Brad Carter Wow is My first response ! Defeated mentally, emotionally, & Spiritually. Fear & unknown was a big factor at first. But about 7 Days into the program, It hits. We had an Art class that would change my life!… Total Honesty! Was able to take my mask off and see clearly. The Councilors were amazing & Loving But would really challenge me to dig deeper. It took about 18 Hrs before i finally surrendered to My Higher power and to self!! Changing Tides & the Community around us were so loving , supportive and became family to me. I know for a fact that its the Best thing ive ever done. Know that it Changed with Surrender and the Changing Tides Group that has Impacted my family and myself. great place. The serenity of the beach, Reflecting with self was a big part of my recovery. The cook out on Sundays with peers that became family and friends. I'm not saying it is easy at all. Because its a brokenness that i created. the CT Team helped me to get the tool Box i needed and need in my daily walk. to be honest i don't really have the words to really explain what Changing Tided Is & Did for me! Also the community of people and meetings i was Blessed to be a part of. So if anyone is looking to surrender a battle. This is the Army i needed beside me. Thank You to the Changing Tides Facility, & everyone involved on this new life & journey. It Takes one step, one moment,& one day at a time. Have a Blessed day sincerely Brad
Changing Tides showed me how to believe in myself again.Spiritual and Mentally they gave me the pieces to put the puzzle(Me) back together, by living a sober healthy and fun life. You can truly function in society with… out substances. Even though the road can still be difficult but working the 12 steps is beneficial. Meditation, Yoga, Walking, Excercing etc. The Clinical team works consistently on putting a plan together that suits your needs. Dr.Angel Miller and Cecil Meadows, has worked overtime on my behalf. I'm forever honored to say you guys pull me back together 💋💯❤️🌹 PS, it's on the beach 🏖️!!!!!🌹🌹
The staff treated everyone with care, compassion, and support. They are very knowledgeable, not only in sobriety, but in recovery and staying recovered. They analyzed everything from adolescence to current age and… helped me understand and identify what kept me sick. They also helped me understand addiction and the importance of a specific discharge plan to support long term recovery. This experience far exceeded my expectations. I’m forever thankful for Changing Tides.
I truly believe this place is one of a kind. Especially for people like myself who had never been to treatment before. The level of patience, love, and care from the staff not only allowed me to feel comfortable… quickly, but to actually feel at home. By the end of treatment you will probably want to just move in permanently. I feel very prepared to continue my recovery as I return to the “real world” and that’s all thanks to the tools I have been taught at Changing Tides. They genuinely want you to succeed here and will go to any lengths to help you develop a strong foundation for recovery and life in general. I am forever grateful for this place and the staff, as well as everyone I met during my time at Changing Tides.
I showed up to Changing Tides at my lowest. I thought my life was over, and I was beyond repair. I pulled up thinking I was about to walk the plank to my ultimate doom. But the first words I heard were from a guy… casually shooting hoops who said “Hey! Welcome! Give it two days and you’ll feel right at home.” In my mind I thought there was no way that was true. Boy was I wrong. In a way, my life WAS over. The way of life that I had been so accustomed to living died that day. Thankfully. Changing Tides let me see that life was worth living again. They didn’t just teach me how to not use and abuse, they taught me how to exist. And enjoy existing. I gained friends, skills, strategies, lessons, and most importantly: my freedom. My advice to anyone thinking of coming to Changing Tides: do it. Listen, digest, practice, enjoy the beach, laugh, cry, and make the effort. Your life is worth it, and if you do all of those things, Changing Tides will show you how to move forward. This place is truly special. I can’t possibly thank the staff here enough. Lori, Geri, Grayson, Brian, Melanie, Leo, Moria, Dr. Sanchez, Angel, Kolby, Lauren, Melissa, Cecil, Aubrey, Brett, Dr. Martin, and of course Ted - you’ve given me my life back. You didn’t just help me stop drinking, you helped me be me.
