The hospital states plainly that it does not run a dedicated detoxification, residential or medication-assisted addiction programme.

How Much Does Treatment at Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira Cost?
Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira is a private, self-pay hospital, so no public health system route applies. As it doesn’t run a residential or detoxification programme, only outpatient figures are relevant here: private outpatient addiction support in the Algarve is typically quoted around €700–€2,300 (£600–£2,000) a month, though the hospital’s own consultation fees may differ from that broader market estimate.
Contact the hospital directly for a firm quote, and ask what’s included in a course of psychiatry appointments and how it would refer you on if detoxification or residential care were needed.

Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira Reviews
Anyone who has been treated by, or referred a family member to, Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira’s psychiatry service is encouraged to add a review, to help others in the Algarve weighing up their options.
Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira is registered with Portugal’s Entidade Reguladora da Saúde (ERS). As it doesn’t run a dedicated detox or residential programme, it’s worth asking directly what its outpatient consultations cover and how referral to further addiction-specific care would work.
And on top of that, they're unfriendly! Despite the emergency room being completely empty, even in clearly life-threatening emergencies, an inappropriate triage process is carried out, prioritizing payment above all… else. No help is given to the nearly unconscious patient until you put your credit card or cash on the table. The patient can die while the payment details are sorted out. And after the first incorrect treatment—namely, an enema for a ruptured appendix—it's decided after four hours that the patient needs to go to the university hospital in Faro for emergency surgery anyway, because the necessary diagnostic and treatment methods are lacking here. It would be better to go there directly to save time and, in turn, save lives. Never again Lusíadas Albufeira!
Giving one star because I can't give zero. I went to the emergency room with my 8-month-old baby, who had a fever of over 39 degrees Celsius, and the receptionist at the front of the completely empty emergency room… refused to even admit my daughter, saying that the doctor on duty doesn't treat children. He said that if I wanted someone to see my daughter, a baby with a high fever, I would have to wait. And this is a private hospital, where we pay a lot for insurance.
Reception was absolutely shocking, have never experienced such am attitude from someone you are paying for a service
These 5 stars are for Catarina in the phlebotomy/bloodwork department. She is fantastic!! I have a fear of needles and hard-to-find veins (what a nice combo, right? 😁) and she was a pro at making my blood draw as… painless and easy as possible. :)
The nurses and doctors present treated me correctly and kindly. The people at the reception desk, on the other hand, were unworthy of a private hospital – very unfriendly and unhelpful towards foreigners who have no… idea how the hospital operates. It is a shame, because that is where the experience begins and ends.
Arrived at 12:40 for an ophthalmology appointment at 13:00, seen by a doctor at 14:20. We had two appointments, one for me and the other for my husband who has advanced Alzheimer's, so it was impossible to attend both… dates. My husband is the priority. By the time I paid, it was 14:44. We'll go to the public system; if we have to wait, it might as well be free!
We've been to the clinic twice already, including our children. We were all treated wonderfully and taken seriously. We're certain that if we have any further problems, we'll go there again.
Terrible service. It takes over 30 minutes to get through to them. Once you answer, they transfer you from one person to another. It takes almost a whole morning to speak to these people. Very bad. Even the first time… they answered, after more than 20 minutes of waiting, the employee Ana Loureiro, poor thing, couldn't hear me, or rather, didn't want to hear... On the second call, the employee could hear me perfectly. No comment.
Very disappointing billing experience. My son was treated for a fractured finger. We were charged €100 for the initial consultation, €110 for orthopaedics, €46 for the X-ray, and €115 for the “immobilisation” shown in… the photo — two simple strips of tape used to secure the fingers together. Total: €371. I have requested a detailed explanation of these charges from the hospital. Tourists should be very cautious when using this clinic. My complaint remains unresolved despite their generic responses. I will continue formally disputing this matter through the competent authorities and, if necessary, through legal action.
