or family law attorney can answer questions about a specific case.

What kinds of childcare do Minnesota treatment programs offer?

Minnesota programs handle childcare in one of three ways: children live on site, children are cared for during treatment hours, or staff help the parent arrange care somewhere else. Listings often use the word childcare loosely, so match the wording to one of these models:

ModelWhat it looks like
Children live on siteFamily residential; parent and child share housing
Care during sessionsOn-site childroom while a parent attends day or outpatient care
Help arranging careStaff connect the family to outside childcare or relatives

Minnesota listings that mention childcare or family services report several levels of care: residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, standard outpatient and medication for opioid use disorder. The groups served include pregnant and postpartum women and mothers, and some listings also name fathers. For a wider view, see the national guide to rehab with childcare.

Every Minnesota program with childcare in these listings sits within 25 miles of a river, most often the Minnesota River, at a median distance of 6.1 miles. Minneapolis-Saint Paul International is the nearest major airport for a little under half of them. The median distance to the nearest airport is 42.5 miles, so families coming from the north, near Lake Bemidji, should plan for a longer trip.

How can parents in Minnesota pay for treatment and childcare?

Medical Assistance, Minnesota’s Medicaid program, sets payment rates for both residential substance use disorder care and outpatient counseling, so parents can use it for either level. Health plans that administer Medical Assistance include Blue Plus, HealthPartners, Hennepin Health, Medica, PrimeWest Health, South Country Health Alliance and UCare. More on coverage is on the Medicaid listings page.

Federal rules give pregnant women a preference in admission at block grant funded programs. If no program can admit a pregnant woman, the state must offer interim services, including a referral for prenatal care, within 48 hours. Parents without coverage can look at state-funded rehab in Minnesota and sliding-scale programs. Childcare outside a program is usually billed separately. Ask intake staff or a caseworker whether Minnesota child care assistance can apply while you are in treatment.

How does entering treatment in Minnesota relate to custody or a child welfare case?

Seeking treatment voluntarily and having an open child welfare case are separate matters, and one does not settle the other. Minnesota’s Opiate Epidemic Response Fund supports child protection work for families affected by addiction, so child protection staff may already know the local treatment options. When a baby is born after prenatal substance exposure, hospital staff or a caseworker may bring up a plan of safe care for the infant. A family law attorney or the assigned caseworker can answer questions about a specific case. No treatment provider can decide custody.

What should parents ask a Minnesota program before admission?

Before admission, ask a Minnesota program about:

  • the age range and number of children it accepts
  • whether its childcare is licensed
  • the hours care is available
  • how school-age children get to class
  • which services the children themselves receive
  • what happens when a child is sick
  • which languages staff speak

Spanish-speaking families can browse Spanish-speaking rehab in Minnesota.

If no program with childcare is nearby

Parents far from a program with childcare still have options. Minnesota Health Care Programs pay for substance use disorder treatment delivered by live video. Audio-only visits are covered until July 1, 2027, when they are scheduled and the standard of care can be met. See telehealth rehab in Minnesota. Evening intensive outpatient groups can fit around a partner’s or relative’s schedule. Some families arrange kinship care with grandparents or other relatives. A caseworker can also say whether any temporary voluntary care arrangement is available.

Where to get help now

In a crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Minnesota does not appear to run a single statewide substance use phone line. The national treatment referral line and the federal treatment locator can point you to programs. A state health handout also described Fast-Tracker as a free online search of treatment openings. To keep looking here, return to all Minnesota listings.
