Treatment Centers in South Dakota That Accept Cigna

Cigna covers drug and alcohol rehab in South Dakota through employer health plans, with behavioral care run by its sister company Evernorth Behavioral Health. Cigna sells no individual marketplace plan, Medicaid plan or Medicare Advantage plan in the state, so a Cigna card here almost always comes from work.

The listings on this page show each program’s phone number, levels of care and accreditation from The Joint Commission or CARF where it applies, drawn from government treatment registers and state licensing records. Does Cigna Cover Rehab in South Dakota?

Yes. Cigna’s employer plans list inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment with follow-up case management, and Cigna describes every level from ambulatory detox to residential care of 28 days or more. A South Dakota employee’s share of the cost follows the plan design, and there is no separate deductible for behavioral care at rehabs that accept Cigna.

Evernorth Behavioral Health, Inc., called Cigna Behavioral Health until September 2021, administers the behavioral benefit and credentials treatment programs separately from Cigna’s medical network. In South Dakota, Cigna also appears on cards carrying the Midlands Choice logo, a regional network that covers the whole state, and on plans administered by Allegiance, a Cigna-owned administrator.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Rehab in South Dakota?

Yes, after authorization. Evernorth’s authorization grid requires approval in advance for substance use inpatient rehab, inpatient detox, dual diagnosis inpatient care and residential treatment, and a facility starts the request after a face-to-face assessment. Inpatient rehab programs and residential rehab with insurance in South Dakota follow that grid.

How long will Cigna pay for residential rehab in South Dakota?

For as long as Evernorth’s reviews find it medically necessary. Evernorth reviews substance use levels of care against the ASAM Criteria, and Cigna’s own treatment guide describes inpatient residential care as lasting 28 days or more. A South Dakota stay is authorized in steps, with the facility sending clinical updates to Evernorth.

How does Cigna prior authorization work for rehab in South Dakota?

The facility calls. Cigna’s guide says staff complete a face-to-face assessment and then contact the plan with clinical information, using the number on the back of the ID card. Cigna’s public disclosure states that routine outpatient behavioral services are not subject to prior authorization, while inpatient and non-routine outpatient services are.

Does Cigna Cover Detox in South Dakota?

Yes, in two forms. Cigna describes ambulatory detox and inpatient detox with 24-hour medical care, and Evernorth’s grid lists ambulatory detox as needing no authorization while inpatient detox does. A South Dakotan can start at outpatient detox programs without waiting, or ask a facility to request an inpatient stay.

Does Cigna Cover Outpatient Rehab in South Dakota?

Yes. Cigna describes intensive outpatient programs as three to five days a week for three to four hours a day, and partial hospitalization as five to seven days a week for six to eight hours. Whether intensive outpatient programs or partial hospitalization programs need approval depends on the plan, so Evernorth asks providers to phone about each case.

Routine therapy needs no authorization at all: outpatient, family and group psychotherapy, diagnostic evaluations and medication management are all on Evernorth’s no-authorization list. Cigna also pays covered virtual visits at the same rate as in-person care, which helps in Harding or Ziebach counties, where telehealth rehab programs may be the nearest option.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications in South Dakota?

Yes. Cigna ended prior authorization for buprenorphine medications for opioid use disorder in October 2016, and Evernorth’s grid lists buprenorphine induction and methadone treatment as needing no authorization. Prescriptions run through Express Scripts, Cigna’s sister pharmacy benefit manager, with home delivery available at 1 (800) 835-3784.

Does Cigna cover Suboxone for South Dakota members?

Yes. On Cigna’s Standard 3-Tier drug list, updated in September 2026 for 2027 coverage, generic buprenorphine-naloxone is Tier 1, Zubsolv is Tier 2 and brand Suboxone is Tier 3, with no prior authorization flag on any of them. Suboxone treatment programs in Sioux Falls and Rapid City appear below.

Does Cigna cover methadone in South Dakota?

Yes. Methadone treatment appears on Evernorth’s grid as a covered outpatient service that needs no authorization, with the member’s cost share following the employer plan. Methadone treatment clinics bill it as a provider-administered service rather than a pharmacy fill, so the behavioral benefit applies.

Does Cigna cover alcohol use disorder medications in South Dakota?

