Treatment Centers in Washington That Accept Regence BlueShield

Regence BlueShield covers drug and alcohol rehab in Washington across inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient care, under employer plans, individual exchange plans and the Uniform Medical Plan it administers for public employees. Residential and intensive levels need pre-authorization, and eastern Washington members carry the sister brand, Asuris Northwest Health, instead.

The facility records here come from government treatment registers and the licensing files of the Washington State Department of Health, with Joint Commission or CARF accreditation shown where a program holds it. Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia and the Tri-Cities sit beside smaller towns in the Skagit and Yakima valleys, and filters split the results by level of care.

Does Regence BlueShield Cover Rehab in Washington?

Yes. Regence BlueShield plans in Washington cover inpatient, residential and outpatient substance use disorder treatment when medically necessary, and a Washington group booklet adds medically necessary detox for emergency stabilization. Cost share and network rules depend on the plan, and Regence BlueShield coverage reaches select Washington counties rather than the whole state.

Regence BlueShield is a not-for-profit Blue Shield licensee founded in 1917 and based in Seattle, owned by Cambia Health Solutions of Portland, Oregon, called The Regence Group until November 2013. In eastern Washington the same company sells as Asuris Northwest Health. Regence runs no Apple Health plan, and it manages behavioral health in-house.

Which Regence plans do Washington members have?

Washington members hold employer plans, individual exchange plans or the Uniform Medical Plan, the self-insured plan for state and school employees that the Washington State Health Care Authority runs and Regence administers. The state Insurance Commissioner’s 2026 list shows Regence individual plans in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston, Kitsap, Skagit and Yakima counties, among others.

Does Regence BlueShield Cover Inpatient Rehab in Washington?

Yes. Regence’s Uniform Medical Plan list names ASAM 4.0 and hospital-based 3.7 inpatient care and ASAM 3.7 and 3.5 residential care, and the King County Law Library group booklet covers residential treatment too. That booklet excludes halfway houses, group homes and wilderness programs, so residential rehab taking insurance must be a clinical program.

How long will Regence pay for residential rehab?

Regence pays for residential care as long as reviews support it, with ASAM criteria setting the level and concurrent review deciding on added days. From March 1, 2026 the Uniform Medical Plan list asks programs to send clinical records within 24 hours of a behavioral health admission so medical necessity review can begin promptly.

Does Regence need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes, though the timing differs by level. On Regence’s Uniform Medical Plan list, residential care needs pre-authorization requested within 3 business days of admission, while ASAM 4.0 and hospital-based 3.7 admissions need notification as soon as possible afterwards. Regence’s behavioral health pre-authorization line is 1 (800) 780-7881, and urgent decisions take one to two calendar days.

Does Regence BlueShield Cover Detox in Washington?

Yes. The King County Law Library booklet covers medically necessary detoxification for emergency stabilization, plus acupuncture for withdrawal, and the 2026 Uniform Medical Plan summary says the provider must notify the plan when detox begins. Hospital-level withdrawal care falls under the inpatient notification rule, so insurance-covered medical detox can admit first.

Does Regence BlueShield Cover Outpatient Rehab in Washington?

Yes. Regence covers outpatient counseling with no referral, and its Uniform Medical Plan list names partial hospitalization taking insurance at ASAM 2.5 and intensive outpatient with insurance at ASAM 2.1. Both intensive levels need pre-authorization requested within 7 calendar days of the start date, and standard reviews take three to five calendar days.

Regence lists Eleanor Health, offering substance use and medication-assisted treatment in Washington and Idaho only, as an in-network provider alongside Boulder Care and Hazelden Betty Ford. Charlie Health runs a virtual intensive outpatient program, and Regence names Talkspace and other virtual rehab and telehealth groups as in-network providers rather than a carve-out manager.

Does Regence BlueShield Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Regence covers medication-assisted treatment through in-network providers such as Eleanor Health, which offers it in Washington and Idaho, and Boulder Care, which works by video. For Uniform Medical Plan members, ArrayRx handles the pharmacy side while Regence handles medical claims, and other Regence plans use the Prime Therapeutics formulary.

Does Regence cover methadone?

Yes. The King County Law Library group booklet lists medications such as methadone dispensed through a treatment facility among covered substance use services, so methadone clinic treatment is paid under the treatment benefit rather than at a retail pharmacy. The member’s usual coinsurance applies, 15 percent in network on that plan.

Does Regence cover Suboxone?

