How to respond to an opioid overdose

  1. Call 911

Say someone is not breathing or won't wake up. Wyoming's Good Samaritan law (W.S. 35-7-1064) protects a person who in good faith seeks medical help for a drug overdose, and the person overdosing, from prosecution for drug possession and use, if they give the location, stay until responders arrive and cooperate.

  2. Give naloxone

Spray one dose into one nostril. Follow the instructions on the box.

  3. Support breathing

Give rescue breaths if trained, or roll the person onto their side.

  4. Stay until help arrives

If there is no response after 2 to 3 minutes, give a second dose as the box directs.
