SunCloud Health SC – Chicago Reviews and Ratings
Families searching for treatment in Chicago often start with reviews. If you were a patient at SunCloud Health SC, or supported one, sharing how it went gives them something real to go on.
I greatly value my experience at SunCloud. Both the residential and outpatient programs were very helpful to my mental health journey. The community is outstanding, the staff is amazing and the sessions / courses were… outstanding. I would highly recommend SunCloud for anyone who is struggling with any mental health or addiction issues as an outstanding resource. Thanks for everything!
I went through the IOP at Suncloud for ~7 weeks, and I had a phenomenal experience. Every single staff is so caring and attentive, and they have all helped me tremendously on my mental health recovery. I learned… numerous skills I'll be using in my day-to-day so I can continue onward with my mental health journey. I'm really grateful to SunCloud for helping me heal and connect with a community of folks who I can relate with and who can relate with my experience!
I had an incredibly positive experience with SunCloud Health. From the initial intake to the virtual IOP program, every team member went above and beyond. Everyone was so caring, professional, and supportive throughout… the process. I am so grateful for my time here and highly recommend SunCloud to anyone seeking compassionate care.
I’m writing this review as much for Suncloud as I am for the entire concept of behavioral health centers. I admitted to the adult PHP program reluctantly, but found myself not wanting to leave the community at the end… of my treatment. Their philosophy is that any and all pain is worth healing, and that we are all “in recovery” from something—whether it’s substances, eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma or anything in between. The opportunity to process your life’s challenges safely and without judgement is a privilege I wish everyone had and one I wish I knew about sooner; if you can take the time to prioritize your peace, do it here. I won’t argue with other reviews calling out some very real operational/administrative shortfalls, but these shouldn’t deter you from considering Suncloud. Remember—as it’s a fully voluntary program—you can advocate for yourself and ask all the questions you need to in order to decide if their approach and recommendations are right for you.
SunCloud has helped several of my clients get help. If they could not accept a referral for policy or client reasons, referrals were given no problem. My clients speak well of their residential and other after-care… programs. I work with Donna Bartlett frequently and she’s always on top of helping my clients referred, seeing things thru to the end. She’s very knowledgeable on their programs and services, works hard to get someone settled in their programming, is WELL connected in multiple communities and has no issues giving referrals for other clients whose needs I try to fill. Can’t say enough about Donna and SunCloud! Dr Lee too - we’ve worked together before and she knows her stuff!
DO NOT GO HERE. I can’t believe I am even giving this place a one star review if I could do lower I would. I came here in the adolescent PHP group where I vouched to take a limited time off of school to help with my… mental health. During this time I was told it would only be a few weeks before I could be released into outpatient therapy. During this time I had multiple sessions with my therapist about personal problems with the understanding that the information is confidential- in which they failed to uphold and told my personal problems to my parents making me not trust the program from the beginning. During this period I was already outraged in which they started threatening to send me to residential. With both school and my personal life I was not able to attend and continuously made that very clear as my parents were also not on board with it. I had made it clear that residential would not be helpful nor was needed in my situation as I was struggling particularly with PTSD and trauma. They also kept pushing the date back in which I was getting released leading me to stay months longer than expected while repeatedly saying I was in need of residential and using that as a hook to get more money. Not long after I rejected the MULTIPLE requests to send me to residential a situation happened between me and another student in my program- where suncloud had failed to protect my safety leading to a conflict that resulted in my mental health getting worse. Soon after I had reported the kid to my therapist, she took it upon herself to tell him exactly what I had said even though it could possibly violate my safety and I asked her multiple times not to say anything. On top of that she had also told the other kids in my group about the situation even though it was STRICTLY personal and a topic for strictly SunCloud, me, and my therapist. After that she had told my group members to not tell me she had told them anything in fear she would get in trouble. Once again violating my confidentiality not just among my family but also among my peers within a rather serious situation. ON TOP of this not long after my metal health started declining due to the incident and the failure on SunCloud part to make it a safe environment for me. I got a email saying that they would no longer welcome me in the program if I didn’t go to residential. While my mental health was already getting worse and I had made it clear I just needed any type of support. Resulting in me getting removed from the program due to their inability to protect their patients. Right after I went to another program in which I told them about SunCloud protocols and how they handled everything and they were dumbfounded but said it’s not the first time they’ve heard of this from this particular program. They also told me I was in no need for residential in which SunCloud kept infringing on and saying it was necessary. THIS PROGRAM IS A SCAM. Just about everyone who had been in there with me was removed from the program or sent to residential when they clearly did not need to be and did not violate the codes that would get you sent there. They are there to empty your pockets with the price that you will be better- in this case it made me a lot worse. Save yourself time and find yourself another program who will not break confidentiality, will protect you and take accountability, and will not kick you out and use your struggles to get money when your already going into a lower mental state due to their inability to actually give good tools to help with mental health.
