Ramsay Clinic Northside Detox and Rehab Services
Admission is the centre of the offer here: medically supervised, hospital-based detox with round-the-clock nursing and medication management, followed by outpatient appointments and an abstinence-based day programme that runs in two stages, the first on adjusting to life without alcohol or drugs, the second on the emotional issues underneath.
Alcohol and tobacco are the recorded substance focus, and the clinic works with people whose substance use sits alongside depression or anxiety. Group therapy and education on the behavioural and psychological sides of dependence are recorded, with addiction counselling, transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroconvulsive therapy. A prescriber works on site and psychiatric medication is managed in house. Approaches vary by programme and clinician.

How Much Does Treatment at Ramsay Clinic Northside Cost?
No price is published for the clinic, and Australia has no published country range for withdrawal or inpatient hospital care. What is published instead is how an admission is paid for: private health insurance, Department of Veterans’ Affairs cover through a Gold Card or an approved White Card, WorkCover and third-party claims, and self-funded or overseas-insured admissions, where an estimated cost is settled before or on admission.
Because nothing is published, the clinic’s own estimate is the only reliable number. Ask what it covers, whether medical reviews and medication are billed on top, and what happens to the total if the admission runs longer than expected.

Ramsay Clinic Northside Reviews
Ramsay Clinic Northside has a Google Business Profile carrying a substantial body of public reviews. They cover the clinic’s mental health services broadly rather than the addiction programme on its own, so the fairest approach is to read through them directly and form your own view.
Licensing, accreditation and who actually delivers the care tell you more. The clinic operates under NSW Health licensing for private health facilities. When you ring the access line, ask how the addiction programme is staffed and what follow-up is offered after discharge.
Hi Ramsay, I’ve been trying to get in touch, I am desperate for mental health support. Currently waiting to be admitted. I’ve Been through the public mental health (PECC) system before and been dismissed, so I am hoping… that Ramsay will provide better support. I’ve submitted 10+ contact us applications, talked it through with parents who had to go and get HSF insurance involved because this is private health insurance. Really hoping this organisation will not waste my time or cost my parents money. I’ve called you and been told I would receive a callback. I heard of this organisation through a TAFE counsellor who recommended it highly. The paperwork we were told had to be organised and submitted and then it could be an overnight admission. Please don’t make me wait months, Ramsay. Please get in touch. Cecile Aldridge
Extremely Poor Administration and a Complete Lack of Consideration for Patients I am extremely disappointed with the administrative management of this psychiatric clinic. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have… experienced problems with their reception and administrative services. I attended an appointment yesterday, which cost $590. Today, I was suddenly informed that I needed a new GP referral dated on or before yesterday’s appointment. Otherwise, I would be unable to claim my Medicare rebate. What I find completely unacceptable is that nobody informed me beforehand that my referral needed to be renewed. Not during my previous appointment, not by phone, not by email, and not even by a simple reminder message. Surely it is the clinic’s responsibility to check referral requirements and notify patients in advance, rather than informing them AFTER their appointment and leaving them to deal with the consequences. I am now expected to arrange another GP appointment, spend additional time explaining the situation, and ask my GP whether they can issue a referral that meets the required date. There is no guarantee that my GP will be able or willing to do this. Why should patients bear the consequences of the clinic’s poor administration? What makes this particularly upsetting is that this is a psychiatric clinic. Patients attending such a clinic may already be struggling with depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions. The last thing they need is additional stress, uncertainty, and unnecessary administrative burdens caused by the very clinic that is supposed to support them. I find this lack of consideration and professionalism deeply disappointing. A psychiatric clinic should demonstrate a higher standard of care, communication, and sensitivity towards its patients. Unfortunately, my experience has been quite the opposite. Patients deserve better than this.
Terrible experience with Dr Zhuang(Zan) Miao. She is rude and gives me more pressure. That’s the worst doctor I never met.
8 years later still traumatised unsettling experiences with patients I understand I said a few things wrong doctors not realising medication changes already being in a horrible place mentally and just having polar… opposite personalities with most patients I understand I said the wrong thing I’m not excusing myself but at the same time being one of the only guys in a youth ward and having very little in common with the other patients on the ward aswell as experiences a traumatising event I later told my doctor and the head of the hospital and felt like it wasn’t taken that seriously was very frustrating how this place is still operating shocks me thank god they’ve become bankrupt couldn’t of happened to a most devastating business
Three admissions over three years, and I have always been supported at Northside with such care, kindness, diligence and respect. Thank you for making the dark times that bit lighter :) Highly recommended.
⭐☆☆☆☆ My experience at Ramsay Clinic Northside with Dr Miao did not meet my expectations. For my first appointment, the clinic initially confirmed the time by email and later changed it by SMS. I did not see the text… message and arrived 30 minutes late. I was advised that I should have checked my SMS, and I was charged the full consultation fee despite the shortened appointment. At my second appointment, Dr Miao again asked why I had not read the SMS. I explained that I usually pay attention to messages from people I know and had expected appointment changes to continue to be communicated by email. During this discussion, Dr Miao asked whether I had an intellectual problem. As a patient seeking psychiatric care, I expected clear communication and respectful interaction. Based on my experience, I did not feel that my concerns were handled in a manner consistent with those expectations. This was my personal experience.
Dr Howard is excellent, and I’m deeply grateful for the difference her care has made to my mental health. I’ve felt well supported, listened to, and treated with care at every stage. The admin team, especially Chiara &… Nikki, have been accommodating, professional, and genuinely kind throughout. I’m very grateful for the thoroughness, warmth, and professionalism of the whole clinic.
Terrible service today on the phone when consulting the lady doing the initial assessments at approx 2:20pm was very disrespectful and dismissive to the point where she was laughing in my face for asking a simple… admission question and being very hostile/ acting annoyed for no reason. Have a look and review your team who is meant to be assisting PAYING CLIENTS during CRISIS.
This review is for Dr Dillon Cheah. He is an outstanding specialist. Caring, knowledgeable, compassionate and honest. There should be more psychiatrists like you in Australia. Thank you for your care over the years.
I have always had great experiences at this clinic. The eating disorder program is great and the staff are amazing, especially Hazel the nurse. She has gone above and beyond for me and I cannot thank her enough! Highly… recommend this facility for anyone needing mental health support.
I was ghosted by this service, twice in a row. Having sent over my referral letter for Dr Cheah exactly as the receptionist requested, I was told I’d hear back from the service within a week. I rang the clinic again… exactly four weeks later, as I still hadn’t heard back, and I was informed they would get back to me within 24 hours. That was 7 weeks ago and I’ve still had no response. That’s pretty poor for any service provider, but particularly for a provider whose purpose it is to help those in emotional distress. I’m extremely upset about the treatment I’ve received from this clinic.
Sarah Jane Spencer would have to be the biggest time waster of any health professional I’ve ever dealt with. Not once, has she ever been on time for an appointment! Waiting up to 2 hours is NOT okay and the fact that it… happens EVERY TIME is genuinely ridiculous. The fact that I have to pay an extra $200 if I go 20 minutes over time, yet I don’t receive any compensation for the absurd amount of time I spend sitting in that waiting room!? I wouldn’t doubt for a second that she is intentionally stalling appointments to rinse her clients for the most money possible. I should not have to miss my own commitments because she simply just doesn’t respect my time. I’m not reading the same issue of Women’s weekly that’s been sitting there for the last 2 years. Receptionist even made a comment “this happens a lot” when asked how much longer I’d be waiting. You’ve been warned.
I have been to many a clinic. I can’t fault RNS Clinic. Magnificent staff and sessions that teach so much. Your bedroom has a television, private bathroom. The days run quickly, no boredom for me and the food!!!!!!
Saved my child's life. Excellent care. Thank you
Top notch medical and psychological care.