Went for a scan for my thumb, was quoted €98 on the phone. Couldn't get an appointment locally in Portimao so had to travel 40 minutes to this hospital. Was scanned only and the exam took between 2 and 3 minutes. Came… out and the bill was for €272! There were a total of 4 items on the bill rather than just one! Looks like the radiographer is in collusion with the hospital to rip off people with foreign names, Beware! Then, the report came by email, totally useless! Had to phone them and ask for a written report which arrived, another fictitious number like their invoice! Avoid this hospital like the plague! Go to another one even if you have to travel long distance! They are SICK themselves and need to be examined by the relevant medical authorities. No wonder most of the reviews they get are 1 out of 5! Here's another one for them to digest and self-exam to see where they are going wrong! When I complained on their website complaints section they emailed me asking if I needed another appointment??? So, received an immediate auutomated, mechanical and expected reply, the usual one large companies send to fob off irritating customers! No question of a sincere apology, a refund or a human response!!! The usual- fob them off and they will go away! Don't bury your head in the sand guys, show respect towards your disgruntled clients and they might forgive and forget and tell others how well you have behaved! Start with a refund cheque!
Terrible service and a completely frustrating experience at Lusíadas Albufeira Hospital. I went to the emergency room in a very weak state of health and was given a green wristband, which, according to the information… provided, corresponds to a waiting time of up to 120 minutes. However, I ended up being seen more than 3 hours later. I perfectly understand that there may be priority situations and variable waiting times, but a wait of more than 3 hours, after paying a very high price for private care, is simply unacceptable. What is most incomprehensible is that, during my wait, there was only one consulting room operating, which helps to understand the extent of the delay. In the end, the experience ends up being similar to what one would expect to find in a public hospital, but with the difference of paying — and quite a lot — for a private service. When someone goes to an emergency room, especially feeling very unwell, they expect at least adequate care and waiting times that are minimally compatible with the service they are paying for. A very disappointing experience that will certainly make me think twice before returning.
Useless pediatric emergency service! Even arriving half an hour before the scheduled time (due to misinformation from a quick internet search), after 20 minutes we were informed that the doctor would only arrive after… 10 am, that is, 1 hour after opening time. I reiterate that this is a pediatric emergency service!!
A very pleasant welcome and consistently friendly staff. The procedures were clear and professional, and the triage was well-organized. Hygiene was absolutely impeccable, and treatment was quick and efficient.… Communication in English was also excellent. Overall, a very positive impression – competent, friendly, and extremely well-organized.
During our holiday, my son developed a rash that started getting bigger day by day. We therefore went to the hospital. The lady at the reception was very kind and professional. She explained everything to us, including… how much we would have to pay and the rules and procedures at the hospital. Everything went quickly and smoothly, without any problems
With Multicare health insurance, for an emergency room visit that only included a medical consultation without any tests, the price charged was €80, when a few months ago I paid €40 for the same service at the same… place. Does summer also affect healthcare in the Algarve?! A medical consultation where the only thing done was to shine a mobile phone flashlight in my mouth and prescribe an antibiotic completely unsuitable for my illness?! Madam Minister of Health, if you visited the Algarve hospitals and think everything is fine, I don't even know what to say... It's sad that currently, between public and private hospitals, the Algarve DOES NOT HAVE A SINGLE COMPETENT HOSPITAL.
At least our experience was quite good. We went to the emergency room with our son, who had a fever and sore throat, and after spending more than four hours the previous day in the emergency room of the nearby public… health center, we were seen here in just one hour. At least from our perspective, we can recommend it.
Terrible service. The emergency room receptionist was extremely arrogant and unprofessional. The wait is, on average, 5 hours. I definitely recommend the Albufeira Public Hospital, which I consider far superior to the… Lusíadas Hospital in Albufeira. As a private hospital, the service they provide is shameful.
Terrible! Stay away from this hospital! The emergency staff were shockingly rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. I’ve never been treated with such disrespect. One relatively young man wearing glasses was… especially unacceptable. This was one of the worst healthcare experiences I’ve ever had. I would never recommend this hospital. They should be fired! I started to read the reviews… after 3 hours sitting at waiting room!
