How Much Does Treatment at ISoSL – Santé Mentale Cost?
Belgium’s higher-cost market puts residential detoxification broadly in the range of €5,200–€16,000 (£4,500–£14,000), with outpatient and day-programme support typically running from around €1,000–€3,200 (£900–£2,800) up to €5,200–€10,500 (£4,500–£9,000). These are estimates for the area rather than this network’s own rates. Because ISoSL operates within Belgium’s public health system, some of this care may be accessible through the mutualité/ziekenfonds insurance system at reduced or no direct cost, though this depends on residency and insurance status and shouldn’t be assumed by someone visiting from abroad.
For an accurate picture, contact the service directly and ask how referral into the intake service works, what a stay in the detoxification unit involves, and what would be covered through insurance versus paid directly.

ISoSL – Santé Mentale Reviews
If you or someone close to you has been supported by this service, sharing that experience — whether as a patient, a family member who walked alongside someone in treatment, or a professional who has referred into the network — helps others weigh up their options.
Beyond reviews, it’s worth looking at how a service is regulated and staffed, and asking practical questions directly: for a public hospital network like this, a good one is how referral into the addiction intake service actually works and what happens once someone is accepted.
There are 17 courses, so I can't comment on the whole experience. Overall, it was a very positive experience with a well-trained team. The only downside was the rather repetitive food, including the ever-present… cabbage. However, the kitchen staff is capable of providing adapted meals, which is a real achievement. It was through this that I discovered, with the help of the dietician, that I eventually received customized meals.
Because we can't give it a 0!
Because we can't put 0
A psychiatrist I'd never even seen kicked me out. The nurses laugh at the patients, the counselors' door is practically always closed, so if you have a panic attack, you can only rely on the people around you. Some of… the nurses don't even know what hygiene training is. And be aware that there will be times when you won't see your psychiatrist for two weeks, even if you're feeling unwell or sleeping poorly. They have long fake nails that the nurses don't even know how to open the blister packs with. The "poppies" (a psychiatric unit) has activities, while in another building, for example, they just give medication and put people in front of the TV, forgetting about people in isolation, so their medication isn't given at the right time. The searches were so bad that people were bringing in heroin; I find that disgusting. If you have a panic attack, don't count on them. And leaving there, I can tell you that they weren't the ones who helped me in the end. It was mainly psychologists, psychiatrists, and support groups, etc., that helped me, but certainly not little Burgundy 😢
I've been there several times, and each stay is a unique experience. You develop affinities with certain people, whether staff or patients, and sometimes even antagonisms. What's certain is that those who want to get… better will find all the tools they need there. The psychiatrists are competent, even excellent in their field, and it's clear that an alcoholic ordered by a judge to undergo 40 days of observation with detoxification will have a completely different experience than someone with borderline personality disorder suffering from depression or bipolar disorder experiencing a decompensation who arrives voluntarily. Each experience is individual, depending on the type of illness and the patient's willingness to collaborate with the staff to improve their condition. Each stay I've had has had its ups and downs, but I've always left feeling refreshed and ready to work. The one thing that really needs improvement is the food. While I understand the budgetary and dietary constraints that mean we can't eat steak or greasy fries, the food is bland and the menus are repetitive. Sometimes it's as if the kitchens have stockpiled enormous quantities, and we end up eating cabbage three times a week—in soup, as a side dish, and in salad. The same goes for beans. In short, I find there's a serious lack of imagination and flavor. That said, on the plus side, the dieticians' guidelines are followed to the letter, whether it's regarding the diet, restrictions, or allergies. Yes, you can have a vegetarian weight-loss diet, without cabbage, allergies, and yogurt because I don't like it—I tested it for you! So yes, it's a public service, but no, we're not treated like paupers, and the social workers do their best to help in every way.
I went there several times for different reasons. I think it's important to consider the staff's services at the time and our expectations. I was at the day hospital for a week in 2009. I was working and went there… during the school holidays. My grandfather was dying, and the psychiatrist on duty, who is also my psychiatrist, was on vacation. I had been warned, but the team was really there for me. I was at the day hospital resources at the Agora (2011-2012). It didn't go well with the staff; I felt I was too much but not enough. We talked, and I left. I was at the Alizée for 18 months. I had a really hard time; I had very little opportunity to talk, which was part of my treatment plan. I did the Metis program at the day hospital in the Alizés ward. It was intense, but I can only thank them. I learned so much and was able to manage my problematic behaviors. During the holiday season, I was admitted to the Portail day hospital for two or three months. There was a lack of communication between the staff and my psychiatrist, so she suggested I leave and start again as an outpatient. The following week, everything closed due to COVID, but again, I'm grateful to them. Later, I ended up at the Tango day hospital. I wasn't feeling well at all there, couldn't find what I was looking for, emptied my locker, and left. The next day, I had an appointment with the psychiatrist. He was against my discharge because, according to him, I was in crisis. Despite everything, I went out and felt freer outside. But I have a great network of professionals around me, so I didn't leave empty-handed... It's important to understand the nuances; it's not easy. There are rules and care contracts presented to the patient, but explanations are also given.
