Treatment Centers in Washington That Accept Apple Health

Apple Health is the name Washington gives its Medicaid program, and drug and alcohol rehab under it is paid by whichever of five managed care plans a member has joined, with one plan handling physical health, mental health and substance use treatment together. Detox, residential care, intensive outpatient and opioid treatment are covered, and state law limits prior authorization for detox and residential stays.

Facility details below are drawn from government treatment registers and Washington State Department of Health licensing records, and Joint Commission or CARF accreditation is shown when a program holds it. Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver sit beside smaller towns from the Olympic Peninsula to the Palouse, and a city or level-of-care filter shortens the list.

Does Apple Health Cover Rehab in Washington?

Yes. Apple Health covers drug and alcohol rehab in all 39 Washington counties: assessment, withdrawal management, outpatient and intensive outpatient counseling, residential treatment, opiate substitution treatment, case management and peer support. Care comes from Washington drug and alcohol rehabs licensed as behavioral health agencies by the Washington State Department of Health, the licensing agency since July 1, 2018.

Apple Health is the federal Medicaid program as the Washington State Health Care Authority runs it, and most members receive it through integrated managed care, where one plan covers physical health, mental health and substance use treatment. Five plans deliver it: Community Health Plan of Washington, Coordinated Care, Molina Healthcare of Washington, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and Wellpoint Washington.

Which Apple Health plan pays for rehab?

The member’s own managed care plan pays, because Washington has no separate statewide behavioral health vendor. Four plans operate in all 39 counties, while UnitedHealthcare Community Plan coverage reaches five regions plus Pierce County. People whose physical health care sits outside managed care, such as members with Medicare, get rehab through a Behavioral Health Services Only plan instead.

Does Apple Health Cover Inpatient Rehab in Washington?

Yes. Apple Health covers residential treatment programs from ASAM level 3.1 through 3.7, and fee-for-service also pays for recovery house stays. Washington’s Section 1115 demonstration, first authorized on January 9, 2017, added a substance use amendment in July 2018, renewed to June 30, 2028, so residential rehabs that accept Medicaid over 16 beds can bill Apple Health.

How long will Apple Health pay for residential rehab?

Apple Health residential stays last as long as medical necessity reviews support them, and plans may not weigh length of stay when deciding on continued care. Since January 1, 2025 a plan’s first authorization must cover at least 14 days from admission and each reauthorization at least 7 days, and no decision may rest mainly on length of abstinence.

Does Apple Health need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

No, not for admission. Under RCW 71.24.618, since January 1, 2021 Apple Health plans may not require prior authorization for residential treatment at a licensed behavioral health agency. The plan must pay for at least two business days before any utilization review, the facility notifies the plan within 24 hours, and reviews use the state’s ASAM-based criteria.

Does Apple Health Cover Detox in Washington?

Yes. Apple Health covers withdrawal management at ASAM levels 3.2-WM, 3.7-WM and 4.0-WM. The 2021 law bars prior authorization for it and requires at least three covered days before review, and fee-for-service needs none either, except expedited approval for secure withdrawal management, so medical detox taking Medicaid can admit first and notify the plan afterwards.

Does Apple Health Cover Outpatient Rehab in Washington?

Yes. Apple Health covers outpatient rehab programs at ASAM Level 1 and intensive outpatient treatment at Level 2.1, which the Health Care Authority describes as 9 to 12 hours a week for up to 90 days. Client booklets set no annual visit cap, and nobody needs an outpatient assessment before crisis, stabilization or inpatient care.

Apple Health plans cover intensive outpatient programs with Medicaid along with family therapy and peer support, and Washington lets young people aged 13 to 18 start outpatient treatment without a parent’s consent. The fee-for-service guide bills family therapy with or without the client present.

Does Apple Health Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Opiate substitution and medication-assisted treatment are listed Apple Health benefits in managed care, Behavioral Health Services Only plans and fee-for-service, and two plans’ 2026 handbooks add medications for alcohol use disorder. Every plan has used the single Apple Health Preferred Drug List since January 1, 2020, so medication-assisted treatment follows one statewide list.

Does Apple Health cover methadone?

Yes. Apple Health covers methadone clinic treatment only through opioid treatment programs, never a regular pharmacy, and the program bills daily dosing for each day a person is in treatment. The same daily code covers buprenorphine dispensed at the clinic, and the Health Care Authority’s opioid pill-count limits do not apply to either medication when prescribed for opioid use disorder.

Does Apple Health cover Suboxone?

Yes. Under Coordinated Care’s policy WA.PHAR.62, preferred Suboxone and buprenorphine with Medicaid, including generic tablets and film, Suboxone film and Zubsolv, need no authorization up to 32 mg/8 mg a day. Buprenorphine on its own needs prior authorization unless the person is pregnant or cannot tolerate naloxone, a rule Molina’s 2020 Washington guide also stated.

