Low Cost Rehab Centers in Nebraska

Low cost rehab in Nebraska usually means care paid through Nebraska Medicaid, public money routed through the state’s six behavioral health regions, a sliding scale fee, payment assistance from a program, or free care. Each route has its own rules. None of them changes the level of care a person needs.

Programs on this page list at least one of those payment options. Details come from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings, and information the providers send us. Ask the admissions team about current fees before you start. For every program type across the state, see Nebraska treatment listings.

Common questions about Low Cost Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Nebraska cities have low-cost rehabs?

Low-cost rehab in Nebraska is listed mainly in Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, Columbus and Grand Island, the places where programs with reduced fees or public funding gather, in that order.

Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island are the larger cities nearest to listings across the state, so people in smaller towns often look to one of those three when comparing fees, payment options and the travel involved in regular appointments.

Rehab Centers in Omahahttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/nebraska/omaha/
Can I use Nebraska Medicaid for low-cost rehab?

Molina Healthcare of Nebraska is a Heritage Health plan, as are Nebraska Total Care and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, and each delivers Nebraska Medicaid coverage. Nearly all of the low-cost rehabs in Nebraska record accepting Nebraska Medicaid.

Under Heritage Health, one plan covers physical health, behavioral health, dental and pharmacy. Members can ask their plan which addiction services it covers and which programs are in its network.

Are there low-cost rehabs near a river in Nebraska?

A river lies within 25 miles of most of the low-cost rehabs in Nebraska, at a median of about 12.4 miles from listed facilities to the nearest one. The most-named rivers near these programs are the West Fork Big Blue River, the Boyer River and the North Fork Elkhorn River.

How can I get addiction treatment in Nebraska if I can’t afford it?

If you can’t afford addiction treatment in Nebraska, start with Medicaid, a slot funded through your behavioral health region, or a program that charges on a sliding scale. These routes are often confused, but each one works differently and has its own starting point.

Medicaid is public health coverage, run in Nebraska as Heritage Health, with Heritage Health Adult for adults covered by expansion. State funding is public money, federal block grant dollars included, that pays for care for eligible uninsured or low-income residents through six behavioral health regions, with Region 1 covering the Panhandle and Region 6 covering metro Omaha.

A sliding scale lowers the fee as household income drops, usually adjusted for household size, so bring proof of income to intake. Payment assistance is a discount, plan or scholarship a program offers on its own terms, while free care costs the patient nothing but is often paid by grants or charity funds and may have a waitlist.

Cost also depends on the level of care, not only on who pays. Outpatient programs, intensive outpatient and buprenorphine treatment usually cost less than residential rehab because people live at home. A cheaper option still needs to be safe, and stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines after heavy use may call for medically supervised detox first.

Separate pages list programs offering free rehab in Nebraska, sliding scale rehab in Nebraska and state-funded rehab in Nebraska.

Does Nebraska pay for rehab for people without insurance?

Nebraska funds treatment for eligible uninsured and low-income residents through the Division of Behavioral Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. The Division is the state’s designated mental health and substance use authority and administers the federal block grant. Funding reaches providers through six behavioral health regions, from Region 1 in the Panhandle to Region 6 in metro Omaha. Providers paid through the regions must meet the standards in 206 NAC chapter 4.

To get a funded assessment or referral, contact the behavioral health region for the county where you live and ask how its intake works. DHHS lists the Rural Response Hotline, (800) 464-0258, on its addiction treatment and recovery page. The Nebraska Family Helpline, (888) 866-8660, answers around the clock for families worried about a young person, including substance use.

Who is seen first in funded programs

Federal block-grant rules at 45 CFR 96.131 tell funded programs to admit pregnant women first. If no bed is open, interim services must start within 48 hours. The same rules also give priority to people who inject drugs. Nebraska has no separate named program for this, so ask any funded program how it applies the federal rule. Listings for rehab for pregnant women in Nebraska are on their own page.

Does Nebraska Medicaid cover addiction treatment?

Nebraska Medicaid can pay for addiction treatment, and adults with lower incomes may qualify under expansion. Expansion took effect on October 1, 2020, after voters passed Initiative 427, and covers adults through Heritage Health Adult. Members are enrolled with Nebraska Total Care, Molina Healthcare of Nebraska or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Ask your plan which levels of care it covers and whether it needs prior approval. Eligibility details are on the DHHS Medicaid and Long-Term Care pages. Medicaid is a different program from an ACA Marketplace plan, with different rules. More on Medicaid-accepting rehab is on our national page.

Nebraska Medicaid does not require in-person contact for covered services. State law sets telehealth pay at no less than the in-person rate.

The level of care matters as much as the payer. Outpatient programs, intensive outpatient and medication treatment at Suboxone clinics usually cost less than residential rehab. People live at home, so there is no charge for room, meals or round-the-clock staff.

What should I ask a program about cost before I start?

Before you start, ask a program for the full cost and what your coverage leaves you to pay. Useful questions:

  • How much of my deductible is left this year?
  • Is the program in network with my plan?
  • Are medications billed separately?
  • What proof of income does the sliding scale need, such as pay stubs or a tax return?
  • Is there a waitlist for a funded slot, and what support is offered while I wait?
  • What happens if my coverage changes partway through treatment?

Lower cost should not mean less safety

Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines after heavy use can cause withdrawal that needs medical supervision. A cheaper option still needs the right level of care, which may mean starting with medically supervised detox in Nebraska. In an emergency, call 911. For a mental health or substance use crisis, call or text 988. The national treatment referral line, 1-800-662-4357, can help with referrals at any hour.

Where are low cost programs in Nebraska located?

Low cost programs listed in Nebraska are spread across rural, urban and small-town settings: 43 percent rural, 38 percent urban and 19 percent small town. Most are around Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings, and the regions serve the sparser west.

The listings sit in river country. 88 percent are within 25 miles of a river, most often the West Fork Big Blue River. Lincoln Airport is the most common nearest airport, and the median trip to the nearest airport is 9.3 miles.

Each listing shows the payment types the program reports, such as Medicaid, Medicare, sliding scale, payment assistance, cash or self-pay, and private insurance. People on Medicare can also look at Medicare rehab in Nebraska.
