DUI and DWI Programs in New Mexico

New Mexico handles DWI cases with two separate requirements. The first is a DWI school, which is an education course. The second is an alcohol screening program that looks at alcohol and drug use. The Traffic Safety Division of the New Mexico Department of Transportation certifies both. Clinical treatment is a different step, used when a screening result, a judge or a treatment court calls for it.

The listings on this page draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details providers report about themselves. You can use them to compare outpatient, intensive outpatient and residential options against a court order, a work schedule and a way to pay.

Common questions about DUI and DWI Programs

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are DUI programs in New Mexico?

Listings for DUI and DWI programs in New Mexico cluster in Albuquerque, then Farmington, Skyline-Ganipa, Deming and Silver City, in that order. Drivers in and around Albuquerque will find the widest range, while the other towns serve people living farther away.

Grants is another nearby city worth checking. Program choice often depends on which court is handling a case, so drivers can confirm that a listed program meets that court's requirements.

Rehab Centers in Albuquerquehttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/new-mexico/albuquerque/
Does Turquoise Care cover DUI treatment in New Mexico?

Turquoise Care, the state's Medicaid program, is recorded as accepted by nearly all of the DUI and DWI programs in New Mexico. Coverage runs through the member's enrolled plan, such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, Molina Healthcare of New Mexico, Presbyterian Health Plan or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of New Mexico.

Rehab Centers in New Mexico That Accept Turquoise Carehttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/new-mexico/turquoise-care/
Are there DUI programs near the mountains in New Mexico?

Within 25 miles of a mountain sit most of the DUI and DWI programs in New Mexico, at a median of about 9.2 miles from listed facilities. The most-named nearby features among those listings are The Volcanoes, the San Mateo Mountains and the Little Florida Mountains.

Rehab Centers Near Mountainshttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/mountains/

What DWI program does New Mexico require, and who certifies it?

New Mexico requires a DWI school and an alcohol screening program, and the Traffic Safety Division of the state Department of Transportation certifies both. The state rule that sets this out is section 18.19.5 of the New Mexico Administrative Code, which still uses the old name of the highway and transportation department.

Required hours and session counts depend on your case, so ask the court or the Traffic Safety Division for the figure that applies to you. The screening looks at past drinking and drug use to judge whether the school by itself will do or treatment is also advised. Ask for a written copy of the result.

Substance use disorder treatment in New Mexico falls under a different system. The Behavioral Health Services Division of the New Mexico Health Care Authority authorizes specialized behavioral health programs, and its service standards cover intensive outpatient programs, accredited adult residential treatment centers and opioid treatment programs.

The Authority’s Division of Health Improvement licenses health facilities, and the Licensing and Certification Authority of the Children, Youth and Families Department licenses programs for children. Keep every certificate you receive, since a limited driver’s license after a revocation or a second or third DWI conviction requires finishing both a certified school and a certified screening program.

DWI treatment courts

Some New Mexico counties run DWI treatment courts in place of a standard sentence alone. A treatment court can operate only by order of the New Mexico Supreme Court, under statewide standards adopted in April 2026. The Administrative Office of the Courts Therapeutic Justice Support Program supports these courts. A treatment court can order treatment, and our court-ordered rehab listings in New Mexico show providers that report taking court referrals.

How does an alcohol screening decide what you need in New Mexico?

The alcohol screening looks at your history of alcohol and drug use and shows whether the DWI school alone is likely to be enough or whether treatment is advised. Ask the screening provider for a written copy of the result. Treatment programs and the court will usually want to see it. A recommendation can range from weekly counseling to a full residential stay.

Listed providers report several levels of care for people referred after a DWI. Outpatient programs fit around work. Intensive outpatient programs meet several days a week. Residential programs provide around-the-clock structure. Many clinics also list alcohol use disorder treatment, and some offer medication for alcohol or opioid use disorder.

Can you complete a DWI program online in New Mexico?

An online DWI school or screening counts only if your court and the Traffic Safety Division accept it, so get confirmation before you pay for a virtual course. Treatment is handled differently. Under Turquoise Care, video telemedicine has no service restrictions. Audio-only behavioral health visits are also covered when you are at home and video is not possible or you do not consent to it. You can find providers offering remote sessions through our telehealth rehab listings in New Mexico.

Distance is a real factor for in-person care in New Mexico. Half of the DWI-related programs listed here are in rural areas. The nearest airport is a median of 14.6 miles away, and Albuquerque International Sunport is the closest one for many listings. Most programs sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the Jemez River. Their median elevation is 5,210 feet, so expect high-desert winter driving on the way to appointments.

How do you pay for a DWI program or court-ordered treatment in New Mexico?

The provider sets the fees for DWI school and alcohol screening, so ask for the total cost before you enroll. Treatment that a screening or court recommends is paid for differently. Options include private insurance or Turquoise Care, which is New Mexico Medicaid. Turquoise Care is run through four plans: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, Molina Healthcare of New Mexico, Presbyterian Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of New Mexico.

Listings show which providers accept Medicaid, which offer a sliding fee scale, and which take part in state-funded treatment. For Spanish-language counseling or an interpreter, start with our Spanish-speaking rehab listings. Then ask the program which other languages its staff speak.

What happens after you finish, and how do you get your license back?

Completing the program creates a record the court and licensing officials will want to see, so keep every certificate you receive. Under state rule, a person seeking a limited driver’s license after an implied consent revocation, or after a second or third DWI conviction, must first finish both a certified DWI school and a certified screening program. Ask the court whether other conditions also apply, such as an ignition interlock device.

Have your paperwork ready when you contact a provider. That includes your court order, case number, screening results and your deadline. Ask how the program will report your completion to the court or your probation officer, and how long that report takes. Completing a program does not guarantee any outcome in a criminal case. For legal questions, talk to an attorney.

Help is available now if you need it. The New Mexico Crisis and Access Line is open 24 hours a day at 1-855-662-7474. Its Peer-to-Peer Warmline, at 1-855-466-7100, takes calls from 3:00 to 11:30 p.m. You can also call or text 988, or contact the national treatment referral line.