Apple Health Rehab Centers on the Pacific Coast, in the Cascades and in the Columbia Basin Desert

Apple Health covers the same benefits on the Long Beach Peninsula as in the Tri-Cities, because the benefit package is set statewide. What changes between the coast, the Cascades and the dry Columbia Basin is the regional crisis line, the Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization that runs it, and whether UnitedHealthcare is one of the plans on offer.

Apple Health rehab near Pacific Coast beaches

Pacific Coast treatment under Apple Health sits in the Great Rivers region, which covers Grays Harbor, Pacific, Cowlitz, Lewis and Wahkiakum counties. Members in Ocean Shores, Westport and Long Beach can choose any of the five plans, UnitedHealthcare included, and the regional crisis line is 1-800-803-8833. Programs around Aberdeen and other rehabs near beaches fall in this region.

Apple Health rehab in the Cascade Mountains

Cascade mountain towns fall into three Apple Health regions. Ashford and Eatonville below Mount Rainier are in Pierce County, where the crisis line is 1-800-576-7764. Glacier, near Mount Baker, is in the North Sound region at 1-800-584-3578, and Leavenworth is in North Central at 1-800-852-2923. Treatment near mountains carries the same statewide benefit in all three.

Apple Health rehab in the Columbia Basin desert

Desert country east of the Cascades splits between two Apple Health regions. Kennewick, Pasco and Richland in Benton and Franklin counties use the Greater Columbia line, 1-888-544-9986, and Moses Lake in Grant County uses North Central’s. Neither region lists UnitedHealthcare, so members seeking rehab in desert regions or Kennewick treatment centers choose among the other four plans.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Apple Health Near Me?

Browse the listings on this page. Each one takes Apple Health, and they can be sorted by town, by level of care such as detox or residential, or by the substance treated. Dialing the number on a listing reaches that program itself, and a national page gathers rehab centers accepting Medicaid beyond Washington.

Getting admitted is the plan’s business, yet the facility takes the first step: for detox and residential care it admits the person and tells the plan within 24 hours. Apple Health rehab in Seattle and King County

King County is an Apple Health region of its own, and all five plans are offered there, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan included, at 1-877-542-8997. The King County Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization takes crisis calls at 1-866-427-4747 from anyone, insured or not. Members using treatment centers in Seattle or Bellevue rehab programs stay inside their plan’s network.

Apple Health rehab in Tacoma and Pierce County

Pierce County is one of three Apple Health regions where Carelon Behavioral Health runs crisis services, at 1-800-576-7764. The Health Care Authority’s January 2026 map text lists four plans for Pierce while its county matrix adds UnitedHealthcare, so members comparing Tacoma drug and alcohol rehabs should look at both lists before choosing a plan.

Apple Health rehab in Spokane

Spokane County anchors a six-county Apple Health region that runs north to the Canadian border through Stevens, Ferry and Pend Oreille counties. UnitedHealthcare does not serve it, so members choose among Community Health Plan of Washington, Coordinated Care, Molina and Wellpoint for Spokane treatment programs and rehabs in Spokane Valley. Crisis calls go to 1-877-266-1818.

Apple Health rehab in Vancouver and Clark County

Clark and Skamania counties moved Apple Health into integrated managed care in April 2016, when Community Health Plan of Washington and Molina Healthcare members made up the two plans. Molina had taken over Columbia United Providers’ Medicaid members under a 2015 agreement. Carelon answers Southwest crisis calls at 1-800-626-8137, and Vancouver rehab centers sit in the Southwest region.

Apple Health rehab in Everett and Snohomish County

Snohomish County belongs to the North Sound region with Island, San Juan, Skagit and Whatcom counties, and all five Apple Health plans operate there. The North Sound Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization takes crisis calls at 1-800-584-3578, and members using rehab programs in Everett or Lynnwood treatment options stay within their chosen plan’s network.

Can I use Apple Health for rehab in a different county?

Yes. Any county works if the program belongs to the plan’s network, and four of the five plans operate in all 39 counties. A plan change made through Washington Healthplanfinder, 1-855-923-4633, usually takes effect on the first of the following month. Care outside the network needs the plan’s agreement first, while crisis services and emergency care never need authorization.

How much does rehab cost with Apple Health?

Nothing, for most members. The Health Care Authority says most Apple Health programs carry no out-of-pocket costs, Coordinated Care charges no co-pays, and members may qualify for free rides to appointments by transit or volunteer driver. Children on Apple Health for Kids funded by CHIP, up to 317 percent of the federal poverty level, can owe premiums.

From January 1, 2027, Apple Health for Adults members aged 19 to 64 face work requirements and six-month renewals, with people in substance use disorder treatment exempt. Low-income residents who do not qualify for Apple Health are served by the regional Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organizations rather than a health plan, and state-funded rehab programs are one route for them.
