Treatment Centers in New Mexico That Accept Aetna

Aetna covers drug and alcohol rehab in New Mexico mainly through employer health plans, many of them self-funded, plus federal employee coverage and SilverScript Medicare drug plans. Aetna is not one of the four Turquoise Care Medicaid plans and sells no individual marketplace coverage in the state, so the card a member carries decides the rules.

Programs on this page come from government treatment registers and state licensing records. Each one shows the facility’s phone number, the levels of care it offers and any accreditation from The Joint Commission or CARF. Browse the listings below and filter by city or level of care to see what is listed near you.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Does Aetna Cover Rehab in New Mexico?

Yes, for members of Aetna employer and federal plans, though the terms come from the plan rather than from a New Mexico product. Aetna’s own mental health page names substance use among the conditions its benefits address, and a member in Albuquerque treatment programs uses the same national network and precertification list as a member in Hartford.

Aetna is the brand of Aetna Life Insurance Company and its affiliates, a CVS Health company. In New Mexico that means employer plans sold nationally, self-funded plans administered by Aetna or its Meritain Health subsidiary, the federal Mail Handlers Benefit Plan and SilverScript Part D. Aetna left every individual exchange for 2026 and holds no Turquoise Care contract.

Does Aetna Cover Inpatient Rehab in New Mexico?

Yes. Aetna’s behavioral health precertification list treats a stay in a substance use disorder facility or a residential treatment center as an inpatient confinement that can be covered once precertified. One 2026 Choice POS II employer document, from a New York plan, covers inpatient substance use stays at the semi-private rate, and residential rehabs taking insurance bill against that benefit.

How long will Aetna pay for residential rehab in New Mexico?

Aetna pays for as many residential days as its reviews find medically necessary under the member’s plan. Reviewers apply The ASAM Criteria for addiction services, LOCUS for adult psychiatric care and CALOCUS-CASII for young people. Long-term rehab with insurance therefore depends on continued-stay reviews, not on a fixed figure in Aetna’s general materials.

Does Aetna need prior authorization for inpatient rehab in New Mexico?

Yes. Aetna’s behavioral health list, in force since August 1, 2024, requires precertification for inpatient confinements, residential treatment and partial hospitalization. Commercial members’ providers call 1-888-632-3862, and Medicare plans use 1-800-624-0756. The list does not apply to Traditional Choice, indemnity or federal employee plans, and New Mexico law can override it where it applies.

Does Aetna Cover Detox in New Mexico?

Yes. The 2026 Choice POS II document covers ambulatory and outpatient detoxification with medication administration, and Aetna’s list treats inpatient detox inside a hospital or facility stay as an inpatient confinement needing precertification. An earlier Aetna list said outpatient detox stopped needing precertification on January 1, 2019, which matters for outpatient detox programs.

Does Aetna Cover Outpatient Rehab in New Mexico?

Yes. Aetna plans cover outpatient rehab programs, and the 2026 Choice POS II document lists office visits, therapies, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient with insurance and peer counseling by supervised peer support specialists. Aetna says members can see counselors and psychiatrists in person or virtually, with virtual access described as within three days or less.

New Mexico adds a rule of its own. Senate Bill 317 removed copays, coinsurance and deductibles for covered behavioral health services on health plans delivered, issued for delivery or renewed in New Mexico from January 1, 2022, and Senate Bill 120, signed April 8, 2025, removed the law’s sunset. Self-insured employer plans and HSA-eligible high-deductible plans are not exempted.

Does Aetna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications in New Mexico?

Yes. Aetna dropped prior authorization for buprenorphine products such as Suboxone on commercial plans from March 2017, and CVS Caremark, a sister company, manages Aetna pharmacy benefits. Formularies vary by plan, so the plan-year drug search on aetna.com shows tiers. Buprenorphine programs taking insurance prescribe under those terms.

Does Aetna cover methadone?

Yes, for Medicare members through enrolled opioid treatment programs. Medicare covers methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone with counseling, drug testing and peer support at those programs, with no copay under Original Medicare after the Part B deductible. Commercial members check their own plan for methadone medication clinics, since Aetna’s sources give no commercial methadone rule.

Does Aetna cover addiction drugs on SilverScript plans?

Yes, within each formulary. Aetna sells stand-alone SilverScript Part D plans in all 50 states, so New Mexico residents on Original Medicare can enroll, and Part D may cover some medications for opioid use disorder. Naltrexone with insurance and buprenorphine appear plan by plan in the drug search for the year.

