People searching for addiction and mental health treatment are often making a difficult decision under pressure. This policy explains where our listing data comes from, what each listing shows, and what we do when information is out of date.
Where Listing Data Comes From
Listings are built from official sources rather than facility marketing pages. Each listing draws on:
Federal records: US listings draw on SAMHSA’s treatment facility records.
State licensing: License details are shown where the state licensing agency lists the facility. Outside the US, the national regulator is used where one exists, such as the CQC in England.
Accreditation: The Joint Commission, CARF and LegitScript status is shown only where the awarding body lists the facility.
Facility updates: Facilities can send us corrections, which are added to the listing.
What Listings Show
United States Listings
- Accreditation: The Joint Commission and CARF accreditation are shown where those bodies list the facility.
- Insurance: Private insurers and public options such as Medicaid and TRICARE are shown where the facility or its records name them.
- LegitScript: Certification is shown where LegitScript lists the facility.
International Listings
- Travel: Distance to the nearest international airport is shown where the facility’s location is stored.
- Language: Treatment languages are shown where the facility lists them.
- Continuity of care: Ask the facility how it transfers medical records to your home doctor after discharge.
Keeping Listings Current
Treatment facilities move, change phone numbers and join or leave insurance networks. Listings are kept current in three ways:
- Source updates: Listings are refreshed when SAMHSA and state licensing records are updated.
- Corrections: Reports from facilities and readers are used to update the listing.
- Independence: RehabSeekers takes no commission or referral fees. The RehabSeekers seal appears only on listings that have completed verification, and it cannot be bought.
Behind every search is a person or a family trying to find care. Our job is to show where treatment is, what each listing is based on, and where to look next, so you can ask the right questions when you call a facility.

Privacy Note: Please do not include your own confidential medical history or sensitive personal health information in your report. We only require the details necessary to correct the facility’s public listing.

How does Rehab Seekers decide which facilities to list?
RehabSeekers lists facilities that appear in SAMHSA records, state licensing data or other official registers, along with facilities that submit their details. Being listed does not mean RehabSeekers recommends a facility.
Can a treatment center pay for the RehabSeekers seal?
No. The seal cannot be bought, and paying for any other RehabSeekers service does not affect whether it is granted. Most listings do not carry the seal. It appears only on listings that have completed verification.
How often is the directory information updated?
Listings are refreshed when SAMHSA and state licensing records are updated, and whenever a facility or reader sends a correction.
