Court Ordered Rehab Centers in Nebraska

A Nebraska court can require drug or alcohol treatment as part of probation, a DUI sentence or a problem-solving court docket. A separate civil process can also order treatment through a mental health commitment. The program you choose has to match what the order says, so start with the paperwork from the judge or probation officer.

The listings below show Nebraska programs that report accepting court-ordered clients. Half are in urban areas, 38 percent are in rural settings, and the most common locations are Lincoln, Omaha, Norfolk and Columbus. Details come from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and information the providers send in themselves.

Common questions about Court Ordered Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Nebraska cities have court ordered rehabs?

Court ordered rehab listings in Nebraska cluster in Lincoln and Omaha first, followed by Norfolk, Columbus and Carter Lake. Asking the court or probation officer which programs count toward the order narrows the search.

Omaha, Lincoln and Norfolk are the larger cities nearby, which matters when sessions must be attended in person on a fixed schedule. Living within reach of one of them can make regular attendance and court check-ins easier to keep up.

Rehab Centers in Lincolnhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/nebraska/lincoln-ne/
Do court ordered rehab programs in Nebraska accept Medicaid?

Nebraska Medicaid is accepted by nearly all of the court ordered rehab programs in Nebraska, though coverage for court-required treatment still runs through the member's enrolled plan and its approval steps.

Heritage Health combines physical health, behavioral health, dental and pharmacy coverage, offered through Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare of Nebraska and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Checking which plan a member holds before intake can avoid delays.

Are there court ordered rehabs near a river in Nebraska?

Rivers sit within 25 miles of nearly all of the court ordered rehab programs in Nebraska, with a median of about 12.9 miles from each listed facility to the nearest one. The most-named rivers are the West Fork Big Blue River, the Boyer River and the Platte River.

How does a court order someone into treatment in Nebraska?

A Nebraska court usually orders someone into treatment in one of two ways: through a criminal case, as a condition of probation, a sentence or a problem-solving court, or through civil commitment under the Nebraska Mental Health Commitment Act. These routes follow different rules, so the first question is always which one applies.

On the criminal side, a judge can add treatment and drug or alcohol testing to probation or a sentence, and diversion before trial may be possible in some cases. Problem-solving courts run by district, county and juvenile courts handle drug, DUI, veterans, reentry, mental health and family treatment cases under a Nebraska Supreme Court committee.

Civil commitment is a separate, non-criminal process, and the state’s definition of a mentally ill and dangerous person includes someone who is substance dependent. Families weighing that route should get legal advice, because the procedure and protections differ from a criminal order.

A state license is the minimum a court will look for, and a judge or probation officer may add requirements of their own. Federal confidentiality rules mean a program can report attendance and progress to the court only once you have signed written consent that names the court or officer, so ask intake staff what they report and how often.

Probation, sentencing and diversion

Nebraska judges can attach treatment and testing conditions to probation or a sentence. DUI sentencing under Neb. Rev. Stat. 60-6,197.03 sets probation conditions that include continuous alcohol monitoring and abstention for at least 90 to 180 days for people with three or more prior convictions. Diversion before trial may be another option in some cases. The defense attorney can explain whether it is available and what it would require. For education and treatment linked to drinking-and-driving charges, see DUI and DWI programs in Nebraska.

Problem-solving courts

Neb. Rev. Stat. 24-1302 lets Nebraska district, county and juvenile courts run drug, DUI, veterans and other problem-solving courts. The statute also required at least one core court in every judicial district by January 1, 2024. A Nebraska Supreme Court committee and a Statewide Problem-Solving Court Director oversee 35 of these courts. The list covers adult drug and DUI, veterans, reentry, juvenile drug, young adult, mental health and family treatment courts. Veterans can also compare veterans rehab in Nebraska.

Civil commitment

The Nebraska Mental Health Commitment Act (Neb. Rev. Stat. 71-901 to 71-964) is a civil process, not a criminal one. Under 71-908, its definition of a mentally ill and dangerous person includes a person who is substance dependent. Families who are thinking about this route should get legal advice, because the process and the protections differ from a criminal court order.

Will a Nebraska court accept any licensed treatment program?

Not always: a state license is the minimum, and the judge, probation officer or court coordinator may add their own requirements. In Nebraska, residential programs need a Mental Health Substance Use Treatment Center license from the DHHS Division of Public Health Licensure Unit, under the Health Care Facility Licensure Act and 175 NAC 18. Providers paid through the six behavioral health regions must also meet 206 NAC chapter 4. Ask a program for its license number and look it up with the Licensure Unit.

Court reporting deserves its own question at intake. Federal confidentiality rules (42 CFR Part 2) mean a program can share attendance and progress with a court or supervising officer only after you sign a consent form naming that recipient. Ask the admissions team what they report, how often and in what format. Then share the answer with your officer. RehabSeekers.com cannot say whether a court will accept a particular program. Each listing shows accreditation, languages and populations served where the provider has reported them.

What levels of care can a Nebraska court require?

A court order can name a specific level of care or a minimum length of treatment. It can also simply require an assessment and then whatever care the assessor recommends. The table shows how common order wording lines up with the listing categories.

Order wordingListing category
Medically supervised withdrawalDetox
Inpatient or residential treatmentResidential
Day treatmentPartial hospitalization (PHP)
Intensive outpatientIOP
Counseling or aftercareOutpatient

Withdrawal from alcohol, benzodiazepines or opioids can be medically serious, so a court start date is no reason to stop using without medical support. For medication for opioid use disorder, the sources behind this page do not state Nebraska problem-solving court policy. Ask the court coordinator before starting, changing or stopping methadone or buprenorphine. Methadone clinics in Nebraska are listed separately.

How do you pay for court-ordered treatment in Nebraska?

Court-ordered treatment in Nebraska is paid for the same ways as other treatment: Medicaid, public funding through the regions, sliding-scale fees or private insurance. Nebraska Medicaid runs its managed care program as Heritage Health, and adults covered under the 2020 expansion are in Heritage Health Adult. The plans are Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare of Nebraska and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. See programs that accept Medicaid.

The DHHS Division of Behavioral Health directs federal block grant and state money through six regions, from Region 1 in the Panhandle to Region 6 in metro Omaha. Your region can say whether public funding fits your situation, and state-funded rehab in Nebraska lists programs that report taking it. Under the federal block grant rules, pregnant women are admitted first.

What happens if you miss sessions on a Nebraska treatment order?

The judge decides what happens after missed sessions, and the response varies from case to case. If you expect to miss a session, contact your attorney or supervising officer before it happens. Ask the program to note the absence and any make-up session in its next report.

Several help lines are available. Call or text 988 in a crisis. The Nebraska Family Helpline, (888) 866-8660, serves families with youth behavior concerns around the clock. The Rural Response Hotline is (800) 464-0258, and the national treatment referral line can suggest options too.

When reading these listings, note where the programs sit. Of the Nebraska programs listed for court-ordered clients, 94 percent are within 25 miles of a river, most often the West Fork Big Blue River. Eppley Airfield or Lincoln Airport is the nearest airport for about two in three, and the median distance to the nearest airport is 8.8 miles. To see other services, browse all Nebraska treatment listings or read about court-ordered treatment nationally.
