How Much Does Treatment at UZ Brussel Cost?
As UZ Brussel’s psychiatry department treats addiction as one of several specialisms within a general hospital setting rather than as a dedicated addiction residential programme, Belgian market figures for residential and outpatient addiction care are included here as broader context rather than a like-for-like guide to this hospital’s own costs.
As a public hospital, care may be accessible through Belgium’s health insurance system (mutualités/ziekenfondsen), though this depends on residency and insurance status rather than being automatic for visitors from abroad. Contact the psychiatry department to ask how a referral works and what an assessment would involve.

UZ Brussel Reviews
Patients, family members who’ve supported someone through care here, or referring clinicians are encouraged to share a review reflecting their experience of UZ Brussel’s psychiatry department.
Its standing as a university hospital, its research links, and the breadth of its clinical specialisms are all worth weighing alongside reviews. A good question to ask is how the department decides between inpatient and outpatient care for someone presenting with an addiction-related concern.
Exceptionally good organization, warm-hearted people, top doctors, good spirit, responsible follow-up. In short... a huge congratulations to everyone who is part of UZ Jette.
The quality of the medical staff is not what you would expect from a university hospital.
😡😡😡 Three days ago, we were at the ER for my daughter with a severe abdominal pain attack. She was screaming in pain, so they gave her painkillers and a sedative. She had an allergic reaction to the tramadol (her jaw… was numb and swollen). Three hours later, the doctor told her her pain was subsiding and she could go home; there was no need for a scan or ultrasound. On Monday morning, we went to our GP, who ordered an ultrasound at a radiology clinic. The result: lots of gallstones, which explained the excruciating pain. She was doubled over in pain. We had her wait in a chair, not a bed, because it would create extra work for the nurses. I'm disgusted with this system and all these incompetent doctors. Where did you get your degrees??? 😡😡😡😡😡
A warm welcome, the triage nurses were attentive. The doctor was competent, the service impeccable, always attentive and caring.
There are no words for it.
They are my favorites
Friendly staff. Competent doctor who keeps her promises.
A hospital where utter chaos reigns, in the truest sense of the word! In the emergency room, the doctors couldn't care less about the patients. Racism is rampant, and the behavior is simply shameful and sickening. I… sincerely hope that all these doctors who treat patients this way will one day find themselves in their shoes and suffer the same contempt, the same indifference, and the same inhumane treatment. I would also like to point out that in the emergency room, there doesn't even seem to be a real doctor on site: the staff makes phone calls to doctors asking them what to do with the patients. Is this normal in an emergency department? This is an outrageous situation, a disgrace to the healthcare system, and a complete lack of humanity, professionalism, and respect for patients. No one deserves to be treated this way, especially when they are in a vulnerable state and in need of urgent care.
Unheard-of negligence and lack of empathy! My baby (on vacation from the Netherlands) had to wait more than 5 hours in the emergency room from midday. It is incomprehensible that a baby is left to her fate for so long.… The organization and communication in this department are very poor. This is absolutely unacceptable for a university hospital. Very disappointed in this care! 👎🏻
A special thank you to Melissa and Virginie from the cafeteria for their kindness and helpfulness.
This is a very clean hospital, the staff are very kind and respectful, and it is well organized.
I attended consultations at the Gynecology department of UZ Brussels several times between April and July 2026. During that period, I was examined by four different doctors, including even a professor. Unfortunately,… the consultations were always very brief, and I got the impression that there was little interest in my complaints. Each time, I was told that everything was fine, without any treatment being suggested or prescribed. Because I did not feel helped, I eventually consulted another gynecologist outside the hospital. During an ultrasound, this doctor did indeed identify a problem and prescribed a treatment for me. I am therefore particularly indignant and deeply disappointed. How is it possible that four different doctors, including a professor, failed to notice my problem? I find it unacceptable that I paid for multiple consultations without the cause of my complaints being determined. Moreover, I lost valuable time because of this, and my treatment started later than necessary. I had expected much more attention, thoroughness, and professionalism from a university hospital like UZ Brussels. My experience has severely damaged my trust in the gynecology department. I hope the hospital takes this feedback seriously so that other patients do not have to go through the same thing.
I have a few (sometimes more) appointments at the University Hospital every year. The appointment times are always adhered to in the departments (sometimes within 10 minutes). The staff (nurses, doctors) are always… friendly. Also with the many other patients sitting in the waiting rooms. And regarding the quality of my medical care, I can only attest: very good!!!
