About QuIHN – Kirwan
QuIHN runs its Townsville office from Kirwan, offering free and confidential alcohol and other drug counselling, hepatitis C testing and treatment, and a needle and syringe programme. The Queensland Injectors Health Network works with anyone who uses drugs, including individuals who inject, and takes contact without a referral.
Support extends to co-occurring mental health concerns and to family, friends and carers. An outreach van visits Townsville parks three days a week, taking the service to individuals who would not otherwise come to a clinic. The Kirwan office opens on weekdays and closes on public holidays; intake runs through 1800 172 076 and the office number is (07) 4735 8828. QuIHN lists NSQHS, QIP/QIC and AGPAL accreditation.

QuIHN Counselling Services
Counselling is the core of QuIHN’s Townsville offer, covering alcohol and other drug use and co-occurring mental health concerns, with separate support for family, friends and carers. Outreach and a needle and syringe programme sit alongside it, together with hepatitis C testing and treatment.
Sessions are one to one and the setting is non-residential, so you attend by appointment and go home afterwards. Blood-borne virus testing is available on site, and the outreach van reaches parks across Townsville three days a week. Detox, prescribed medication and longer structured programmes are not listed for this office, and the counselling team can point you towards whichever service in the region handles that step.

Where Is QuIHN?
QuIHN’s Townsville service operates from 47 Thuringowa Drive, Kirwan, Queensland, postcode 4817, in a suburban part of the city rather than on a hospital campus. The same organisation runs a separate Cairns office, so check which site your appointment is at.
Hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, with the office closed on public holidays. No referral is required and intake runs through 1800 172 076, or you can call the office directly on (07) 4735 8828. Because part of the team works on the outreach van during the week, ring first and check that a counsellor will be in the building before you travel.

How Much Does Treatment at QuIHN Cost?
QuIHN’s Townsville services are free. Counselling, hepatitis C testing and treatment, the needle and syringe programme and outreach are all government-funded and confidential, so there is no charge to you or a loved one for an appointment at the Kirwan office.
Family, friends and carers are seen at no cost as well. No private fee schedule, private health insurance arrangement, NDIS plan or WorkCover pathway is listed for this office. Transport to Thuringowa Drive is the main out-of-pocket item, and where getting there is difficult the outreach van covering Townsville parks may be the easier way to make first contact.

QuIHN Reviews
Reviews of QuIHN from around the web are limited in number, and those that exist tend to describe the organisation’s harm reduction work in Queensland generally rather than the Kirwan office. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for this service, so anyone who has used the Townsville office can add their account.
Harm reduction services of this kind are used by individuals who often prefer not to post publicly, which keeps written feedback thin. A description of how the counselling felt, how a testing appointment was handled or what the outreach van is like in practice would be genuinely useful to someone weighing up a first visit.
Fantastic and easy to talk to and ask questions
Great service great staff a place to feel very comfortable all staff are friendly and very helpful
Run by a woman who needs to retire due to medical & mental issues. 1 yr ago the place was great but the sudden change in staff made the place feel unsafe as drugs could now be purchased alongside your injecting… equipment when a known local dealer Waa suddenly hired and experienced were sacked. Don't trust this company or their workers as privacy means nothing in this workplace. Used to be a safe place to drop in for a chat but not anymore
No judgement here
