The falls the city is named for are man-made. There was a dam here in 1912 to feed a hydroelectric plant, and the riverbed was rebuilt after the Teton Dam failed in 1976 — before all that the place was called Eagle Rock.

Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center is the reason. It is a Level II trauma center, it holds Idaho’s only burn center and the region’s only pediatric intensive care unit, and it serves southeastern Idaho, western Wyoming and part of Montana. Its behavioral health center runs inpatient psychiatric care for adults and adolescents and an intensive outpatient program, though its own published services do not extend to withdrawal management.
