Tried calling to speak with my cousin and the phone was answered by a patient! Told me the staff was super busy and they would call back. What a shit show! Going tomorrow to pull my cousin out of this hell hole. Do not… send your family there.
The staff is horrible and negligent to their patients, I’d regularly see a girl in my unit scratching to the point where she would bleed and the techs wouldn’t do a thing about it. I was in the adolescent unit so you’d… assume we would not be treated like prisoners. I was in for a overdose and instead of individual therapy sessions and stuff that actually help the doctors put u on multiple different medicines that make you a drugged out robot. Plus multiple adolescents are held against their will because of small reasons like arguments with their parents and then they get sent here and are treated like sub humans. The communication between the social workers and doctors are little to none, both were clueless of my discharge date 10 days after being admitted (was told 7-10 days) until my parents demanded me out on my 12th day. food is inedible and found bugs on multiple occasions. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE WILLINGLY.
Worst experience of my life. I stayed there for only a week, and I keep having nightmares of this place. Do not send someone who is struggling here.
Clinical care felt rigid: doctors’ orders were prioritized over patient input, with little room for individualized assessment or genuine listening. Note: the treating physicians are independent contractors, not hospital… employees. Staff quality was inconsistent — some were kind and attentive, others short-tempered, and basic requests were routinely denied with little explanation. The social worker seemed overloaded, with too much paperwork and not enough time to properly handle documentation — which likely contributed to some of the breakdowns in care. After discharge, the facility refused to communicate with my aftercare provider despite repeated attempts, leaving my family to fill in the gaps during an already stressful transition. I’m not affiliated with this facility. Sharing this so others know what to expect and can advocate for themselves early.
This place is very unprofessional. Its a real scrappy facility.
Not my experience, my sons’s.He was Involuntarily admitted for being a danger to himself. He has a history of mood swings and was diagnosed long ago, bipolar. The “doctors“ who treated him gave him an antidepressant,… kept him for five business days, and then release him. Today’s the day they released him. He’s terrorizing his girlfriend again. Idiots. If he harms her or himself, I’m going to be extremely upset. I would recommend never going to this place if you want a proper diagnosis.
Overall horrible experience, most “patients” Are kids held against there wills because of terrible parents, even sometimes because the staff won’t notify legal guardians and let them know the right steps to get them… out. The people I met in here made me realize how wrong this system truly is. I really wish this gets taken into accountability and the right actions are taken.
Horrific. On unit C2 and unfortunately sent there after a a very negligent hospital stay at Abington. I had MEDICAL issues that impacted my mental health: acute alcohol poisoning, very low sodium and a raging sinus… infection. Barely treated for low sodium and alcohol withdrawal. Never treated for the sinus infection and then shipped to this terrifying filthy inhumane Brooke Glen. It took me DAYS to get an antibiotic. I would not wish this place on another living soul. My mental health got worse as I tried to navigate and survive this place. I’m still recovering from the trauma. I’m very grateful that I was able to get myself out of that nightmare and on a path to health. Brooke Glen is an abusive sad place.
I had excellent collateral contact with Zoe. She demonstrated clinical insight and knowledge.
They are/were incapable of assisting me with my TBIs, TES, CTE brain disease..In fact I left there more discouraged Disappointed frustrated brokenhearted..Everyone including doctors caseworkers techs would always say… talk to somebody else they have good advice or experience in dealing with people like me dealing with CTE\TES, I would seek them out and it all led to another dead end no leads or good advice in dealing with my personal situation. This has been my lifelong experience when seeking help, all professionals across all the disciplines neurology psychology GPs etc…It’s like I am a can that gets kicked from one department to another and everyone tells you what a horrible disease and road ahead you’re facing, go talk to someone else maybe they can help you but in reality when you get there it’s another dead end. When I did open up about my struggle it was like I was getting judged and shamed and they only wanted to say that it was simple depression and nothing more so yes very disappointing!
I understand HIPPA laws, but significant others should be a part of admissions. Being admitted on a Friday evening slowed vital information.
If your love your family member do not send them here the staff puts the patients personal safety at risk by choosing to ignore risky behavior they should be investigated and shut down
Horrible place don’t even let your loved ones go here. No professional nothing I wouldn’t let my enemies go here. My brother was here for a week he said it’s freezing place is dirty they have roaches mice etc and black… mold he is worse now then he was when he went in last week they are moving him to Delaware county hopefully he gets better treatment than this place
I spent 10 days here and I must say it made my mental health worse then how I felt when I was sent there. 1. The place is dirty, unkempt, bugs everywhere, and flies in the cafeteria 2. The staff will disregard you every… chance they get, I had to wait two hours to use the bathroom because they lock everything and the staff stand around and talk to each other and give you attitude and disrespect for the simplest things, including cups so I could drink water. They will strip you of all your human rights and even necessities 3. I experienced 3 days of sexual assault from another patient and made multiple reports to staff and other people who were witnessing it made reports and nothing happened of the situation until I told my parental figure and we threatened legal action. The supervisor of the C2 unit I was in proceeded to lie to my guardian and said they were removing the other patient from the unit but she spoke to me and said she was going to switch ME to a different unit which would reset my time there when all I wanted to do was go home and feel safe again 4. My doctor would come in after the designated lights out time and I would be asleep just to get woken up and how is real progress going to happen in that setting? 5. Multiple patients there were told discharge dates and times and then staff would come out hours after the patients should have left the hospital and say they had to stay an extra 3 days. Very sketchy place and they don't communicate med changes, discharge times, or anything there with the patients or any of their family. Be very careful here because they just treat you like a puppet and an animal. 0 stars
They messed up my discharge twice. They didn’t have the right medication listed when I left the facility. They almost overdosed me on medication’s. They lock you out of your rooms all day. It’s freezing in the building… and you’re not allowed to use a blanket. I could go on and on. You could taste the cleaning products in the food that they made.