Does New Mexico law cap what I pay for addiction medications?

On fully insured plans issued in New Mexico, yes. The state’s 2021 bulletin lists acamprosate, disulfiram, naltrexone, buprenorphine, buprenorphine with naloxone, lofexidine and naloxone among drugs covered by the behavioral health cost-sharing ban. Formulary and prior authorization rules still apply, and alcohol addiction medication on self-funded plans follows the employer’s design.

Aetna Rehab Centers in New Mexico Ski Country, Hot Springs and Lakes

Aetna’s national network does not change with scenery, so a program near a ski area, hot spring or reservoir in rehabs across New Mexico follows the same precertification list as one in a city. What changes is whether the program is in network, which decides cost on plans with out-of-network benefits.

Aetna rehab near ski resorts

Ski country in New Mexico runs through Taos and Colfax counties, with Taos Ski Valley above Taos, Angel Fire to the east and Ski Santa Fe in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Rehabs near ski resorts and Taos treatment centers follow Aetna’s usual rule: the member, not the program, arranges precertification when the program is out of network.

Aetna rehab near hot springs

Hot springs towns include Ojo Caliente in Taos County, Jemez Springs in Sandoval County and Truth or Consequences in Sierra County. Where no in-network program is close, an Aetna member can ask for an out-of-network program at the in-network benefit level, which itself needs precertification. Rehabs near hot springs are listed with distances.

Aetna rehab near lakes

Lake settings center on Elephant Butte Lake near Truth or Consequences and Navajo Lake east of Farmington in San Juan County. Aetna EPO and HMO plans cover out-of-network care only in an emergency, while Choice POS II and PPO plans pay a smaller share out of network, so rehabs near lakes cost more off network.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Aetna in New Mexico?

Browse the listings on this page. Each program shown lists Aetna among the insurance it takes, and filters sort by city, level of care and substance. Every listing has the facility’s phone number, so the first call can go to the program itself; rehabs that accept Aetna in other states have their own page.

Admission with Aetna runs through precertification for inpatient, residential and partial hospitalization care. An in-network program normally sends that request; with an out-of-network program the member must arrange it. The number on the member’s ID card reaches the right Aetna team, and the table shows which Aetna coverage lines reach New Mexico residents.

Aetna rehab in Albuquerque and Kirtland AFB

Albuquerque’s federal workforce is where Aetna administration is easiest to trace. The Mail Handlers Benefit Plan, open to federal and postal employees, runs the Aetna Choice POS II network with the same benefits and phone numbers in every state, including 1-800-410-7778 for Standard and Value members, which covers programs near Kirtland AFB.

Aetna rehab in Las Cruces and El Paso

Las Cruces lies within an hour’s drive of El Paso, and Aetna’s employer networks are national rather than state-bound, so a contracted program across the Texas line is in network on the same terms. For Las Cruces rehab programs, the deciding question is network status, because Aetna pays a smaller share out of network and out-of-network providers can balance bill.

Aetna rehab in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico

Santa Fe employers that buy a fully insured Aetna group plan issued in New Mexico fall under the state’s ban on behavioral health cost sharing for covered in-network services. Out-of-network behavioral care can still carry cost sharing unless Aetna authorized that provider or the Surprise Billing Act applies, which matters for Santa Fe treatment programs.

Farmington and San Juan County border Colorado, Arizona and Utah, and programs there may be far from the nearest in-network option. Aetna lets a member request out-of-network care at the in-network level through precertification, unless the care is an emergency. Members near Farmington rehab centers can raise that request before admission.

Can I use Aetna for rehab outside New Mexico?

Yes, on most employer plans, because Aetna’s commercial network is national and Choice POS II covers both in-network and out-of-network care. EPO and HMO designs cover out-of-network care only in emergencies or urgent situations. Out-of-state residential stays still need precertification, and some Choice POS II plans charge a penalty when out-of-network inpatient care skips it.

How much does rehab cost with Aetna?

Costs depend on the plan’s deductible, coinsurance and network tier. On fully insured plans issued in New Mexico, covered behavioral health services carry no copay, coinsurance or deductible. Self-funded employer plans, HSA-eligible high-deductible plans and out-of-network care can still carry cost sharing, so the plan’s summary of benefits gives the real figures.

Aetna coverage is one route among several in New Mexico. Medicare members can also look at rehabs that accept Medicare, and people without an Aetna plan may qualify for Turquoise Care or state-funded treatment. The listings below show which payment options each program accepts.
