Common questions about Residential Rehab, Houston

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Houston areas have residential rehabs?

Houston is the main cluster for residential rehab listings in the area, with further listings gathered in Aldine, Meadows Place, Missouri City and Southside Place. Searching beyond city limits can widen the range of programs to compare.

Neighborhood listings inside the city are grouped too, so families can look at areas such as the Museum District. When comparing locations, ask each admissions team about visiting hours, parking and how residents get to outside appointments.

Rehab Centers in Museum District, Houstonhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/texas/houston-tx/museum-district/
Do residential rehabs in Houston take Texas Medicaid?

Checking which STAR plan is on the member's card is a useful first move, because Texas Medicaid coverage for residential rehab runs through that plan. In the Harris service area the options include Community Health Choice, Molina, Texas Children's, United and Wellpoint. About half of the residential rehabs in Houston record accepting Texas Medicaid.

Treatment Centers in Houston That Accept Texas Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/texas/houston-tx/texas-medicaid-houston/
Are there residential rehabs near a river in Houston?

A river lies within 25 miles of most of the residential rehabs in Houston, and the nearest one sits a median of about 18.4 miles from listed facilities. The East Fork San Jacinto River and the San Jacinto River are the most-named waterways near these programs.

Being near a river says nothing about the care offered, so ask intake staff whether outdoor time is part of the daily schedule and what the grounds are like.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

What is residential treatment, and how do Houston residents get a referral?

Residential treatment is live-in care where a person stays at the program around the clock and follows a structured daily schedule, and uninsured Houston residents can seek a referral through the regional public screening line. The ASAM Criteria, the clinical guidelines from the American Society of Addiction Medicine, place residential care at Level 3.

Sub-levels within Level 3 run from clinically managed settings to medically monitored ones. The level describes how intensive the care is. It is not a certification. Some Houston programs call the same service inpatient, so compare daily schedules rather than labels. More background is on the residential treatment overview.

Uninsured Harris County residents can ask about state-funded residential care through the Outreach, Screening, Assessment and Referral line. In Region 6, the county’s local mental health authority runs it at 713-970-4400, option 6. That agency’s website also lists a 24/7 Crisis and Access Line, 713-970-7000.

Other public routes are collected under state-funded rehab in Houston. People with Texas Medicaid or private coverage should check with their plan whether prior authorization is required for a residential stay, and ask whether the program handles withdrawal on site or expects detox to be finished first.

How are Houston residential programs licensed and paid for?

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission licenses residential substance use programs as Chemical Dependency Treatment Facilities under Health and Safety Code Chapter 464. Before admission, ask the admissions team for the license number. You can then confirm it with the commission’s Regulatory Services Division.

Texas Medicaid pays for care mainly through managed care plans. In the Harris service area, the STAR plans include Community Health Choice, Molina, Texas Children’s, United and Wellpoint, and this line-up can change. Ask your plan whether a residential stay needs prior authorization and how many days it approves at a time. Each listing shows the payment types and insurers that program accepts. Plan details are on the Medicaid coverage page.

What should I ask before a Houston stay, and what comes after?

Some listings show on-site withdrawal management, while others expect people to finish detox in Houston before they arrive. Withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines can be medically dangerous, so get a medical assessment first. Call 911 in an emergency, or 988 in a mental health or substance use crisis.

Useful questions for intake staff:

  • Who is on staff overnight?
  • Are medications for opioid use disorder continued or started on site?
  • What are the phone and visiting rules?
  • Who does the program serve, by gender, age and language?

Programs list lengths of stay as part of how they are designed, ranging from about 30 days to longer stays. These lengths are not predictions of results.

Families visiting from out of town may find the location details useful. Two in three residential listings sit within 25 miles of the Gulf coast, a median of 21 miles away. The same share sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the East Fork San Jacinto River. William P. Hobby Airport is the nearest major airport more often than George Bush Intercontinental, at a median of 11.7 miles. METRO runs buses and three METRORail lines, but many sites can only be reached by bus, so check the route to each program.

After residential care, people often step down to a partial hospitalization program, then intensive outpatient care in Houston or recovery housing. For residential options across Texas, see residential rehab in Texas, or go back to the Houston treatment guide.
