Rehabs That Take Evernorth

Evernorth is the health services arm of Cigna, and it administers behavioral health benefits rather than selling insurance of its own. For someone seeking addiction treatment, Evernorth is who holds the provider network, applies the medical necessity criteria and decides whether a residential admission is authorized.

It also runs the pharmacy benefit for many of the same members through Express Scripts, which means the medication side of addiction treatment frequently sits under the same corporate roof as the clinical authorization. That arrangement is unusual and, for medication-assisted treatment specifically, genuinely useful.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is Evernorth Health Services?

Evernorth Health Services is The Cigna Group's health services division. Launched in September 2020 and renamed Evernorth Health Services on 13 February 2023, it provides pharmacy benefits through Express Scripts, virtual care through MD Live, utilization management through EviCore, and behavioral health benefits and networks through Evernorth Behavioral Health.

Evernorth sells these services to employers, health plans, hospitals, labor unions, the federal government and public sector entities rather than selling medical insurance directly to individuals.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Is Evernorth health insurance?

No, Evernorth is not a health insurer and does not sell medical plans. Evernorth administers parts of other plans: behavioral health benefits and provider networks, pharmacy benefits, and virtual care. The insurance itself comes from Cigna Healthcare, another health plan, or a self-funded employer plan.

Evernorth Behavioral Health, Inc. is registered with the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance as a third party administrator.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Is Evernorth the same as Cigna?

No, though both belong to The Cigna Group. Cigna Healthcare is the insurance division; Evernorth Health Services is the services arm that administers behavioral and pharmacy benefits for it. Cigna Behavioral Health, Inc. became Evernorth Behavioral Health, Inc. on 1 September 2021.

That rename touched only the behavioral network. Medical contracts stayed under Cigna, and members kept their existing Cigna ID cards with no new cards issued.

What Evernorth Does

Evernorth is the health services business Cigna built around its behavioral health, pharmacy and care delivery operations. It does not issue insurance policies. It administers the mental health and substance use portion of coverage on behalf of Cigna and of employers and health plans that contract it directly.

For addiction treatment this is a practical fact rather than a corporate one. Evernorth holds the behavioral provider directory, applies the medical necessity criteria and issues or refuses the authorization that determines whether a residential admission gets paid for.

Use the Behavioral Number

Your card will usually carry a general member services number and a separate behavioral health number. Use the behavioral one. It reaches the team holding the network and the criteria your admission will be judged against, and calling the general line generally means being transferred there anyway.

Medication and the Pharmacy Side

Evernorth also owns Express Scripts, which administers pharmacy benefits for a large share of the same members. For addiction treatment that connection matters more than it might appear.