Unfortunately, I have a complaint about the service provided at the Albufeira unit. I had an appointment on July 24th, and on that day the general system was unavailable, so I left the appointment with a prescription in… an old, non-digital paper format. The problem is that the prescribed medications needed to be separated due to prescription retention and also because of the quantities indicated by the pharmacy. I returned to the Hospital requesting the separation of the medications and/or their inclusion in the digital system. They refused to do so because the doctor was not there, because another doctor wouldn't do it, and because the pharmacy was responsible for finding a solution. I returned to the pharmacy, and they also couldn't sell part of the medications because it would close the prescription, and I couldn't use it to buy the other medications. In short, it's a bureaucracy that the Hospital should already be aware of and that should already have resolution protocols for these problems, instead of making the patient go from one place to another to find a solution, which in my case meant giving up the co-payment discount for the medication and paying more to avoid having the prescription completely retained. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the lack of process management and knowledge of basic administrative protocols related to healthcare, which resulted in unnecessary expenses for travel and payments.
Terrible (administrative) service! Huge numbers of people waiting regardless of the time of year! To request a simple justification of attendance, you have to take a general number and wait an immense amount of time… (when it could be obtained from the ticket machine, similar to what happens in other hospitals), the same thing for payment…! The telephone customer support service is nonexistent, as it's answered by the "virtual assistant" and when you finally manage to get through to a "human operator," nobody answers! The WhatsApp customer service is equally terrible…. I've been trying to resolve a pending issue from 2 months ago for 2 days (on WhatsApp) because I simply can't get through to anyone, and the resolution here is going the same way… they don't resolve it! They don't answer emails…! Terrible, terrible, terrible indeed!!! Situations that are so simple and could be resolved in moments (traditional telephone service, more options on the ticket machine) become so complicated and cumbersome that they tire and wear down the user, leading them to consider, if planning their choice, another institution with less "bureaucracy" or a better response to "administrative processes"!
I share my dissatisfaction with the service not provided. They advertise a permanent 24-hour emergency service, and the two doctors on duty refuse to see a child with an earache at 7 pm. Very bad for a private hospital… that promotes the best service in medical care.
It's impossible to contact them by phone. The website is outdated and the number doesn't work. The AI application suggests a Lisbon number, which also doesn't work. I tried the WhatsApp number, which also doesn't… work. All this just to schedule an exam. I'm giving up and going to another organization. In the past, I even sent an email that went unanswered and wasn't even forwarded to the doctor. It's a complete lack of consideration for what they call a "patient," who is actually a "client."
We had to go to the hospital yesterday because I twisted my ankle and couldn't walk. The entire process was smooth and involved minimal waiting time. I had two consultations with doctors and an X-ray within 40 minutes.… All the staff were very friendly and always helpful. A very well-organized clinic. Our hospitals in Germany could learn a thing or two here about process efficiency. The price was also perfectly reasonable. Thank you for the quick help! Update: After a month and despite email contact, I still haven't received an invoice. Our lawyer is now taking legal action against you.
Very disappointed with this private hospital. I had two consultations for knee pain following a sudden movement. The doctor didn't even get up from his chair to examine my knee, just to treat the pain. I was prescribed… Voltaren, which I bought at the pharmacy without a prescription. I requested an ultrasound at the first hospital appointment, but the person in charge started with my left knee and finished with my right. I had to point out that it was my left knee and why she was doing the right one. The ultrasound showed a cyst, but at the next consultation, they prescribed no medication and said there was nothing to be done. Two days later, I ended up in the emergency room because of severe pain that made me fall. This time, the doctor took the time to examine my knee from the front. They prescribed medication for the pain, but it's still not cured, and I've been suffering ever since. I'm disappointed with this private hospital, which is right across the street from my house.
Today I went to the Emergency Department for a pediatric appointment for my daughter. The staff were very kind, especially towards my daughter, playing with her and making her feel comfortable. In total we were in the… department for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, which seemed perfectly reasonable to me since it wasn't an "emergency". Thank you.
Terrible… a man with an extremely unpleasant, racist reception. I politely asked him if he spoke French… he replied no, that he was Portuguese. I told him I spoke a little English… He replied that this was Portugal and… I had to speak Portuguese if I wanted to be examined… what an idiot!!!! In conclusion, I went to CUF Faro: very kind and they treated my phlebitis, which Luisiadas didn't even bother to examine!!!!!
I visited on Friday night alliteration only arriving on Thursday, my daughter had severe ear pain and they were amazing. The price was the same as a doctor visit in a medical centre and they gave her a pain injection… which worked wonders. The nurses and doctor were amazing and I was in and out in 1 hour with top treatment.