Ramsay Healthcare no compassion , no counsellors on site
Dr Nicole Burston immediately dismissed me potentially having ADHD without a formal assessment and barely knowing my history when I was seeing her. I recently received a formal diagnosis, 3-4 years later as my GP would… occasionally ask if I was willing to go through the assessment. Reading a lot of these reviews, it is apparent that various psychiatrists rule out ADHD and will diagnose their patients with BPD or bipolar, even thought they can all coexist, or they might just be getting misdiagnosed. There's lower ratings for both empathy and compassion than there are higher ones.
this hospital's patients peer pressured me into an extreme nicotine addiction. still can't drop the addiction and it's been 6 years since i've been admitted here. BE VERY CAREFUL and never admit yourself to this… hospital. save yourself and go elsewhere for help.
Dr Pri Wettasinghe diagnosed me with ADHD about three years ago, and it made a huge difference in my life. He was professional, calm, and easy to talk to, which made the whole process feel a lot less daunting. He took… the time to listen and explain things properly, and I never felt rushed or judged. I’m genuinely grateful for his ongoing care and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking help.
northside has always been a safe space for me in recovery and i highly recommend it for people seeking help. in i’m sad reading the reviews and seeing that many patients had negative experiences in the ramsay clinic. i… have been admitted 3 times to the eating disorder unit throughout ages 14-18. although the atmosphere may be tense, it is not the clinics fault. mental illnesses are extremely competitive and northside does everything they possibly can to support the patients. the nurses on level 7 gave me so much comfort and support whilst i was away from everything i know and struggling with an active disorder. they provide beneficial programs for people with active eating disorders. the therapists help you gain insight with your own emotions and adapt new recovery techniques whilst also gaining knowledge from other patients. the activities where inclusive and immersive and allowed people to participate however they feel most comfortable. there is also a massive highlight on sensitivity and assuring their are no comments that can minimise other patients experiences. NURSES JAY, VIC, SALLY and BEC are the most kind and caring beings i’ve met and they deserve so much positive recognition. other nurses did have some dated recovery techniques but to each their own. additionally, Dr Sloane Madden is the best psychiatrist out there. he goes above and beyond for his clients. ( plus the food was yum ) if you are ever considering admitting yourself or a loved one, i highly recommend facility. sending all my love to the entire team and patients.
Lovely experience on Level 3. Staff were helpful and friendly. My consultant was kind and empathetic, and I felt calm and comfortable in his presence. Glad I came here.
Horrifying experience with a nurse on Level 7, Janet. Incredibly disrespectful and condescending.
Wanted to give a shout out to Kim in the reception team. She was very friendly and professional and helped me book an appointment to see a Dr.
Dr Mukherjee is unprofessional practitioner, he will give you wrong medication, doesn't listen to your concerns, simply just wants to take your money, please find someone else who actually can help you.
I couldn’t have asked for better care to get me through stages of deep depression, PTSD, trauma, eating disorder & severe anxiety. The Dr’s & Nurses are their 24/7 & they understand. I owe my life to Ramsey Clinics. The… accommodation is like a hotel & you feel safe knowing they have your back. Thankyou to all Ramsey staff across all of NSW XX
So unprofessional. I’ve been calling since January with the promise of a call back. I finally get in touch with someone in April who tells me they can book me in for May and to send my referral. Sent my referral with no… follow up for a month. Called a few more times with no answers. Finally got an answer and was told they can’t take any more clients and won’t accept me.
