Wilkes Barre VAMC – Wilkes Barre Detox and Rehab Services
Wilkes Barre VAMC – Wilkes Barre appears on the register for intensive outpatient and outpatient care. Sessions follow a set timetable while people keep living at home. Anyone unsure which level fits should ask for an assessment rather than choosing from a list, since placement criteria exist precisely to make that judgement.
Mental health and substance use are handled together rather than in sequence. It is worth asking how many hours a week the program runs, because that decides whether it fits around everything else.

Well my family doctor there dr KARMI , had me walking around with a bad hip , bone on bone for a year and half , WARMING if she's your doctor , get a new family doctor there , then orthopedics pawn me off to geisinger… hospital under doctor Murphy ( GREAT DOCTOR ) HES A 10 , DR KARMI 0 , MY hip was so bad my femur cracked during the operation, and then got infected 2 weeks later , so I have a cracked femur , also infected , autoimmune arthritis in my lower spine , and dr kamri wouldn't prescribe me Vicodin because I was in so much pain , she told me to take ibuprofen , knowing I was vancomycles threw a PIC LINE in my chest , these to things together are very harsh on your kidneys , the pain and suffering I went through the last 2 months was unbearable , and this is how we treat people that served and protected our country , this is disgusting behavior also no respect nor morals
I have OUTSTANDING Dr's, EVERY SINGLE person, from workers, nurses, aides, Dr's ARE FANTASTIC! I had an AWESOME Primary Dr. (Dr Sandra Balas who sadly resigned in August 2-25 and since, I had 2 of the MOST ARROGANT… disrespectful MISERABLE Dr's I've ever encountered, but now I have Dr Rutkowski and I am THRILLED! Genuine man, straight forward, treats me with respect, listens and seems to be my "forever" VA Primary, I HOPE! The Pain Management team is 2nd to none, and I sincerely mean that! I am a SEVERE chronic pain patient, with SEVERE spinal destruction, 24/7/365"headaches" (no one, including the best headache specialists around has a CLUE!) but the pain mgmt TEAM (it is a TEAM!) is sincerely THE BEST I've been treated by, something I am kind of an expert in since life as i once knew it came to an INSTANT end on Jan 18, 2004. EVERYONE I deal with is PROFESSIONAL, and I don't have ONE Dr/therapist I dislike! My lone complaint is the ****** n charge of the ER downright REFUSES to treat my "headaches" (seen the best, no known cause, no cure, requires IV pain meds when oral ones fail to work which is when it reaches or exceeds/8/10 and HE IS ALLOWED TO! Calling my Congressman, Patient Advocate (told me to leave him alone" "I'm a waste of his time" (because I called my Senator!) but I've been REPEATEDLY REFUSED TREATMENT, given a Tylenol, icepack and LITERALLY thrown out. OK, I have ONE other complaint....the Adminstration side? When you find a DEDICATED person, they will bend over backwards for you but without that? WOW! WHAT A NIGHTMARE, especially as a new to the VA person. My advice to every veteran, retiree, disabled veteran is this: GO! You will be SHOCLED at the professionalism, the abilities, and the fact that the people you MOST NEED to rely on, GENUINELY do everything they can to make SUIRE you get EVERYTHING you need. Everyone from the therapists to the pharmacists TRULY CARE, and not going due to hearing "horror stories" is REALLY causing you to miss out on MOST OF YOUR CARE being handled by some of the BEST Dr's/people I've encountered in over 22 years as a disabled veteran! You will not regret this!
I went to the ER last year with a severe infection. The doctor was in my room for a total of 5 minutes before calling it a bug bite and sending me home. 48 hours later I was back and had to have surgery to remove the… infection. I made the mistake of going back for an issue tonight and had my concerns were completely dismissed. After getting x-rays of my chest, even though that’s not what I went in for, I was laughed at for voicing my concerns about my treatment. The doctor ordered a shot for the pain and I was not given any other information after that. When the nurse came in to give me the shot she was incredibly rude speaking down to me as if I didn’t understand simply because I asked for a patient advocate and had zero compassion about the pain I was in or the fact the shot made the pain even worse. This was around shift change I’m guessing because the nurse was leaving as I walked to the car. These people prioritize going home over caring for their patients. I do not recommend getting treated here at all.
Went in for updated ID card as a walk-in. Got right in and out in a flash. Card processed but told I have to wait for it in the mail. Facility exceptionally clean as I toured sections of the building including museum… and canteen. All staff very friendly and helpful. Everybody I walked by said good morning. Something that's unheard of these days. Museum very honorable and amazing.
Dont wast your time going here i have been in the icu for 18hr and still havent had a doc come and tell me whats going on or what the plain is and give you food you cant eat due to food allergy and my ibs so havent ate… anything yet while here and have to have a nurse call the doc to find out what my test showed that were done 12hr ago
Yeah!
I believe she’s a ER Nurse her name is Deb with a Dora the explorer haircut blonde hair. She is the most incompetent person I’ve ever came across in my life. Stuck me 8 times still didn’t find anything.
Good professional service here
Dear Truck driver That’s easy Entry Just Follow my Google map Picture!!
The mental health professionals at the Wilkes Barre VA are absolutely amazing! The VA has helped to save my life through the care I recieve. Please let them help you too!
Easy access for donations drop off. The volunteer office accepts hand made items for their patients. Port pillows are always in need at almost every hospital. I emailed ahead of the drop off at a scheduled time for a… brief meeting. The office will email the donation form to itemize the process.
I would like to thank Beth for her warm professional energy......Very compelling and positive
Well I haven't been treated afte this facility yet by I probably give then a Thank you .
Helped me get my 100%
Good experience
Full of very kind compassionate individuals that truly want to make sure you’re okay. I had wonderful providers that avidly listened to me. There was also very kind older veterans as well that helped direct me because… it was my first time there.
Worst experience of my life. I went it to the emergency room because I was having medical issues. When I first arrived I met with the doctor who made it very clear he didn't want to be there. When I told him what was… wrong he rolled his eyes. Then he got up and left the room,no explanation of what was going to go on. Mean while the staff were out at the nursing station screaming and yelling very loudly at the football game. Then nurse finally came in and put a port in my hand, very aggressively and took some blood. She didn't say one word to me. They then took me for a cat scan, after I was done the brought me back to the room . They never hooked me back up to the machines. The bells were going off for over a hour. Shift change happened and the new nurse finally came in and said the are discharging you. I said is no buddy even going to explain to me what they found or what is going on with me. He responded with if the doctor felt the need to talk to you he would have. He then left and so I began to get dressed. The doctor finally came in and the only thing he said was talk to your primary. I'm am completely done with the VA and the horrible care. I'm a 100 percent disabled veteran and I can't get the VA to fix anything all they do is just add a new medication. I firmly believe the VA wants you to die so they don't have to take care you anymore. It has been this way with every doctor I have seen up here at the Wilkes-Barre VA
They have turned the VA experience, GREAT and top quality and care thank you for helping veterans like me and care❤️❤️❤️
It's not just a hospital, it's my community.
Great Staff, Great Nurses and Great Doctors
I would give Doctor Linda McDonnaugh ten stars if I could. She and her staff of nurses have always treated me with tremendous kindness and compassion. Her warm demeanor and gentle heart are undeniable. The VA hospital… and her patients are fortunate to receive her care.
Good people
My Dad is almost 84 and I don’t live in the area. They have taken care of him exceptionally from a home health nursing, PT, making sure he has his correct medication, ensuring the safety of his home, getting him to and… from appointments and keeping me informed every step of the way. This has made me feel at ease. I’m very appreciative of the VA. Thank you 💗