Choosing to seek help is never easy, and the day I arrived at Changing Tides, I was angry, incredibly nervous, and completely resistant to being there. However, from the moment I stepped onto the property, the staff… completely changed my perspective. They were exceptionally welcoming, understanding, and consummate professionals. I quickly realized this wasn’t just a standard rehab facility, it was the catalyst for a total life change. The environment they cultivate is unique. It is not a lockdown facility. They grant you the freedom you need, treat you with absolute dignity as a human being, and go above and beyond to meet the individual needs of everyone starting their recovery journey. The staff members are the heartbeat of this program, and the personal relationships I built with them saved my life.Aubry was instrumental right from the start, helping me seamlessly secure a room and transition into the facility. Brett’s vast knowledge and insight provided immense guidance throughout the process. Angel, Kolby, and Lauren met me at the beginning of my journey. Through foundational assignments, peer activities, and simply being incredibly real with me, they helped me dig deep within myself to understand how to actually live a life in recovery. Cecil and Melissa guided me through the later, deeper assignments that truly opened my eyes and solidified my breakthrough. Beyond the staff, the connection with my peers was invaluable. I built deep, lasting friendships with people who walked this path with me, creating a powerful brotherhood that I desperately needed and couldn't have done without. Changing Tides gave me exactly what I needed, even when I didn't know I needed it. I have so much love and respect for everyone there, and I am profoundly blessed to have met them all. If you or a loved one are seeking help and looking for a place that will truly support your transformation, this is the best place to go. It is a world class facility on the beachfront, but more importantly, it is a place of genuine healing. Would give more stars if possible!
When I arrived at Changing Tides everyone made me feel welcome, I was nervous, scared and embarrassed and just not really sure about anything, the only thing I was sure of is that I needed help.I was at the point that I… didn’t care if I lived or died, I was ready for a change in my life. When I arrived I thought I just had a drinking problem, that I was an alcoholic, but I learned so much more about myself. I learned about my character defects, the resentment and anger I was carrying was destroying me. The Faculty here helped me through it all, taught me the coping skills I needed to overcome these issues, also taught me how to set boundaries. All the Therapist, Counselors and Peer Support are amazing people, they all have their own unique style of therapy .This place was a lifeline for me, a beacon of light in a dark place, my life will never be the same. Thank you so very much to all the Faculty and Staff at Changing Tides, I now can see the Tide Changing in my life.I will have 90 days sobriety on May 18, 2026, and I am working the program,I am working the 12 Steps and I keep doing the next right thing and being honest, with myself and others, nothing bad comes from that. My sincere thanks to Bret, Aubrey, Cecil and all the staff , this place is very special, near and dear to my heart.
Best place to get help with your addiction. I was worried about the whole process, they explained everything to me in great detail so I knew what to expect. Went there thinking that I wouldn’t last two weeks and ended… up staying 3 months. Totally turned my life around to be a good and positive situation. They taught me all the tools to help me with my recovery afterwards as well. Really can’t thank them enough. All the staff from the top to the bottom was more helpful than they will ever know. Thank you so much.
Life changing. Through my struggles with addiction I thought for many years that I could handle it on my own. I had finally hit the moment in my life when I needed a change for good. CT helped me re-discover my true… self. This is the one and only rehab I have ever been too, however, when talking to other clients that had been to other facilities, CT was nothing like they had ever experienced. (I mean that in a very positive way). The staff is unbelievable. They cared more about me on day 1 than I had cared about myself for years. I don’t think I have ever been surrounded by more people that truly listened to what I had to say. Being my first rehab I did not know what to expect but the staff and clients alike were very welcoming and compassionate. My only advice to anyone going to rehab is keep an open mind. Obviously we are there because we have been getting it wrong for a long time, so even if the session might seem pointless at first I promise there is a purpose. If you want help, and want to get back to the person you know you are than CT is for you. Again, I can not say enough great things. Thank you CT staff for allowing me to learn and grow while in your care. I am a husband, a father, and a true friend again.
