Rehabs That Take Highmark

Highmark is the Blue Cross Blue Shield licensee across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware and parts of northeastern New York, and it owns the Allegheny Health Network hospital system alongside the insurance business. Addiction treatment is covered across medical detox, residential care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient therapy.

Pennsylvania is the state that shapes most Highmark questions. It licenses treatment providers through its own drug and alcohol department, requires state-regulated plans to cover a defined minimum of addiction treatment, and limits how quickly insurers may apply utilization review to those services once a licensed provider has recommended them.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Highmark cover drug and alcohol rehab?

Yes, Highmark plans cover addiction treatment across medical detox, inpatient and residential rehab, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and standard outpatient counseling, with the amount you pay set by your specific plan. Highmark Behavioral Health Services runs utilization management and case management for these benefits in house rather than through a carve-out company.

Some employer groups buy behavioral health coverage from another company, so benefits should always be checked against the member's own plan documents before admission.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does Highmark cover medical detox?

Yes, inpatient detoxification is a covered benefit on Highmark employer plans: the Allied Services BlueCare Custom PPO in northeastern Pennsylvania pays 70% after deductible, and the Northeastern New York POS 200 Copay plan charges $250 per admission in network. Inpatient behavioral health generally needs authorization first.

New York waives preauthorization for the first 28 days at in-network OASAS-licensed facilities, and Delaware fully insured plans waive it for the first 5 days of withdrawal management.

Medical Detoxhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/detox-centers/medical-detox/
How much does inpatient rehab cost with Highmark?

Expect 70% after deductible on one employer's Allied Services BlueCare Custom PPO, where the deductible is $3,000 individual and $6,000 family, or a flat $250 per admission on the Northeastern New York POS 200 Copay plan, capped at $500 per member. Plans use either coinsurance or copays.

A 2026 Freedom Blue PPO group plan in Pennsylvania shows 0% coinsurance for inpatient stays, a $250 deductible and a $1,000 out-of-pocket maximum excluding Part D drugs.

Does Highmark Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?

Yes. Highmark covers substance use disorder treatment across the continuum, as federal parity law requires and as Pennsylvania law reinforces for plans it regulates. Highmark is one of the larger Blue plans nationally and operates as an integrated system in western Pennsylvania, where it also owns hospitals and physician practices through Allegheny Health Network.

That integration matters practically. In the Pittsburgh area a Highmark member may be treated within a Highmark-owned system, which simplifies coordination. Elsewhere in its footprint Highmark functions as a conventional network insurer.

Pennsylvania’s Treatment Rules

Pennsylvania requires state-regulated plans to cover a minimum level of detoxification and rehabilitation, and restricts insurers from applying utilization review during an initial period of treatment where a licensed provider has determined care is necessary. The Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs licenses facilities, and checking a program’s license there is a sensible first step.

Coverage by Level of Care

Detox

Medically supervised withdrawal is covered. Pennsylvania has been among the states hardest hit by opioids, and detox capacity across the state reflects that, though availability is far better around Pittsburgh and Philadelphia than in rural counties.