I attended a webinar titled Intersection of PTSD with Eating Disorders and Addiction. The presentation was very informative and will help me as I work with clients. Thank you for sharing facts and statistics on the… subject. Keep up the good work!
This training was very helpful. Linda khan CADC
Whole person healing. Expert Clinical team. Compassionate staff that really works on helping, not just the client but their support system. They have a family support group that parents can continue to attend even after… their child completes care. Flexible programming for adults and teens. I highly recommend SunCloud Health for Adults and Teens. Teen program is by far the best Ive seen in my almost 20 years in behavioral health. I will continue to recommend friends, clients and family to SunCloud. thank you for the important work you do to help our community.
I wanted to take a moment to personally applaud Lori Kehoe, for her incredible work at SunCloud. Your dedication, professionalism, and the positive energy you bring to your work truly stand out. When I require… information, assistance and updates Lori is, “spot on” in her support. It’s inspiring to see the level of commitment and care you put into everything you do. Thank you so much for all you do!
I had a client who was in need of a higher level of care and Sun Cloud did a phenomenal job communicating with me throughout the process from admissions through discharge planning. I was even able to participate in a… group session with my client, the psychiatrist and the outpatient team which was very beneficial as we planned for her discharge. This is HUGE for outpatient providers as it keeps us in the loop with our clients while they are in treatment and makes the transition to outpatient care smoother for both the provider and the client. Unfortunately, not all treatment centers communicate in this way so, from my experience, this set Sun Cloud apart.
i have very complicated feelings about this organization. SunCloud did help me in a lot of ways, but they are so organizationally bankrupt that i cannot recommend that anyone else go here. i won’t go over every single… little thing - i was moved up to their residential program a month into my treatment (which is something i still disagree with, but i understand why the decision was made), so my treatment at this location was split into two parts. when i first came here, i thought that i was in the wrong program. there was nothing but addiction and 12 step programming the days i came in, and i was initially interested in SunCloud because of OCD, and the prospect of maybe getting TMS. i later learned that, no, i wasn’t in the wrong program, and they just have that much addiction programming for everyone. their philosophy is that putting everyone with many different issues together helps build community between everyone - which i do understand, but… i did come wanting a lot more 1 on 1 therapy, which was only provided once a week (where i got actual work done). about a month of being here, i was suddenly told one day that “SunCloud recommends” i move up to residential because of concerns around my weight (i didn’t and never have had an eating disorder). i initially declined and thought that i could work on it in PHP (as it would also be a lot better for my depression and OCD), but then learned the next day that SunCloud’s “recommendation” actually means that they will force you to do it or else not treat you anymore, which… would’ve been nice to know earlier. a lot of terrible things happened in residential which is a whole different thing, but when coming back to this location, i had requested a different therapist here. this never happened. i had also requested psychological testing here the first time around, and two months later, i was told that it would be next week. next week rolls around, and i’m told it’s happening next week. next week rolls around, and i’m told that actually, sorry, SunCloud can’t test me for DID here. this was a bit of a shock to me, considering that i wanted to do testing for ADHD and autism? eventually this miscommunication got cleared up - i couldn’t do testing here because i have DID and they can’t factor for that - but there have just been so many examples of mismanagement in this organization that it’s impossible to name them all. i also have a lot of issues with my personal therapist, hence why i mentioned wanting to switch earlier. i won’t get into why, as i do think he works well with others and his style doesn’t match with me, but this situation should’ve been handled before i felt like i couldn’t even talk to him anymore about anything. now, my OCD did improve quite a bit while at SunCloud. but, i think this is moreso due to medication changes (the psychiatrist here is quite good) and pushing myself personally, rather than any therapeutic work that they did. the community connection can vary, but i did feel like i could relate to people here - especially with them having a dedicated LGBTQ+ group which was helpful for me as a lesbian :p but.. the organization itself? i simply cannot recommend SunCloud to anyone. please seek treatment elsewhere, and i hope whoever is reading this finds success on their treatment journey c:
A Life-Changing Experience I cannot say enough good things about my experience at SunCloud. From the moment I arrived, I felt truly seen, heard, and cared for. The staff—from therapists, psychiatrists and support team… members—are compassionate, highly skilled, and deeply committed to each individual's healing journey. Group and individual sessions are both insightful and empowering, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based practices, and trauma-informed care. What stood out most was the sense of community and genuine connection. My time here helped me develop the tools I needed to manage my mental health. I wholeheartedly recommend this facility. It truly saved my life, and I will always be grateful.
