Centro de Respostas Integradas de Aveiro is the public outpatient addiction service for twelve municipalities of Aveiro district, run by ICAD, I.P. within the SNS. Formerly the Centro de Atendimento a Toxicodependentes, the service has been running for around thirty years and was following more than a thousand individuals in early 2025, according to its coordinator, Emídio Abrantes. Its teams cover treatment, prevention, harm reduction and reintegration, and treat dependence on licit and illicit psychoactive substances as well as non-substance addictions such as gambling and problematic internet or screen use. The catchment is Águeda, Albergaria-a-Velha, Anadia, Aveiro, Estarreja, Ílhavo, Mealhada, Murtosa, Oliveira do Bairro, Ovar, Sever do Vouga and Vagos. Contact is by phone or email to ask for an appointment; nobody stays on site.

Centro de Respostas Integradas de Aveiro Alcohol and Drug Services

The youth consultation, CAJ de Aveiro, is held at the IPDJ on Rua das Pombas on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 09:30 to 16:30 and covers the same twelve municipalities as the adult service. Where outpatient care is not enough, the team refers onward to detox units and therapeutic communities in the public network.

The staff at the São Bernardo CRI (Center for Rehabilitation and Information) and the people in the secretariat there are a complete disgrace, as I send emails there daily and they don't respond... that's why healthcare… in Portugal is in the state it's in.