Yes, as medication-assisted treatment, with Boulder Care treating opioid and alcohol use disorders by video for adults and Eleanor Health providing medication-assisted treatment in Washington. The formulary tier for buprenorphine sits on Regence’s Prime Therapeutics drug list, so Suboxone programs that take insurance check the member’s plan.

Regence BlueShield Rehab Centers Along Washington Rivers and Near Wilderness Areas

Regence BlueShield’s rules for rehab are the same in every Washington county it serves, but the brand on the card changes at the Cascades. West of the crest and in parts of central Washington, members carry Regence BlueShield; east of it, Cambia sells as Asuris Northwest Health, which negotiates provider contracts together with Regence.

Regence rehab along the Skagit and Yakima rivers

The Skagit River runs through Skagit County, whose medical bureau merged into Regence in 1998, and the Yakima River runs through Yakima County. Both counties appear on the Insurance Commissioner’s 2026 list of Regence individual plans. Mount Vernon, home to treatment programs in Mount Vernon, sits on the Skagit among Skagit County’s rehabs near rivers.

Regence rehab near Cascade wilderness

The Alpine Lakes Wilderness straddles King, Chelan and Kittitas counties, which puts it across the line between Regence BlueShield in King County and Asuris Northwest Health, which sells individual plans in Chelan and Kittitas. Chelan County, with its programs around Wenatchee and rehabs near wilderness areas, is Asuris territory.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Regence BlueShield in Washington?

Browse the listings on this page. Each program here takes Regence BlueShield, and the filters narrow them to a city, a level of care or the substance being treated. A listing’s phone number goes to the program itself, and other Blue plans’ rehab coverage is gathered on a national page.

Pre-authorization is the step to plan for: contracted Washington providers must request it for residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care, and the request goes through Availity within the deadlines on Regence’s list. Members can call the number on their card; individual plan holders call 1-855-857-9959 and Asuris members 888-427-0470.

Regence rehab in Seattle and King County

Seattle is Regence BlueShield’s headquarters, and King County employers use it, as the King County Law Library’s Preferred group booklet shows: 15 percent coinsurance for substance use treatment in network and 40 percent outside it. Members using Seattle rehab programs or First Hill treatment follow the same booklet’s ASAM medical necessity rules.

Regence rehab in Tacoma and Pierce County

Tacoma is where Regence’s story starts: Cambia traces its roots to the Pierce County Medical Bureau, formed by timber workers in 1917. The City of Tacoma still offers a Regence HSA 2.0 plan on the Preferred network, with 20 percent coinsurance in network and 50 percent with non-participating providers, for Tacoma treatment centers and programs in Lakewood.

Regence rehab in Olympia and Thurston County

Olympia members can hold Regence three ways: through an employer, through an individual plan sold in Thurston County, or through the Uniform Medical Plan for public and school employees, reached at 1-888-849-3681. Its 2026 Classic Medicare version charges 15 percent coinsurance for outpatient substance use care in network, and UMP members using Olympia rehab centers follow its pre-authorization list.

Regence rehab in the Tri-Cities

The Tri-Cities sit in Asuris Northwest Health territory, with Benton and Franklin counties on the Asuris individual plan list rather than Regence’s. Provider contracts for the two brands are negotiated together, and Asuris is the Cambia plan sold to individuals for Kennewick rehab programs and treatment in Richland.

Regence rehab in Bellingham and Whatcom County

Whatcom County joined Regence in 1998, when the Skagit and Whatcom county medical bureaus merged into the company, and a Northwest Washington medical bureau followed in 2001. Regence’s pre-authorization rules apply there just as in Seattle, including for members using Bellingham addiction treatment.

Can I use Regence for rehab in a different state?

Yes. Regence members can get care outside the Regence states, and in more than 200 countries, through the BlueCard program, and a Regence MedAdvantage group retiree plan covers members living in any state. Regence PPO plans pay out-of-network behavioral health at a higher share, such as 40 or 50 percent, and those providers may balance bill.

How much does rehab cost with Regence?

Costs follow the plan’s deductible and coinsurance: 20 percent in network on the City of Tacoma HSA plan and 15 percent on the King County Law Library plan. The Regence MedAdvantage plan for City of Vancouver retirees charges nothing for outpatient substance use services in or out of network.

Regence is one of two unrelated Blue companies in Washington, alongside Premera Blue Cross plans, and Clark County’s self-funded employee plan is administered by Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon. Regence’s Medicare members call 1-800-541-8981, and anyone in crisis can call or text 988 at any hour.