Sun Cloud Health egregiously violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and the ethical guidelines for a mental health institution by forcing me to discharge from their Chicago location's PHP program due to deeming my… service animal a "safety concern" (their words). There were two incidents on separate treatment days in which my service animal did bark - once because another patient slammed a door and a second time on a separate occasion due to the same patient stepping on him. I immediately corrected the behavior and removed my dog from the presence of the other patient in both scenarios, and also implemented proactive measures to manage interactions with this other patient. Sun Cloud did not discuss either of these incidents with me, but made an internal decision without my knowledge or involvement to prohibit me from bringing my service animal to programming. Sun Cloud Health did not offer alternate accommodations for my disability, instead forcing me to prematurely discharge from their program. Earlier in the same day, I had alerted the Sun Cloud Health team of active suicidal ideation symptoms (with intent). This took place approximately 4 hours prior to discharge. Still, I was discharged by the Site Director and my assigned Treatment Coordinator with no resources, follow-up, or plan for continuation of care. The Sun Cloud Health team did not contact my emergency contact or outpatient treatment team despite discharging me with active suicidal ideation, among other active symptoms. To this date I have received no follow up from Sun Cloud Health, though they did continue to charge my payment plan. Through discussing this incident with my outpatient treatment team I have learned this is not an isolated incident of ethical violations within Sun Cloud Health and it seems to be a matter of time before their lack of concern for patient care results in loss of life. I would not recommend Sun Cloud Health to anyone seeking compassionate and ethically sound treatment.
I’m so grateful for my time in the PHP/IOP program. The program and dedicated staff truly saved my life. I can say I made some positive and permanent change in my life after being there for about 6 months. It’s been 1.5… years since I was discharged and I’m so grateful for the help I got. There really isn’t a price to getting better after trauma and severe mental illness. Paige, Dr Annan, and the rest of the staff were so wonderful.
Sun Cloud Health is an exceptional mental health care center that truly prioritizes families and community well-being. From the moment you step through their doors, you are welcomed into a warm and supportive… environment where individuals and families alike are met with compassion, professionalism, and a deep understanding of mental health challenges. One of the standout aspects of Sun Cloud Health is their dedication to family-centered care. They recognize that mental health is not just an individual journey but one that affects and is affected by loved ones. Their programs are designed to include family members in the healing process, offering therapy sessions that strengthen relationships, improve communication, and foster resilience. Whether it’s parental support groups, couples counseling, or workshops for children and adolescents, they go the extra mile to ensure that every member of the family receives the support they need. Beyond their commitment to families, Sun cloud Health is deeply involved in the community. They offer outreach programs, educational seminars, and partnerships with local schools, businesses, and organizations to promote mental health awareness and early intervention. Their sliding-scale payment options and accessible care initiatives demonstrate a true commitment to making quality mental health services available to everyone, regardless of financial status. The staff at Sun Cloud Health is another reason this facility stands out. Their team of therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers are not only highly skilled but also genuinely invested in their patients’ well-being. They take the time to create individualized treatment plans, integrating evidence-based therapies with holistic approaches that address mind, body, and spirit. If you are seeking a mental health care facility that treats you like family and prioritizes both personal and community healing, Sun cloud Health is a place where you will find understanding, support, and hope. I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of compassionate and comprehensive mental health care.
