About Matrix Day Program
Matrix Day Program is an intensive outreach day programme run by Karralika Programs at Deakin in the Australian Capital Territory, for adults using stimulants such as methamphetamine and cocaine. The programme covers 32 session topics across 16 weeks, accepts self-referral and charges no fees.
A lived-experience peer mentor and an alcohol and other drug counsellor work alongside each participant, with individual counselling and links into 12-step and mutual self-help groups. No referral is needed, though GPs and services including Uniting, DCJ and CYPS also refer. The programme is non-residential, so you attend sessions at 2 Napier Close and return home. Enquiries go to (02) 6185 1300.

Matrix Day Program Alcohol and Drug Services
Matrix Day Program offers a day programme, intensive outpatient support, individual counselling and aftercare for stimulant and polysubstance use, with methamphetamine and cocaine named specifically. Thirty-two session topics run over 16 weeks, pairing group content with one-to-one counselling and peer support from a mentor with lived experience.
Twelve-step and mutual self-help integration is part of the model, and aftercare follows the 16-week block. Participants sleep at home throughout, since the programme is non-residential, and no withdrawal management is listed here; anyone needing medical withdrawal first would be directed elsewhere. Medications, dual diagnosis support and formal assessment tools are not listed for this programme.

Matrix Day Program Reviews
Public reviews of Matrix Day Program from around the web are limited, partly because the programme sits within a larger Karralika Programs service offering. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for this day programme, and anyone who has worked through the 16-week block at Deakin is invited to share their experience.
Stimulant-focused day programmes are not common, so first-hand accounts matter more than usual here. Notes on the pace of the 32 topics, how much the peer mentor contributed, and whether the counselling held up alongside work or study would give the next reader something concrete to weigh.
I don't even know where to begin because I don't think words will ever truly explain how grateful I am for Karralika. This place saved my life and helped me to navigate DCJ and thanks to them I'm the mother my children… always deserved. It is hard, there will be people there that don't want to be there, but if you genuinely want recovery, this place will help you find it, if you're willing. I was completely lost. I had no idea who I was anymore, and I honestly didn't think I was ever going to have the life I have today. I never thought I could become someone I was actually proud of. The Therapeutic Community challenged me in ways I never expected. Some days were really hard, but every hard day was worth it because it helped me grow. I learnt so much about myself, why I used, what I needed to change, and how to start living instead of just surviving. The support from the staff was something I'll never forget. They saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself. They kept believing in me until I finally started believing in myself too. They were there through the good days, the hard days, and everything in between, and I honestly can't thank them enough. Moving into the Transitional Housing Program gave me the chance to put everything I'd learnt into practice while still knowing I had people beside me. It gave me confidence, independence, and hope for my future. Karralika didn't just help me get clean. It gave me my life back. It helped me find myself again. Today I genuinely love the person I'm becoming, and that's something I never thought I'd be able to say. I'll never be able to thank everyone enough for everything they've done for me. Karralika will always hold a special place in my heart because it's where I became the version of myself I always deserved to be. Thank you for never giving up on me. I'll carry what I've learnt with me for the rest of my life. I will be forever grateful!! 🩷🩷 Thankyou so much
Easily the worst rehab I have been to. Weird rules and language. Staff too scared to confront or go against the louder more manipulative members of the T.C. Particularly if those members have passed whatever ridiculous… phase of the program. It was VERY interesting watching that dynamic play out - particularly when those same bully members who the staff thought were so wonderful were not following the same rules but bullying newer members with… Be prepared to be sold on staying for a year or more. Be prepared for the place feeling like a cult. Be prepared for the majority of staff to have certificate level qualifications. Be prepared for accomodation that needed knocking down 15 years ago. Be prepared, (if you’re male) to share a room with 4 other adult men, a single bed each and in bed at night to be able to put both arms out to your sides and be touching the bloke next to you’s bed. Be prepared for the ‘program’ to consist of one group a day, (appx 1 hour) talking about a worksheet. Be prepared to sit up in the main building from 8am - 9pm at night… with literally nothing to do, you aren’t allowed to read anything other than ‘recovery related material’, you get 1 hour of tv a day… you do the same repetitive clean up jobs everyday, 2 times a day… honestly the main, ‘program’ is being forced to go to AA or NA groups which have nothing to do with the rehab, it’s just free, ‘program’ for the rehab and doesn’t take into account the local AA or NA groups that might not want 13 rehab people turning up to their meeting when the people from the rehab don’t even want to be there… Anyway, as you can see I hated my time there. The majority of people I know who’ve been through it relapsed which is part of the game but why put yourself through 12+ months of psychological abuse for that result… go to Arcadia instead, seems heaps nicer.
Michael Leo. karralika has to be the best long term rehab I’ve ever been to, it’s been well over 16 Years since my experience but nightly check ins every night, art therapy, boot camp was amazing, trips away… snowboarding and caving were some of my fondest experiences, but doing my shield was one of my most memorable experiences, I’m still in contact with old friends from my Karralika experience and have been clean for 15 years, I was able to help my beautiful mother through cancer treatment only because I was clean, she passed but recovery gave me empathy and strength to take care of her, Karralika also gave me education in cooking and horticulture, I now work in landscaping because of that. I have a son and two grandchildren because I learned how to live through Karralika. Much love to Geff and Kim.
They are great the first time or second time you need help but when your financially dependant on an abusive partner and constantly relapsing they wont help you detox at home so many times (they said i cant keep using… this service) (they have also told me to find an expensive luxury rehab) which me and my partner don’t exactly have the funds for! and its hard for me as Im stuck in this situation as a disabled person USING and i cant find anywhere to help me detox at home. (The detox unit does not take in people for methamphetamines unless you have a rehab in place) no rehab will accept me due to my chronic fatigue - the system is totally broken ):
Wow if never found the words.. but boot camp really sums it up. It was diving m shocking, I've been to alot of rehabs for mental health and alcohol dependence. But this was so unnecessarily harsh. Literally mean… spirited like you're a maggot in the marines. I think I lasted a week and had to leave back to Sydney. I hated it so much, I couldn't say enough about how poorly they treat people.
Caution this organisation can be very harmful to addicts. My friend went there and they persecuted him until he failed in life. This is a BOOTCAMP not a modern rehab. If you cant take orders and march in line and NEVER… EVER slip up then MAYBE this place is ok for you. If not BEWARE they will destroy you.