I went to this hospital for an MRI, but unfortunately, I had an allergic reaction to the contrast agent. The emergency room doctors and radiologists were exceptional; they immediately took me seriously and provided… excellent care, and I returned home safe and sound. A huge thank you to the entire team! 🙏
Without generalizing, we did encounter a very unpleasant person at reception. Admittedly, after checking the information displayed on the screens, the average wait time in the emergency room is 2 hours and 20 minutes,… we waited for 5 hours and still nothing. The staff seemed relaxed, strolling around, laughing, getting ice cream, just chilling. If they are understaffed or don't appreciate French speakers, I think they should inform people to avoid giving them a bad experience. Personally, this is the first and last time.
The triage at the emergency room was horrific!
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the entire team at UZ Brussel for the wonderful care and support I received during the birth of my daughter, Abigail. A special thank you to Dr. Ahmed Wafi, who took care… of me throughout the delivery and made me feel safe and supported during such an important moment in my life. I am also incredibly grateful to all the midwives, nurses, doctors, and every member of the staff who cared for me and my baby with so much kindness, patience, professionalism, and compassion. Everyone was attentive, supportive, and always willing to help, even during the most difficult moments. Thank you for making the birth of our daughter such a special and unforgettable experience. We will always remember the care and kindness we received at UZ Brussel. ❤️ With heartfelt gratitude, Maria & family
Hello, I never want to ask for help from the UZ Brussels Social Services again, and I wouldn't advise you to do the same! Distressed with my disabled husband, who has no one to rely on, I sought help from a social… worker at UZ Brussels-Jette (when my husband was discharged from the hospital). She only knows how to make grand promises; you think she's listening, but she simply doesn't care about her duties! She made me believe she would help me at home, which she said was part of her job... but I was left with just empty promises; nothing concrete was ever done.
Not even one star is deserved... If the UZ emergency room's diagnosis had been followed, I'd be planning my sister-in-law's funeral right now. The repeated negligence of the emergency department is a major factor in… this hospital's bad reputation! Not to mention the cleanliness (cockroaches crawling on patients' arms, waiting on metal chairs unsuitable for certain situations, etc.)... Avoid at all costs if you're not in good health...
It's paradise on earth, no doubt about it.
I arrived at the ER at 2 AM, it's now 6:16 AM, and still no doctor has come to see my mother, who is in pain and struggling to breathe. I've reported the problem several times, but no one bothers to do anything. They… rushed everyone who arrived after us under the pretext that "your case isn't an emergency." They're laughing at reception while people are suffering! There's no one in the department; I had to walk around to find the radiology technician who told me to go to the end of the corridor... no one to refer to, and the doctor told us to see our family doctor even though my mother can barely breathe! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! It's incompetent, and they treat you with contempt.
Pneumo: they just shove an appointment down your throat with a doctor who isn't your usual doctor. When you explain that you want to cancel the appointment because that isn't your doctor, they are so rude that they… simply interrupt you in the middle of a sentence to ask for your date of birth. With the explanation: "otherwise I can't see anything on the computer." They don't even let you finish speaking! And furthermore: "it doesn't matter which doctor this appointment is with because it's just for a device check." So I just have to show up for a device check, and if I have a problem I want to raise, I just have to make a new appointment with the doctor I normally see. What kind of factory-like situation is this? Without any form of personal attention for a patient, they just schedule something and the patient just has to deal with it! Rude through and through!

Excellent palliative care for my father by ward 410. Thanks to the nursing staff for their dedication to making his last days as comfortable as possible.
I would like to express my gratitude from the bottom of my heart to all the nurses at UZ Brussels who took care of me. ❤️ The past few days were not easy for me. I was in pain, scared, and sometimes felt insecure. But… thanks to your good care, patience, and kind words, I never felt alone. You took the time to listen to me, reassure me, and help me whenever I needed you. You do so much more than just your job. You give patients a sense of safety and trust at moments when they need it most. I will never forget that. A special thank you to the nurses who were extra kind and caring towards me. You have truly earned a place in my heart. 🥹❤️ Thank you for everything you have done for me. I want to make it clear that this review is not about the hospital or its staff. I never write bad reviews, but I felt compelled to write this one to warn other patients who might find themselves in the same situation… as me with Professor Jean-François Argacha (Cardiology Department at UZ Brussel). This doctor displayed blatant contempt, refused to listen to my symptoms, and called me "lazy." He even went so far as to tell me I had the physical fitness of an 80-year-old grandmother and compared his life to mine, claiming it was all my fault because I didn't exercise. I left in tears. Fortunately, I listened to my body and consulted another specialist who immediately took my symptoms seriously and made an accurate diagnosis. Never give up in the face of an inhumane doctor who makes you feel guilty. If you feel something is wrong, persevere and seek a second opinion. I hope that Mr. Jean François shows more humanity and listening to his other patients because denying and denigrating patients and letting them leave with their symptoms without helping them could be a serious mistake and cause dangerous situations for them.
