Does Cigna Cover Rehab in Montana?

Yes, for members of Cigna Healthcare employer plans. Cigna’s employer coverage lists substance use benefits as inpatient and outpatient treatment with follow-up case management, and in Montana those plans run on the national Open Access Plus and PPO networks, which include out-of-network coverage, used by drug and alcohol programs statewide.

Cigna Healthcare is part of The Cigna Group, and its sister company Evernorth Behavioral Health administers the behavioral benefit. Cigna sells no individual plan in Montana, sold its Medicare business to Health Care Service Corporation in 2025 and runs no Medicaid plan, so rehabs that accept Cigna in Montana mostly see employer cards, many of them self-funded.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Montana?

Yes, with authorization. Evernorth Behavioral Health’s authorization grid requires authorization before substance use inpatient or rehab stays and before residential treatment, and the facility’s staff complete a face-to-face assessment before calling the plan with clinical details. Cigna’s own treatment guide describes long-term rehab with insurance as inpatient residential care of 28 days or more.

How long will Cigna pay for residential rehab in Montana?

For as long as Evernorth’s reviews find the stay medically necessary under the employer’s plan. Evernorth judges substance use levels of care with The ASAM Criteria from the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the 28-day figure in Cigna’s guide describes a typical residential program, not a limit written into Montana plans.

Who asks Cigna for authorization of a Montana rehab stay?

The treatment program does. After its assessment, the facility calls the number on the back of the member’s ID card, and Cigna’s member disclosure says inpatient and non-routine outpatient services need prior authorization while routine outpatient behavioral visits do not. Members can check coverage in myCigna or through the behavioral line, 1 (800) 433-5768.

Does Cigna Cover Detox in Montana?

Yes. Cigna describes two detox levels: ambulatory detox, which Evernorth lists as needing no authorization, and inpatient detox with 24-hour medical care, which does need it. A Montana member starting outpatient detox programs can begin without a call to the plan, while inpatient medical detox waits for Evernorth.

Does Cigna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Montana?

Yes. Cigna describes intensive outpatient as three to five days a week for three to four hours a day and partial hospitalization as five to seven days a week for six to eight hours. Evernorth marks both as depending on the plan, so whether PHP programs with insurance need authorization depends on the employer’s plan.

Cigna members in Montana can see a therapist without any authorization: Evernorth lists outpatient psychotherapy, family and group therapy and medication management among services that need none. Cigna’s virtual behavioral network includes MDLIVE, Talkspace and Headspace Care, and covered virtual visits are paid at the same rate as in person, which helps members far from evening outpatient programs.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications in Montana?

Yes. Cigna ended prior authorization for buprenorphine medications for opioid use disorder in October 2016, and on its Standard 3-Tier drug list generic buprenorphine with naloxone and acamprosate sit on Tier 1, Zubsolv and Lucemyra on Tier 2 and brand Suboxone on Tier 3. Express Scripts handles pharmacy, and buprenorphine programs taking insurance work from that list.

Does Cigna cover methadone at Montana clinics?

Yes. Evernorth’s authorization grid lists methadone, given as a provider-administered outpatient service at a clinic, among treatments that need no authorization, and buprenorphine induction in an office is on the same list. Cost share follows the employer’s plan design, so a member at methadone maintenance clinics pays the plan’s outpatient amount.

Did Cigna change addiction drug tiers for 2026?

Only for naloxone, based on Cigna’s published list of changes. Cigna’s 2026 drug list changes move brand Narcan to Tier 3 from July 1, with generic naloxone named as the lower-cost choice, and list no 2026 changes for buprenorphine, Suboxone, Zubsolv, Vivitrol or naltrexone, so Vivitrol with insurance keeps its earlier tier.

Cigna Rehab Centers in Montana Near Lakes, National Forests and Airports

Cigna’s Open Access Plus and PPO networks reach every part of Montana in the same way, since Cigna’s narrower LocalPlus network is not sold in the state. A program near a lake, a national forest or an airport is either in Evernorth’s behavioral network or outside it, and plans with out-of-network coverage pay less for the second kind.

Cigna rehab near lakes

Lake settings range from Whitefish Lake in Flathead County and Seeley Lake in Missoula County to Fort Peck Lake on the Missouri River in the northeast. Rehabs near lakes and Evergreen treatment programs near Kalispell follow Evernorth’s grid: residential admission needs authorization, a first therapy visit does not.

Cigna rehab near national forests

National forest country includes the Lolo National Forest around Missoula and the Kootenai National Forest around Libby, Troy and Eureka in Lincoln County. Cigna members heading to programs near national forests or Eureka drug and alcohol rehabs keep the same Evernorth rules, with ASAM criteria deciding the level of care.

Cigna rehab near major airports

Montana’s main commercial airports serve Billings, Bozeman and Missoula, and a Cigna member can fly to treatment since Open Access Plus and PPO plans use one national network. Rehabs near major airports in other states count as in network when Evernorth contracts with them, though the member still needs authorization for residential care.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Cigna in Montana?

Browse the listings on this page. Each program shown lists Cigna among the insurance it takes, and filters narrow the list by city, level of care and substance. Every listing shows the program’s phone number, so a call can go straight to admissions, and programs that accept Evernorth sit on their own page.

Admission with Cigna runs through Evernorth authorization for inpatient, residential and inpatient detox care, which the program requests after its assessment. A member on an Allegiance-administered plan follows Allegiance’s own review process instead, and Trustmark small business plans may use the Cigna PPO network. Cigna rehab in Missoula

Missoula is home to Allegiance Benefit Plan Management on South Garfield Street, a third-party administrator owned since 2008 by Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, a Cigna subsidiary. Allegiance Care Management, its in-house clinical team, handles utilization review for the plans it runs, which matters for members using Orchard Homes treatment programs near Missoula.

Cigna rehab in Helena

Helena School District employees are on a self-funded plan administered by Allegiance that lists residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care, and the plan strongly urges pre-certification through 800-342-6510. Allegiance ran the State of Montana Benefit Plan from 2016 to 2022, but Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana administers it now for state workers near Helena treatment centers.

Cigna rehab in Kalispell and the Flathead

Northwest Montana Schools’ Health Consortium members carry the Allegiance-administered Comprehensive 3000 plan, which pays inpatient and residential chemical dependency care at 70 percent after the deductible. The first three outpatient visits are free with the deductible waived, and MDLIVE telemedicine is covered for members near Kalispell rehab programs.

Cigna rehab in Billings

Billings small businesses with five or more employees can buy Trustmark self-funded or level-funded plans, which use either the Cigna PPO network or Aetna Signature Administrators. A Trustmark card shows which network applies, and Trustmark says plan design can vary by state, and the network named there decides whether downtown Billings rehab programs are in network for that employee.

Can I use Cigna for rehab outside Montana?

Yes, on most Cigna employer plans. Open Access Plus and PPO plans use a large national network and include out-of-network coverage, so a Montana member can enter an Evernorth-contracted program in another state at in-network cost. Allegiance plans differ by employer; the Northwest Montana Schools plan pays 70 percent in network and 60 percent outside it.

How much does rehab cost with Cigna in Montana?

Costs follow the employer’s design. Cigna employer plans have no separate behavioral health deductible, and across Cigna plan documents outpatient therapy is usually a flat copay outside the deductible, while inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care fall under coinsurance after the deductible. Allegiance school plans add the Montana-specific terms described above.

Cigna coverage is one route among several for Montana residents, and a member on a high deductible plan, waiting on authorization or facing coinsurance can compare other options. Listings here also show sliding scale outpatient rehab and residential rehab taking insurance, with each program’s payment terms shown on its listing.