I'm very disappointed with my son's hospitalization. It's supposed to be a hospital for treatment, but nothing was done; it only made things worse. I didn't even get an explanation. I received a call saying they were… ending his hospitalization because of a serious assault, even though he was admitted for that very reason. The staff didn't even contact me to let me know he was in isolation. Frankly, I advise everyone against putting their teenager in this facility.
They charge for a consultation for admission to a psychiatric center, I've never seen anything like it... Admission refused, of course... Outrageous...
An acquaintance of mine works in a kitchen, and according to him, it's a bad job. Good luck with the food he eats there, especially since it's meant for poor people trying to recover from serious or even minor… illnesses. Perhaps they should have a supervisor for the cooks there, and not just the cooks! There's absolutely no hygiene, to say the least!
They have no empathy, no understanding of the problem of why you are there. They have just ruined the only chance I had for myself, my family, my children, and they don't care because they don't care about your recovery.
Run, good people, run! Appalling hygiene (clogged toilets with a ban on using the ones in the next department). Staff yell at you if you cross the white line separating two departments. On weekends, boredom is… guaranteed. Run, I tell you. ... On weekends
Alright
I received a very warm welcome, they were always attentive and ready to help whenever needed. The space is lovely. I went to Caktus, and the service was superb, as was the top-notch healthcare team. I've been feeling… much better since then, thank you so much!
I went to the poppy ward and it's really not a good clinic, they treated me badly and now I don't want to go to the hospital again after this bad experience.
This service is appalling, they don't listen to the patient at all, leaving them completely to fend for themselves. They even administer Valium like candy instead of considering much milder medications! It's shameful!… My friend came running back after spending four days with you... is that normal? Thank you. Sincerely.
An acquaintance stayed in the psychiatric ward of Petit Bourgogne, and I was shocked by the level of mistreatment and disregard for patients' rights. The caregivers seemed to abuse their power and disregard the… patients' choices and preferences. I witnessed several instances during my visits where caregivers used an authoritarian and degrading approach towards patients. They seemed more interested in maintaining order than in the well-being of those in their care. This created a hostile and anxiety-inducing environment, which is completely unacceptable in a mental health facility. Furthermore, I observed that medical decisions were made without genuinely consulting the patients. The caregivers seemed to impose their own choices, ignoring the individual preferences of the patients. It is essential to respect the autonomy of people suffering from mental health problems and to give them a voice in their own treatment. It is crucial that the relevant authorities investigate these allegations of mistreatment and take steps to improve the practices of this facility. Patients' rights must be protected, and a caring and respectful care environment must be established.
I asked for a private room, but there weren't any.
Okay, I'm writing another review since my reviews never appear on the site. (We absolutely mustn't let future patients and their parents know that going to Agora Cadran can ruin patients' lives.) So I'll be gentler… today. Just so you know, psychiatrists (with 12 years of study) can't read or interpret medication leaflets, and we're treated like dogs.
Disrespectful to patients, guards instead of nurses who yell at you and create an unhealthy, ambient, prison-like state of stress.
It was in this place that I met the cool heroine...
Hello, I received treatment at your clinic 25 years ago, and despite some difficult memories, I recognize the effectiveness of your services and thank you for that. I have had an administrator for 15 years, and I am… only now sending you this feedback; I needed time to analyze the situation. I highly recommend Philippe Godin. He has been my administrator for 15 years, and for the past 7 years, his wife Sabine managed my salary. Then, when she became a criminal judge, it was Sabine who suggested Philippe Godin. He doesn't commit fraud, and he doesn't deprive anyone, even if they have debts. In fact, if someone becomes insolvent, they are protected because Philippe manages their affairs. He got me out of all my minor problems. For the past two years, I've been earning €2,500. He contacted the INAMI (National Institute for Sickness and Disability Insurance) by email, and I was even summoned by the head of the INAMI. I advise people who need to be placed under guardianship, and I recommend Maître Philippe Godin. He is a serious lawyer, and he also inherited the title of best lawyer at the Liège bar because his father, Henri Godin, was the second-best lawyer at the Liège bar. Therefore, he has no need to cheat in the accounts he manages. Mr. Denaive Sincerely,
Very good hospital.
