About Guardian Recovery – Portland
Guardian Recovery operates from 17 Bishop Street in Portland. The site sits in Cumberland County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Falmouth Foreside, Falmouth and South Portland. Maine draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.
Detox, residential treatment, intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Detox and Rehab Services at Guardian Recovery
Withdrawal management covers alcohol, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methamphetamine and opioid dependence and is handled on site rather than referred elsewhere. Someone starting in detox can move into residential care without changing provider or repeating an intake. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.
Residential here is short-term, which makes what follows discharge the more important question. Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers.

I’m giving them 1 star because I lost clients because they would not let me make phone calls for my business and they only cared about getting paid once I found out my insurance had Lapsed. Didn’t even get the right… detox meds before they were calling me in the office freaking out about getting paid. While in office I was able to finally ask to see a provider. Was simply hung up on for telling them to resubmit my insurance information because main care made a mistake if this is a place you want to go make sure you know that all they care about is the money bottom line signs. The mail I saw didn’t even put me on the proper medication regimen. Also, when they found out my insurance had labs, they called me to ask me to pay them myself…don’t recommend unless you want them to just care about the money.
I know a few people that have went through this program and have nothing but wonderful things to say and they are doing amazing. They have wonderful things to say about staff. Nate, Kristie and Molly are the best.
Pine tree detox was a great experience. Made me feel really comfortable and helped me detox safely. I would recommend

Learned a lot.
Staff is amazing
Closely monitored & safe detox, friendly and supportive staff, good food!
Amazing staff and facilities!
Pine Tree’s IOP program is a great way to extend care or support your recovery. The schedule provides flexibility for people with families, jobs, or other commitments. I have seen so many people transform their lives in… the few short months I was here. I was exposed to a wide variety of treatment modalities while still being able to dive deep into the work of recovering.
Great people. Great experience!
Great place love the staff
Really nice people great to work with . Really care about how you are doing.
Pine Tree is a very supportive team. They are easy to relate to and super understanding. I would highly recommend Pine Tree!
My husband went and decided it was not the detox program for him. I had to call the police because they refuse to release his belongings to him upon him leaving. We live 2 hours away and they expected him to hang out on… the streets in Portland with no phone, wallet, keys, or his daily medications
I won’t go back again
I was told the food and nursing staff was good as well as other patients there in detox. The problems started when they wanted to move my adult child too soon to a sober house called Southern Maine Recovery. We had… stated numerous times, before leaving to arrive for detox, inpatient 30/60/90 day treatment is what we were looking for, not 6 months in sober house with no money for food and $650 rent with limited clinical resources. The staff undermined and misled the treatment plan even though the patient was asking to stay on premise for inpatient 30/60/90 day treatment. Some other patients were coerced into treatment they were not comfortable with too. It seems the interest is in making money not truly listening to what the patients need for care. Playing patient and contact/parent into thinking that the other was wanting what they were pushing for treatment when in fact neither of us wanted sober living this early in recovery; especially with no financial means to pay for food and rent. It seems like some kind of fraud signing patients up for food EBT and letting patients believe parents wanted to pay 100% of the sober living. Definitely not full honest exposure to the process and not willing to listen to what patients needs are. The first 32-36 hours patient spent in ER at local hospital. I would say the problems started needing to call every day to see if they had a bed available and given the information, “the only way to an inpatient bed is through detoxing at Pinetree.” Expecting a heavy alcoholic or drug addiction to call daily on hopes of a bed is not a great process. When a sober person calls they tell them the only way to inpatient treatment is if drinking and needs detox. Then gaslighting, twisting, undermining, and coercion for treatment is inexcusable and threatens a person’s sobriety.
Wonderful staff and overall experience.
The food is great, the staff is very supportive and caring!
I’ve been to Pine Tree twice and both times were positive experiences. However, if you call them looking to recover and you’re pregnant you will be left out in the cold. Apparently even for detox you’re too much of a… liability despite them sending people to hospital for a uti ,but pregnancy crosses the line. I
