Minnesota’s Department of Human Services licenses treatment programs and funds services for pregnant and parenting women through the federal block grant. Common questions about Women's Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are women's rehabs in Minnesota?

Women's rehab listings in Minnesota gather most heavily in Minneapolis, followed by Rochester, Duluth, Saint Paul and Grand Rapids. Together, those places account for the largest share of listings for women across the state.

Minneapolis, Duluth and Rochester are the larger cities near much of the state's women's listings, so a search often starts in one of them, depending on where a woman lives and how far she can travel.

Rehab Centers in Minneapolishttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/minnesota/minneapolis/
Does Minnesota Medical Assistance cover women's rehab in Minnesota?

Nearly all of the women's rehabs in Minnesota record accepting Minnesota Medical Assistance, so coverage is widely available. Coverage runs through a health plan such as Blue Plus, HealthPartners, Hennepin Health, Medica or UCare. Asking intake staff to confirm the specific plan before admission is a sensible first step.

Rehab Centers in Minnesota That Accept Minnesota Medical Assistancehttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/minnesota/minnesota-medical-assistance/
Are there women's rehabs near a river in Minnesota?

Within 25 miles of nearly all of the women's rehabs in Minnesota lies a river, and the median distance to the nearest one is about 7.2 miles. The Minnesota River tops the named rivers, and the Credit River and the Rum River also appear.

Intake staff can describe the grounds, the neighborhood and any outdoor space, since setting details vary from one program to the next. Each distance is measured from the listed facility itself.

What women-only treatment options are there in Minnesota?

Minnesota listings for women include residential, outpatient and other levels of care. Some are fully women-only programs, and others are women’s tracks inside co-ed settings. A women’s track may share a building, a medical team or an intake office with men’s services while running separate groups or housing, so ask how much of the day is women-only. You can compare residential programs in Minnesota and outpatient programs in Minnesota, then narrow to listings that note women’s services.

Women’s listings in Minnesota often note trauma-informed care and mental health services offered alongside substance use treatment. Programs that treat both conditions appear under dual diagnosis treatment in Minnesota. Listings with Spanish-language services are gathered on the Spanish-speaking rehab page.

Mapped women’s listings in Minnesota are 40 percent urban, 36 percent in towns and 24 percent rural. Nearly all of them, 99 percent, sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the Minnesota River. The nearest airport is a median of 13.9 miles away, and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International is the closest major airport for about half.

Admission questions to ask

Ask each program about its age range first. Minnesota law lets a minor of any age consent to alcohol and drug services (Minn. Stat. 144.343), but each program sets its own age limits. Ask how the program handles gender identity, including whether transgender and nonbinary people are admitted to women-only housing and groups. Also ask about pregnancy, children, current medications and its waitlist.

Do pregnant women get priority for treatment in Minnesota?

Yes, Minnesota programs that receive federal block grant funds must give pregnant women preference in admission. Under 45 CFR 96.131, pregnant people who inject drugs come first, then other pregnant people with a substance use disorder. If no program can admit you, the state must arrange interim services within 48 hours, including a referral for prenatal care. The Behavioral Health Administration at the Department of Human Services administers the grant. It also funds Women’s Recovery Services grants for family residential, outpatient and peer recovery services for pregnant and parenting women.

Pregnant callers should mention the pregnancy on the first call, along with the due date and any prenatal provider. Ask whether the program continues or starts medication for opioid use disorder during pregnancy and how it works with your obstetric care. Any change to a medication should be made with a prescriber, not alone. Ask Medical Assistance or your county how long postpartum coverage lasts.

Minnesota’s civil commitment law (Minn. Stat. 253B.02) can apply to a pregnant woman with habitual nonmedical use of certain substances. Questions about reporting and confidentiality are fair to raise with intake staff or a lawyer. Listings for rehab for pregnant women in Minnesota show which programs accept pregnant clients.

Can you bring your children to treatment in Minnesota?

Some Minnesota programs let children stay with their mother during treatment, and others provide childcare during sessions. Family residential care is one of the services the state’s Women’s Recovery Services grants support. Before you apply, ask about the ages and number of children allowed, how school is handled, and what hours childcare covers for outpatient groups. Programs that list these options appear under rehab with childcare in Minnesota.

How do women pay for treatment in Minnesota?

Women in Minnesota pay for treatment through Medical Assistance, state-funded services, sliding-scale fees, private insurance or TRICARE, depending on what each listing accepts. Medical Assistance is Minnesota’s Medicaid program, run by the Department of Human Services. It also covers adults without children.

Most Medical Assistance members get their coverage through a health plan. Plans include Blue Plus, HealthPartners, Hennepin Health, IMCare, Medica, PrimeWest Health, South Country Health Alliance and UCare. MinnesotaCare is a separate state program. Benefits differ by plan, so ask the admissions team to check yours before you start.

For 2026, Medical Assistance pays $400 a day for clinically managed residential care and $515 a day for medically monitored residential care, before add-ons. See programs that accept Medicaid, state-funded rehab in Minnesota and sliding-scale rehab in Minnesota.

How is a recovery residence for women different from treatment in Minnesota?

A recovery residence in Minnesota, often called a sober home, is housing with rules about substance use, not a licensed clinical service. Treatment programs are licensed by the Department of Human Services under Minn. Stat. chapter 245G, and you can ask the department to confirm a program’s license.

Minnesota sober homes must meet the standards in Minn. Stat. 254B.181. These require naloxone on site, written policies and a residents’ bill of rights. Complaints go to the Ombudsman for Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. From January 1, 2027, the Department of Human Services will run a certified recovery residence program and registry. The Minnesota Association of Sober Homes is the state’s affiliate of the national recovery residence association. Women-only houses appear among sober living homes in Minnesota.

Where to start a search

No statewide substance use phone line was found for Minnesota. Fast-Tracker is a free online statewide search of mental health and substance use treatment openings. In a crisis, call or text 988. The national treatment referral line can also suggest programs. Listings on RehabSeekers.com’s Minnesota page draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and information the providers send in themselves. For women’s care in other states, see women’s rehab nationwide.