Should be called hell.
Only there for a few days and hated it. It was dirty, staff weren’t accommodating, food was horrible. I’ll never go there again for help. Highly recommend to avoid this place like the plague
I am not the patient so this is a review of the experience of a family member of a patient. Terrible communication. The patient themselves wasn’t told anything about their treatment plan for six days. SIX days. It took… me myself calling 4x asking why the patient hasn’t gotten it for the patient to eventually get 1x1 therapy, which, again, they only gave after the patient was there for a week (and again, seemingly only because I asked. The patient asked for it and was told they would receive it and just never did). In addition, Admissions told me they had visiting hours for 1.5 or 2 hours for the July 4th holiday. Each time I called to ask when the hours were, I got different answers: one person told me 2-3:30, one person told me 2-4, one person told me to call back because the unit wouldn’t answer the phone, and a fourth person told me actually there weren’t visiting hours at all (and then told me she never said that). Insane disorganization. Often I will call the unit and the nurse will tell me they haven’t had the time to look at my patient’s chart, so I’ll have to call later. And then I do, and they either say the same thing or straight up don’t even pick up. The way they act would make any reasonable person believe that Brooke Glen has an internal policy requiring that nobody communicates with the patients or family. Yes, it is just that bad and embarrassing that that insane idea genuinely seems more plausible than a facility just operating this badly by happenstance. How on Earth is someone supposed to get better when they’re in the dark on what their care will look like or how long their stay will be? This patient signed in voluntarily for help and is suffering an unpleasant, confusing experience. Any rational person seeking help would be discouraged from being vulnerable again in the future after experiencing how Brooke Glen operates. I get that this is a difficult field and they’re probably understaffed. If that’s the case, the responsible and science- and trauma-informed approach would be to take less patients and increase efforts to staff the facility. But because they’re owned by private equity, it’s obvious they’re just looking to maximize profits even if it’s not in the patients’ best interest. For what it’s worth the patient tells me the food is pretty decent and the staff are mostly nice. But still an overall pathetic excuse for psychiatric help and definitely somewhere you should avoid if you have the resources to do so. EDIT: The hospital is claiming federal privacy law as an excuse. I was authorized by the patient for disclosure and told repeatedly by staff they would keep me up to date and call me with updates. So the response below makes no sense. Not only did these updates not happen, but when I reached out on my own initiative after hearing nothing, either my call would get ignored, I was told conflicting information, or staff told me that they didn't know anything.
I had a terrible experience there I was a patient there last week Like anything else not the entire staff was terrible but more bad then not I woke up in the early morning hours Could have been around three in the… morning, my room was directly adjacent to the nurses station So I walk out of my room and there is a night Nurse sitting at the nurses station Me being a particularly friendly type of guy I asked her” Nurse, have you ever heard that nursing is the Nobles profession?” The, the woman rudely responded now I’ve never heard that” I tend to be the friendly. I tend to be the friendly sort of guy was taken back by her response and I responded.” Well, I guess you don’t qualify” In terms of star ratings They get 0 stars The first night I was in there I was freezing, and I asked for another blanket, which was refused Because of Patient safety well if a patient is planning on harming himself with a blanket by hanging, I’m sure that it can be done with one blanket, just as easy as too This place is a nightmare. I am very glad that I am out. 0 stars
I went there because of my mental illness and this place just made it the most HORRIBLE experience in a medical facility I have ever had. The staff were so rude, they were talking about the patients negatively and even… though I walked away with tools from therapy, the environment was extremely toxic to say the very least.
Certain nursing personnel appeared not to be licensed by the Pa Nursing Board.
They Allowed Me To Be Able To Take Better Care Of My Life. For Ever I Will Be Grateful 🥹
It’s a downright prison at this dump, they don’t care about you, treat you like caged animals. This place in no way shape or form helped me only made me worse. STAY CLEAR of this facility
As a behavioral health professional, I have referred many clients and their families to Brooke Glen. I consistently receive positive feedback about the compassionate care, knowledgeable staff, and effective treatment.… The facility provides excellent communication and coordinated support. I highly recommend BG to colleagues and families.
The marketing team is always professional, compassionate, and incredibly responsive. They communicate clearly throughout the process. Highly recommend working with this team!
My child was hospitalized 4 times this was by far the best experience we have had to be honest. Hope its our last!
