About Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation AOD Program – Smithton
Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation runs a full-time alcohol and other drug programme from 20 King Street in Smithton, in north-west Tasmania, alongside its other health and community work. The programme lists alcohol and other drug assessment, counselling and referral for individuals and families in the Circular Head area.
Youth, Family and Community Connections also delivers alcohol and drug support from the Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation site on Mondays and Wednesdays, which widens what is available locally without anyone having to travel to Burnie. Contact is by phone on (03) 6452 1287. Opening hours, an intake process and the funding position are not set out, so the first call will need to cover those as well.

Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation AOD Program Counselling Services
Assessment and outpatient counselling are the two levels of care listed for the alcohol and other drug programme at Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation, both non-residential. Individual counselling is the named therapy, an intake assessment opens the work, and referral on to other services is part of what the programme offers.
The programme works with individuals and with families, and it sits inside an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisation that also runs health and community programmes, so alcohol and drug support can be picked up alongside other help. Group therapy, withdrawal management, prescribed medications and any rehabilitation stay are not listed here. Youth support is available on site through a visiting service two days a week.

Accounts from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members carry particular weight for readers choosing between a local service and travelling away for support. Useful detail includes how the first assessment went, whether counselling was culturally comfortable, how the referral side worked, and whether the visiting youth and family service added anything on its two days a week.

I was recognized & became a member approximately 5 years ago other than the limited health care section which do a excellent job with what they have, the Main part do not want to know me, I have recently been in touch… with the federal Aboriginal member to ask for a investigation in to CHAC, Because I have No Idea What at least 20 employees do, maybe that is why you don't include people you have something to hide, you will be investigated I promise.
The compassion they hold for all of the Circular Head community has always been a breath of fresh air. Every single employee go out of their way to help anyone that is in need of services no matter who you are. And this… is the of many reasons my family and l will remain in this area.