This place changed my life. I waited for a year before posting this and now have over a year in sobriety. Best decision I have made so far. The staff here are great people that care and want to see you succeed in… recovery.
After a three term stay I can say I am leaving Changing Tides feeling better than I have in years. CT provided me with excellent programming and management tools, amazing and experienced staff, and a successful recovery… experience unlike any other. If you are ready to put the work in to change your life I would, by all means consider doing so at Changing Tides. It was an experience I will always be grateful for. Meredith T.
This was such a good experience. I met people that I still talk to this day. I honestly wish I was still there. Beautiful environment, beautiful people that show unconditional love. If you're reading this, definitely… consider this as an option. Being sober felt so good being there. Much 💕
I spent 3 months at Changing Tides and I never would’ve predicted how much my life has turned around for the better. The staff are all amazing. Everyone was very supportive and helpful while navigating me through a… brand new perspective of my substance abuse and mental health. Changing Tides is my first recommendation to anyone who is struggling with active addiction and wants to change their life around :)
I came to Changing Tides in May 2024, feeling lost and unsure if recovery was even possible for me. What I found was a community of incredibly compassionate, skilled counselors and staff who supported me every step of… the way. They didn’t just treat my addiction—they helped me rebuild my life from the inside out. The environment is nurturing, structured, and deeply healing. I left in September 2024 with tools, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose. I can honestly say this place saved my life. I’ll forever be grateful for the people and the program that brought me back to myself.
Awesome recovery rehab! I’m 18 months sober because of the treatment I received there and the grace of God! The staff are amazing ❤️
This is a unique facility-a comfortable, low key place that allows you certain freedoms that most others do not. The staff is friendly, professional, and goes above and beyond to make you feel safe and secure. I would… recommend this place to anyone looking for a less traditional rehabilitation experience. I returned to this facility after a bad relapse, and they welcomed me with open arms. I was fortunate enough to spend 4 terms with amazing counselors and staff. They, along with the owner, once again went out of their way to help me battle this disease. Their program is well-thought out, and allows you to explore the facets of addiction. The group therapies offer insight from both the counselors and fellow addicts in a comfortable environment. I cannot express in words what this place means to me-I will be forever thankful and grateful for their life-saving program. I wouldn’t be here without it. Changing Tides is like a home away from home, and holds a special place in my heart.
I've been all over NC. I've got a record amount of DWIs from my alcohol addiction. The attention, professional care, & treatment at Changing Tides was nothing short of phenomenal! I've been taught tools (to utilize) in… my addiction that I never knew were available. I love this place, and they go the extra mile to help individuals but only if you let them. It's changed my whole outlook on life. Changed my thinking. I highly recommend Changing Tides if you or your loved ones need a rescue from all that addiction has destroyed in your family! It could save your life. They helped this old drunk so much that I can never thank them enough. Love every single one of the staff members here and the addiction community (AA) that has to be experienced. You will truly feel the love like you've probably never felt.
Just wanted to express MY gratitude for the dedicated work the staff of Changing Tides do day after day..This facility and the program it provides is such a blessing and one that comes in disguise. I never thought 28… days would be so beneficial and knowledgeable for me, my family and the rest of my life. I give such HIGH PRAISE to everyone who participates in and around this wonderful community that I had the privilege and chance to experience. Thank you for my life changing recovery journey!!
I spent 51 life changing days at changing tides. The staff are all extremely knowledgeable, welcoming, and there to aid you in your recovery every step of the way. With access to the beach, gym, cell phones, and… interactions with peers and families it is set up to help you recover successfully.
If your ready to change your life get your life back they will help you!!! Take the leap ya just might see how strong you really are!!!!
Changing tides truly changed my life. I learned so much about myself and who I could truly be with sobriety. I loved that we were right on the beach and still had a bit of freedom, which made transitioning back to life… at home more easy. The majority of employees there are all in recovery as well which made them more relatable and easy to talk to. I came in an anxious mess and left with joy and excitement about the future. The assignments we did in group really helped me take a look at myself and prepare for the future. I still will read some of those assignments today to help remind me of why I am sober! I’ve been sober for almost a year now and I couldn’t have done it without changing tides.