I have known Dr Kim for over 10 years and can attest to her reputation, professionalism and experience. She is highly respected in the field and puts patient care first. The standard of care is set higher for others in… the organization from her leadership.
Dr Kim is an amazing doctor and an even better person. She is honest and caring and put her patients first all day every day.I have seen her and her husband pour their lives in to building SunCloud and I know she… provides exceptional care.
I entered a PHP program at SunCloud for my anxiety and depression. I was really nervous at first because I just assumed it would be like what I saw in movies - people in white gowns mumbling about, running into one… another. Turns out it was the complete opposite. The staff were so patient and funny, it was hard to have a bad day in such a comforting environment. SunCloud focuses on a community-based approach meaning patients were encouraged to check in with each other and openly discuss any hardships (only what they’re comfortable with, no one is forced to talk or share, ever). I was a little hesitant with this, but soon realized that healing the community was actually healing me. We gave to and took from one another in a way I can’t really explain. It was all so therapeutic and cathartic at the same time. SunCloud saved my life. They changed the fundamental way I approach life and deal with the difficult times. The mornings aren’t so dreadful anymore, and the unexpected, sudden changes in life are no longer so catastrophic.
I referred a family member to SunCloud because I have a friend who works there. My friend has talked about their philosophy, and I knew this was the place for my relative. He was at the Chicago location and our whole… family couldn't be happier with his treatment. It was much better than we ever anticipated. He met weekly with his therapist and psychiatrist. He is a different person than he was when he went in a few months ago. He is happier and in a better place then he has been for the past few years. Please reach out to SunCloud if you have a family member or friend that in need of treatment. It really helped our family and I feel it can help yours too.
Suncloud takes in folks with addictions, mental health issues, and eating disorders. While these conditions share many characteristics and are often comorbid, as someone who was going through a severe major depressive… episode without an addiction or eating disorder, I found a significant amount of the programming did not directly apply to me. In retrospect, I wish I had gone to a program that was tailored specifically for depression. The following describes the structure of suncloud and some of my experience: At suncloud, you will be given a treatment coordinator you meet once a week and a psychiatrist you meet once a week. The rest of the time you will spend here is in group therapy, which is process therapy in the morning and other group therapy modalities in the afternoon. Also, once a week a speaker comes in from an anonymous society (usually AA) to share their journey, which I usually found inspiring. During process therapy - my favorite part of suncloud - patients talk about their issues. It was quite fascinating and moving to be around folks laying their lives bare. Process lasts 2 hours and groups are typically of 10 - 12 people and are led by a treatment coordinator. While I was at suncloud, it became abundantly clear to many patients that process was inequitable. Across the process groups, patients were noticing that a minority of other patients were using the vast majority of process time. Patients pointed this out and became vocal about it. In return, staff encouraged us to monitor and manage the space ourselves, which was frustrating. The non-process programming often focused on addiction. When I pointed out to my treatment coordinator that much of the content did not seem relevant to me, they advised me to disengage during that programming and read over more relevant worksheets or workbooks I had brought for myself.
A friend of mine is currently in a program at SunCloud. I was worried about her prior to treatment. She was making a lot of choices that were hurting herself and those around her. She entered SunCloud a few months ago,… and the changes I’ve already seen have made all the difference in the world. She has stopped drinking, attends weekly meetings, and is working on improving her relationship with her family. Thanks to all the people at SunCloud, I can now see that version of my friend I had a few years back. SunCloud saved my friend’s life and our friendship.
Thoroughly trust Suncloud and their staff, both personally and professionally. With my own family as well as our clients. Highly recommended for those seeking help.
SunCloud is an amazing resource for families. The intake is knowledgable and friendly and the staff is fantastic with communication. Our school refers to SunCloud frequently and we are appreciative to have such a… trusted resource and partner in support of the community. They really do save lives there!
The process of finding a reliable program for a loved one is very overwhelming. Fortunately, I was able to connect with the intake department and they were extremely kind and communicative so the process was quick which… I as helpful for my family. We decided on PHP and IOP in Lincoln Park. Our family is thankful for the experience and support of the staff.
