Rehabs That Take EmblemHealth

EmblemHealth is a long-standing New York insurer covering commercial, Medicare and Medicaid members, including a substantial number of the city’s own municipal workers. Addiction treatment is covered across withdrawal management, inpatient rehabilitation, residential care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs and standard outpatient counseling services throughout.

New York’s protections apply here just as they do to every other plan the state regulates. Insurers must use state-designated criteria when making level of care decisions, prior authorization is restricted for medication treating opioid use disorder, and state certification of a treatment program carries real weight in these decisions.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does GHI insurance cover alcohol rehab?

Yes, GHI plans are EmblemHealth plans, and alcohol treatment is covered on terms at least equal to other medical conditions. Covered levels include inpatient detoxification, residential rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient counseling. Your share of the cost depends on which plan you hold.

The GHI Comprehensive Benefits Plan for City of New York workers ended December 31, 2025 and was replaced by NYCE PPO on January 1, 2026.

Alcohol Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/addictions/alcohol/
Does GHI insurance cover drug rehab?

Yes. Plans underwritten by EmblemHealth Plan, Inc., the company formerly named GHI, list medically supervised withdrawal, inpatient detoxification, residential substance use rehabilitation, opioid treatment programs with medication assisted treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient as covered services. Inpatient, PHP and IOP need preauthorization or notification first.

Behavioral health for these plans runs through the EmblemHealth Behavioral Management Program, administered by Carelon Behavioral Health; the member line is 888-447-2526, open 24 hours.

Inpatient Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/inpatient/
Is GHI the same as EmblemHealth?

Yes, in practice. GHI, Group Health Incorporated, was founded in 1937 and merged with HIP in 2006 to create EmblemHealth. Its legal name today is EmblemHealth Plan, Inc., and it underwrites the EPO and PPO products. The GHI name still appears on plans such as GHI Senior Care.

EmblemHealth describes itself as a not-for-profit insurer serving over three million members, with its headquarters at 55 Water Street in Lower Manhattan.

Does EmblemHealth Cover Rehab?

Yes. Coverage includes medically supervised withdrawal, inpatient rehabilitation, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient counseling, alongside medication for opioid use disorder.

EmblemHealth traces back to two of New York’s oldest non-profit insurers and covers a large share of the city’s municipal workforce alongside commercial, Medicare and Medicaid members. Which of those you hold changes the rules considerably.

New York’s Framework

Level of care decisions for substance use treatment must use criteria designated by the state’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports rather than criteria an insurer devises. Programs certified by OASAS have been inspected against state standards. Prior authorization has been restricted for medication treating opioid use disorder, removing a delay that costs lives.

City and Municipal Workers

A great many EmblemHealth members work for the city: sanitation, transit, schools, uniformed services and administration. The concerns that keep them from treatment are usually about the job rather than the money.
