Rehabs That Take Magellan Health

Magellan Health administers behavioral health benefits rather than selling insurance of its own. It manages mental health and addiction coverage for employers, for health plans and, distinctively, for a number of state Medicaid programs, which means many people encounter it through public coverage rather than through work.

Whichever route brought you here, Magellan holds the behavioral provider network and makes the medical necessity decision on any rehab admission, while the underlying plan or state program separately sets what you pay. Use the behavioral health number printed on your card rather than general member services.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Magellan cover rehab?

Yes, though Magellan does not set the benefit itself. It manages mental health and substance use coverage for a health plan, employer or state program, and that sponsor decides what rehab is covered and at what cost. Its employer plans describe inpatient detoxification, residential treatment centers and outpatient care.

Call the behavioral health number printed on your member ID card rather than general member services; that line reaches the Magellan team for your specific contract.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
What is Magellan Health insurance?

Magellan is not a general health insurer. It is a managed behavioral health company that runs mental health and substance use benefits, employee assistance programs and government behavioral health contracts for health plans, employers, states, counties and federal agencies. Members get it through one of those sponsors.

Founded in 1969 as Charter Medical, the company reports more than 20 million members and a behavioral network of over 118,000 credentialed providers.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does Magellan cover detox?

Yes, detox is covered under the plans Magellan manages, with the sponsoring plan setting the terms. Magellan's employer behavioral health continuum includes inpatient detoxification. Pennsylvania HealthChoices covers ambulatory, clinically managed residential and medically managed withdrawal, and the Idaho Behavioral Health Plan covers inpatient medically managed withdrawal for Medicaid members.

In Idaho, ASAM level 4.0 and 3.7 withdrawal care needs notification of admission within 72 hours rather than prior authorization.

What Magellan Does

Magellan Health is a managed behavioral health organization. It does not issue insurance policies. It runs the mental health and substance use portion of coverage on behalf of others: employers who carve out behavioral health, commercial health plans, and state governments that contract it to manage their Medicaid behavioral benefit.

That public sector work distinguishes Magellan from the other large behavioral administrators. In several states it has held statewide contracts, which means it is not only an employer benefit intermediary but part of the public treatment infrastructure.

Find Out Which Route Applies

If your coverage is through work, Magellan authorizes treatment while your plan sets cost sharing. If it is through a state Medicaid contract, the state’s rules govern the benefit, cost sharing is minimal or absent, and appeals run through the state process rather than an employer plan’s. These lead to different places, so establish which applies at the first call.

Does Magellan Cover Rehab?

The benefit belongs to the plan or program behind it, and addiction treatment is covered because federal parity law requires substance use benefits to sit on equal terms with medical ones, and because state Medicaid programs cover it directly.
