Ambetter (Centene)

Rehabs That Take Ambetter

Ambetter is Centene’s marketplace brand, sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges across roughly thirty states. It covers addiction treatment as an essential health benefit, spanning medical detox, residential care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient therapy, subject to medical necessity and prior authorization.

Ambetter plans are built around narrow networks and low premiums, which is the trade-off worth understanding before choosing a facility. Out-of-network residential treatment is generally not covered at all on these plans, so confirm network status with Ambetter directly rather than relying on a facility’s assurance.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Ambetter cover rehab?

Yes, every Ambetter plan covers mental health and substance use disorder treatment as an essential health benefit, because they are Marketplace plans sold under the Affordable Care Act. Detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient counseling are all part of the benefit, subject to medical necessity review.

On Ambetter HMO and EPO plans the facility must be in network, since out-of-network mental health and substance use care is listed as not covered except for emergencies.

Does Ambetter cover inpatient rehab?

Yes, inpatient mental health and substance use care is covered on Ambetter plans, shown as Covered No Limit on 2026 plan summaries, with no day cap. Members pay coinsurance after the deductible, commonly 30 to 50 percent on silver plans, and prior authorization may be required.

Elective admissions in Texas need authorization at least five days ahead; an emergency admission needs none, with notification to the plan within one business day.

Does Ambetter cover detox?

Yes, medically supervised withdrawal is part of the substance use benefit. Outpatient substance use detoxification appears on Ambetter's Texas prior authorization list, meaning it is covered once approved, and inpatient detox follows the inpatient admission rules with coinsurance after the deductible.

Does Ambetter Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?

Yes. Ambetter plans are sold on the Affordable Care Act marketplaces, and every marketplace plan must include mental health and substance use disorder treatment among its ten essential health benefits. Federal parity law then requires those benefits to carry no tighter limits than comparable medical care.

Ambetter is the marketplace brand of Centene, the largest Medicaid managed care company in the country, and that background shapes the product. Ambetter competes primarily on price, and it does so through narrow provider networks and firm utilization management rather than by covering less on paper.

The Network Question Comes First

Most Ambetter products are HMO or EPO plans, which pay nothing for out-of-network care except genuine emergencies. A residential program in another state is therefore usually not an option, whatever it tells you about working with Ambetter. Verify network status with Ambetter before admission, in writing if possible.

What Changed for 2026

Two shifts affect anyone holding or considering an Ambetter plan. The enhanced premium tax credits that had reduced marketplace premiums since 2021 expired at the end of 2025, and premiums rose sharply for many enrollees as a result. Households above four times the federal poverty level lost subsidy eligibility entirely, and many enrollees moved to bronze plans with substantially higher deductibles.