I learned some excellent tools to create my tool box while staying here last year. Without changing tides I would be the sober person I am today!
Changing Tides helped me so much in finding my way to a clean and sober life. Providing caring staff, plus a safe environment for me to become open to hearing and understanding my disease of alcoholism and addiction.… The staff are amazing people who actually care about each client. That was very important to me. I’ve been to other treatment centers and I could tell the staff was there just for a paycheck. The staff treated me like a human being. They cared for me when I didn’t know how to care for myself. I also liked that I didn’t feel like a prisoner. I was free to walk the property and to the beach. The staff also took us to local A.A. and N.A. meetings to see and hear the message of recovery from people who actually staying clean and sober. The rooms were very nice and I was allowed to order my own groceries and cook my own food. Which was freaking awesome lol because from my experience other places do not serve the best foods. There’s also a gym, basketball, pool and patio area where clients can grill and converse with each other by the pool. Now for my favorite thing was the beach access directly across the facility. It was a great place for me to watch the sunrise and meditate. Changing Tides is special. I stayed three terms and I’m still clean and sober today!
After my life completely falling into dissaray and missing out on more than half of every week due to being blackout drunk I decided I needed help. Went here for 28 days and after 9 years I'm sober going on two months… and feel good and positive. The staff were amazing and very helpful always willing to listen to you and give you advice and pointers. The assignments really make you dig deep down into why you turned to drugs or alcohol and help you realize why if you didn't know and help you deal with them more appropriately. If you truly want help this is an amazing place to go
Changing Tides truly changed my life. Having struggled with sobriety for almost two decades and unable to control my addiction and relapsing after trying other rehab programs I was looking for an alternative to… traditional addiction treatment programs and I found that with Changing Tides. From day one the staff was supportive, informative and kind. From the owners to the counselors to peer support leaders everyone was an active part of my sobriety journey everyday. I owe Changing Tides my life and am clean and sober today because of the amazing people, program and work done there.
The program and staff changed my life forever while I was here seeking help for alcohol addiction. I will be forever grateful.

Changing tides review At 35 I found myself staying in a motel with all of my belongings, in a sort of limbo- not wanting to live, not wanting to die, and severely dependent on chemicals. I had burned just about every… bridge possible, and was just about out of grace from my family, but they were willing to help me get into one last treatment center. I chose changing tides because I had heard good things about it from a friend. (Being close to the beach and being able to keep my phone were also reasons). When I first got to changing tides, clients told me that “they give you enough rope to hang yourself”. And there was an occasion or two where I was tempted, but I knew how much was at stake and was not going to give in that easily. During my stay, I was able to go for walks on the beach between groups to reflect and clear my head. I met once a week with my therapist, Brett, who is an absolute expert in his field. He has the educational degrees, but more importantly has lived the struggle of alcohol and drug addiction. I have talked to countless therapists and counselors in my lifetime, and I learned more about myself thru my sessions with Brett than all of them combined. The group sessions are intense at first, but force you and your peers to interact and become vulnerable, and I ended up forming bonds with people I never thought possible. When my two terms ended, I was nervous to leave, but the transition was easier than I thought it would be. I took their suggestions, and did 90 meetings in 90 days. I found an AA group that I liked and made it my “homegroup” and I treat it the same way I treated group at changing tides. Prior to treatment I never felt comfortable in AA, but today I can truly say that I’m a proud member of AA and I look forward to meetings. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for Brett, Aubrey, and the staff at changing tides- they literally saved my life!!
This place changed my life. If you or someone you love needs a place to go and figure their struggles out, this is the place. Everything from the staff, the location, and the people you will meet while there is exactly… what I needed in a time where I had no idea what I needed. I tell people all the time about CT and my 2 months there. I learned the tools I needed to use when I returned to my life and I am so thankful for this place each and everyday.
