Yes, AmeriHealth lists substance use disorder treatment among its behavioral health benefits, and its utilization rules name inpatient care, residential treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient as covered levels of care. Yes, alcohol treatment is covered the same way as other substance use care, across withdrawal management, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient therapy. AmeriHealth's substance use page names Ria Health for virtual alcohol treatment and Pelago for virtual alcohol and opioid care.

Acamprosate and disulfiram sit on the Generic tier of the 2026 individual drug list with no restrictions, and oral naltrexone is also Generic tier.

Yes, withdrawal management is covered. Inpatient detox needs prior authorization and is reviewed against ASAM criteria. On one 2026 individual plan, IHC Silver EPO HSA Local Value, inpatient care costs $500 a day with a maximum of five copayments per admission.

Does AmeriHealth Cover Rehab?

Yes. Coverage includes medically supervised withdrawal, residential and inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient care, alongside medication for opioid use disorder.

AmeriHealth grew out of the Independence Blue Cross family and operates commercial coverage in the mid-Atlantic alongside AmeriHealth Caritas, which runs Medicaid managed care in a number of states. Which of those you hold changes the rules substantially.

New Jersey’s 2017 Law

For the first 180 days each plan year of in-network substance use treatment, benefits must be provided where your own clinician determines they are medically necessary, with no prior authorization. The first 28 days of an inpatient stay additionally sit outside concurrent and retrospective review. Where no in-network bed is available, the insurer must grant an exception so admission happens within 24 hours.

The facility notifies the insurer of the admission within 48 hours, which is its job rather than yours. Providers also may not demand prepayment beyond your ordinary cost share during that period.