Yes. Acamprosate is Tier 1 on Cigna’s Standard 3-Tier list, and Lucemyra, used for opioid withdrawal, is Tier 2 with a quantity limit. Cigna made no 2026 drug list changes for Vivitrol or naltrexone. Campral covered by insurance and naltrexone with insurance are listed.

Cigna Rehab Centers Near the Black Elk Wilderness, Terry Peak and Lake Oahe

Cigna’s South Dakota coverage follows the employer plan rather than the landscape, so the same Evernorth rules apply in the Black Hills and on the Missouri River reservoirs. What changes is distance: members far from Sioux Falls or Rapid City lean on virtual care, which Cigna pays at the in-person rate.

Cigna rehab near the Black Elk Wilderness

The Black Elk Wilderness surrounds Black Elk Peak in Custer and Pennington counties, inside the Black Hills National Forest south of Rapid City. Rehabs near wilderness areas there take Cigna through Evernorth or, on Midlands Choice cards, through that statewide network.

Cigna rehab near Terry Peak and the northern Hills

Terry Peak rises above Lead and Deadwood in Lawrence County, with Spearfish below it. Rehabs near ski resorts in the northern Hills follow Cigna’s outpatient rules, where routine therapy needs no authorization and residential care needs Evernorth approval in advance.

Cigna rehab near Lake Oahe

Lake Oahe stretches north from Pierre past Gettysburg to Mobridge on the Missouri River, through Hughes, Sully, Potter and Walworth counties. Rehabs near lakes along the reservoir are spread out, so many Cigna members there combine a local counselor with video visits.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Cigna in South Dakota?

Browse the listings on this page. Each one gives the program’s phone number and levels of care, so a member can ask the program directly whether it is in network with Evernorth Behavioral Health. Filters narrow listings by city and service, and a separate page lists rehabs taking Evernorth nationally.

For residential, inpatient or inpatient detox care, the South Dakota program completes an assessment and calls the number on the member’s Cigna card for authorization. Members with benefit questions can call Cigna’s behavioral health line at 1 (800) 433-5768, open 24 hours, or Cigna customer service at 1 (800) 997-1654.

Cigna rehab in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls employers that offer Cigna can choose designs such as Open Access Plus and PPO, both built on Cigna’s national network with out-of-network coverage. Some cards add the Midlands Choice logo, which covers the city and the rest of the state. Treatment centers in Sioux Falls and downtown Sioux Falls programs are listed.

Cigna rehab in Rapid City

Rapid City members reach Cigna’s Evernorth network for behavioral care, with prior authorization for residential stays and none for routine counseling. Open Access Plus plans also pay out-of-network programs at a lower level, which matters in the Black Hills. Rapid City rehab programs and Box Elder treatment options are listed.

Cigna rehab in Aberdeen

Aberdeen, the Brown County seat in the northeast, is inside Midlands Choice’s statewide core area, so programs there may bill Cigna through that network when the card shows its logo. Cigna’s employee assistance program, where an employer buys it, can add short-term counseling. Aberdeen rehab options appear below.

Cigna rehab in Brookings, Watertown and Madison

Brookings and Watertown host plans administered by Allegiance Benefit Plan Management, a Cigna subsidiary that runs self-funded employer plans nationwide, alongside standard Cigna coverage. Benefits on those plans are set by each employer. Watertown rehab programs and treatment in Madison are listed.

Cigna rehab in Mitchell and Huron

Small employers in Mitchell and Huron sometimes buy Trustmark level-funded plans, which can use the Cigna PPO network in South Dakota, as well as Cigna’s own plans. Evernorth’s authorization rules apply on Cigna-administered coverage. Mitchell treatment programs and Huron rehab options are listed below.

Can I use Cigna for rehab outside South Dakota?

Yes, on most employer designs. Open Access Plus and PPO plans use Cigna’s national network and include out-of-network coverage, so a South Dakotan can attend a program in Minnesota or Colorado. SureFit plans have no out-of-network benefit, and authorization rules travel with the member wherever the program is.

How much does rehab cost with Cigna in South Dakota?

Cigna rehab costs depend on the employer plan. Across Cigna plan documents, therapy visits usually carry a flat copay outside the deductible, while inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care fall under coinsurance after the deductible. Behavioral care shares the medical deductible, with no separate one.

Cigna is one of several ways treatment is paid for in South Dakota. Listings also show rehab centers in South Dakota that accept Medicaid plans or offer sliding scale rates, which can help between jobs or when an employer plan leaves a program out of network.
