About Kambu Health – Ipswich
Kambu Health runs a clinic at Roderick Street in central Ipswich as part of an Aboriginal community-controlled health service covering Ipswich and the West Moreton region. Free alcohol and other drug counselling and family support are available there to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with no referral needed.
The organisation’s wider work is prevention-focused and culturally appropriate health care for individuals and families at every stage of life, which means alcohol and drug counselling sits beside general primary care rather than standing apart from it. The Ipswich clinic keeps long hours, weekdays from 7:00am to 7:00pm and Saturdays from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and can be reached on (07) 3810 3000.

Kambu Health Counselling Services
Counselling is what Kambu Health offers at Ipswich for alcohol and other drug concerns: individual sessions and family therapy, provided free and without a referral to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. A family programme is listed alongside the counselling as part of the same support.
Nothing in the research points to withdrawal management, prescribing, group programmes or a rehabilitation stay at this clinic, and no specific substances or assessment tools are named. The counselling team is the right place to ask what sessions cover and which services they work with when more intensive treatment is needed.

Kambu Health Reviews
Reviews of Kambu Health from around the web are limited where the alcohol and drug counselling service is concerned, and general comment about the Ipswich clinic usually covers primary care instead. RehabSeekers hosts reviews, and anyone who has had counselling at Roderick Street is welcome to write one.
Useful detail would include how quickly a first counselling appointment came up, whether the long weekday hours made attending easier around work, and how the family support worked when relatives were brought in. Accounts from family members are as welcome as those from clients themselves.
Today my wife and I attended an appointment for myself, which was our fist time at this practice,We found the service to be respectful, professional, and organised. I seen Dr Anthony Bates who was very knowledgeable,… with a professional and caring bed side manner. The girl at reception was very helpful, she even asked my wife and I if we would like a cuppa tea,or coffee, while we were waiting. We will be returning again in the future. Thanks you mob! Today the 25/03/2026 I had an appointment with Dr Dover, he is a great Dr, who actually listens to his patients, and understands the struggles that we all face. He doesn’t just give u medication for the sake of it because u think u need it, he assesses your health thoroughly. And while I was Sitting in the waiting room waiting for the doctor,I spoke to a real caring person named Faith who was the receptionist, she was kind, caring, and she couldn’t do enough to help me. Thankyou for your professionalism, it means a lot to us mob😇
The Doctor is very knowledgeable.I highly recommend this place.
Kambu offered a kids health care check up at Karalee state school, I booked my littles ones in for it, the doctor was going to subscribe an ointment for an issue he had, but never did, it was pretty rushed that day as… it was a first time at that school so I had patients and trusted the process.. 2 days later still no script had come through, so I called, they said they would send it through by the end of the day, end of the day comes I get a text for an appointment but no escript. So I call again they say oh no don't worry about coming in for that it's just that the doctor put it in her calendar to remind her to do the script, but you don't have to come in. Mind you that appointment/reminder was for a few days later.. it has now been well over a month I still have heard or received anything.. As a white mother to 2 indigenous children, I try to support their culture as much as possible but unless I take my children to any indigenous organisation with another indigenous family member, these organisations just don't care.. my children didn't choose to have a white mum and a black dad, but the organisation is make it real hard for them to be accepted just because their mother is white.. It honestly makes me sad to see how many cultural things my children have to miss out on whether it's a simple doctors helo or a sporting opportunity just because they have a white mother. Response update- Thank you I would appreciate that, and I am looking forward to your call.
This place doesn't even deserve a star. We travel to come here just to be told my sons appointment has been cancelled no notifications or anyone letting me know until we got there. Also get mucked around so much with… appointments avoid this place completely it's not worth it.
Yep , final straw yesterday with this place, waited 5 weeks for an appointment, finally got there to be told cancelled again. And then can't get another appointment until another 3 weeks, when you're in pain it's just… not good enough. Looking for a new Dr.
Great Doctors Surgery, Friendly Staff. I believe it does need better Doctors though who are more understanding and take the time to actually listen to your medical issues.. The doctor/patient care is the only issue
If i could i would give 0 stars, waiting over 45mins and watching serveral ppl walk in and out and it wasn’t busy either. Useless all round can see why people dont go to the doctors ect!.
Waited hours for a booked appointment. Highly sugest to use the walkin method. Doctors always run late here but receptionist will tell you there running on time!
I love the people but I have been trying to get in for over 4 weeks now and keep getting phone calls the afternoon before saying that the doctor I am trying to see is unavalable on the day of my appointment.
I don’t come in very often but I must admit when I’ve been in to see the dr I am greeted so politely and helpful by a young lady Ashleigh so friendly and smiling everytime I see her. I’m also so very stoked to have dr… Liz she is a phenomenal dr I’m blessed 😇 With staff like both these ladies you can’t go wrong 🙏🏼
Dentist stuff was absolutely amazing today and so helpful as I came in by myself with two little ones! I know it was difficult but they were so patient and so understanding! Couldn’t say thank you enough but I’ll say it… again thank you!!🙏🏻
Telephone manners need to be corrected with a few of the staff members. There is no need to speak to people as if they are stupid and when asked to stop, they continue speaking in such a manner. Disappointing and… disgusting behaviour. I understand a hard and busy day but there is no need for it!! Respect for the elders
Absolute Garbage!!! How the mighty have fallen!!! Show up 1 hour early for your appointment only to be seen 1 hour after your appointment time. If you bother to wait or aren't that busy. Uncle Les Davidson would be… disgusted with how they're dishonouring his name!
Do not see Dr Rudra and do not go here for mental health related issues! Forms will be lied on, incorrectly completed and left with blanks! They do not care if this impacts your ability to get payments to enable you to… live. There was zero empathy when I received a call after leaving a complaint. My complaint was referred to as feedback. All I was offered was a new appointment, with no guarantee the form I needed completed will be completed properly. So disappointed and this has impacted my life negatively in such extreme circumstances. I am so disappointed.
The paediatric nurse shontae, was no help at all. She rambled on about something irrelevant. I was disappointed as I have a child that is suffering.
Great doctors great service. Friendly staff
Don't bother make appointments earlier for transport get ready for there not to be one booked or cancelled happend multiple times for special needs kids than they don't cooperate to get you an app they say oh none… available fully booked well Susan that's why I booked it 2weeks in advance with transport absolutely ridiculous service an they don't care if your a common customer this has happened to me more that 10 times there ped also doesn't like to diagnose kids correctly or refuse to when clear asd is present ridiculous worst service ever I do not have time to rush around an get ready as single mum of 4 to be told my app cancelled or doesn't exzist
Imagine booking your appointment at 1 and still not getting in an hour after. First time coming here and never waited so long just to see a doctor. everyone who came in after me has been seen like ive been forgotten… about. Very sad service, and miserable looking admins
Save your time go private. Book an appointment months in advance for them to turn around a day prior and say there is suddenly nothing. It's a wonder why harm rates are so high when people try & get help & clinics like… such treat patients like this.
Kambu has gone down hill rapidly since the new regime took control. Trying to get an appointment with my doctor is almost impossible and when I got to see a doctor I was denied the pain killers I've been on for several… years. Also the language barrier with the doctor was pathetic. The rest of the staff are fantastic and really do their best to look after mob.
