Tl;dr - former student recommends this place highly Spent some time in New Haven before moving to a step down facility. Staff there were consummate professionals who care about the kids. The therapists helped me in ways… that I’ll hold forever. Sure, it was a stressful environment with other kids who needed help, but that stress made me more resilient. Just make sure you remind your kid that treatment is what they make of it. Proud to say I’ve come a long way since my first day. I’m in the last year of my JD program with job offers to do corporate law. Thank you to Sara, Rochelle, Courtney, and the Coltons.

My daughter was accepted at 13 years old, just going into 9th grade. She was definitely on the younger side of the Saratoga Springs campus. She was admitted for severe self harming behaviors with a borderline… personality diagnosis. When she was admitted she was in a cast from a self harming incident. Nothing was withheld at the time of intake and she was welcomed with open arms. The first traumatic thing they do is put new incoming kids inside a room with windows, segregated from all other kids. This was what traumatized her the most. The school definitely was not equipped to deal with my daughter. She was too young and they did not offer her the appropriate programming. The kids had parent week within the first 2 weeks of us being there, right in the heart of Covid. We were told that she would be able to spend some time with us, even though she was in the "isolation room" due to self harming behaviors. They dangled us in front of our daughter without us being able to have any connection with her. They also banned my husband from the campus. Within 2 weeks they told us that my daughter was too high risk and that they had to send her to a stabilization program. The house mom, Alex at the time, ensured us that our girl would be welcomed back. That definitely was NOT the case. In the meantime we hired an Education Consultant and were blessed with other amazing treatment in Utah that accepted our insurance. I strongly encourage you to not waste your time if your daughter is a square peg because she definitely will not fit in their round hole.

I owe New Haven my life. I was at the Teresa house from 2024 to 2026 and though my stay was long it was 100% worth every second. New Haven gave me what I needed to succeed, not what I wanted but what I needed. As… always, there were definitely ups and downs to my stay but that is to be expected if anyone is growing and learning. And, I learned so many lessons that will keep me on the right path in life. One of the most important things that I learned during my stay was that I am good enough. That I don’t have to be good enough for others to be good enough for myself. I learned that honesty, even when it is hard, is one of the best ways to achieve a healthy relationship with anyone. This helped me grow my relationship with my parents because the value of honesty is one of the most important ones for our family. The program doesn’t just focus on the kid but the family as a whole. One big thing that they have the families explore is the idea of the problem is the problem. That no individual is the issue but, the actions and contributing factors are. My family and I have been taught how to separate the person from the action in order to move through a problem to get to the other side. There are many important pieces that build on healthy relationships and New Haven gave me the space to figure out how to have those healthy relationships. The staff who work there are truly there for the kids, to help them grow and move through the challenges that come their way. My therapist, Amy is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met. She would tell it to me straight if I messed up, give me advice when I needed it, help me work through my trauma, and have fun with me too. The program also assigns a residential staff to each student called a relational coach. My coach was Lauryn and she helped me work through the dynamics of healthy relationships. She stuck with me through my entire journey even when it was hard. I now have so many people in my corner including Amy and Lauryn who are rooting for me, that I can lean on when I need support. I have lots of tools to use when I make mistakes that can help me bounce back faster every time. I have so many healthy relationships with my family, my peers, the staff, and my therapist. I no longer have to worry about whether I have a future or not, because I now have all the things that I need to be successful in the goals that I work toward. I have learned that it is okay to struggle, that it is a normal thing that happens to everyone, but what counts is how you deal with it. I owe a big thank you to everyone who supported me, all of the employees, the amazing peers, Amy and Lauryn, and the amazing place and community that I have loved to be a part of. They have helped bring my family and I back together again.

My daughter went through the program at New Haven, and I credit them with saving her life. My daughter had some trauma when she was younger and when she started at New Haven, she was self-harming and thinking of… suicide. The staff there kept her safe while supporting her needs, and her therapist, Amy, worked with both strength and grace. The program here not only focuses on the kids' behaviors, but also on repairing and making family interactions healthier. Amy pushed my daughter and me to both hold our own and respect the other's boundaries. While neither of us is perfect, my daughter and I are now at a point where we feel like we can talk with each other if issues come up, rather than arguing about it. Prior to her treatment, I was terrified for her future. Now, after her time at New Haven, I have the confidence that she will be able to go into adulthood with an emotional maturity that few possess, and that she and I will have a stronger and healthier relationship.

if you sent your daughter here you are not a good parent, i’d suggest you look a deeper look at yourself before reviewing “this place treated my daughter perfectly!” because they didn’t. the mental health struggle your… daughter is going to go through after coming to this place will make her resent you for the rest of your life. best of luck to you!

This place makes use of cruel and unusual punishment. The worst 14 months of my life. My family and I are still dealing with the fallout and I was here in 2019. New Haven is abusive and disgusting. The state of Utah is… doing a disservice to the children still there against their will. They violate the laws of Utah freely such as no communication block as well as having. Student on suicide watch completely alone. Like in prison. Send your kid anywhere else. The first real doctors appointment I went to after New Haven had me medically hospitalized. New Haven is negligent and made my life harder and worse.

Went here for 16ish months. Worst experience of my life. Ended up with more trauma than I came with, its a total money grab. They prolong the time way past what it should be, they are deceiving to the parents and the… students, cheap, the food is terrible, ruined my relationship with my family and worsened my trust issues like crazy. If you want your kid to genuinley recover rather than just be shamed for being "bad", do not send then to new haven. Just please dont send your kid to new haven. Staff quit all the time because they hate it there there are runs every other day everyone hates it there and its not effective.

I am greatful for New Haven. I was in a Really bad place mentally and I really learned a lot. I’m so greatful for the staff they really cared about me. Although some staff were questionable with their own mood, I felt… comfortable enough to tell other staff about the interaction and helped me though that. thank you Mary for everything you done for me and how you helped me navigate my emotions and help me become the best version of myself. Shout out to Dan, Maddie, Isabella and the other MHTs at Spanish fork for everything you did you me while I was there. I hope other girls can get the opportunity to work with you

My daughter was admitted from January- April 2026. I want to start by saying my daughter really struggled academically and behaviorally and my biggest fear was sending her to a place that would cause more harm then… good. I researched and researched to make sure I found a place that I knew my daughter would be safe in. One thing about New Haven is the family support from other parents. New Haven was recommended to me from another parent who’s child was currently in the program and I am so happy I chose this placement. The first month was the hardest for both of us, her behaviors increased and so did my anxiety, however her therapist and the staff kept me well informed and walked me through all interventions! By month two we saw so much growth and stability from my daughter. The family therapies really helped us learn what she was feeling and how we can get closer as a family. Nursing was exceptional, they are very quick to respond to my questions and I had LOTS of questions regarding medication. They really listen to what my daughter was saying and did everything they can to help her with her symptoms of her diagnosis. The school portion was also amazing, my daughter struggled with school avoid and they worked with her and got her on a path where not only is she going to school and is doing the work and passing! She is very excited to go back to her school and show all her teachers what she has accomplished. The other thing that made me feel very comfortable with this transition to programming was the was the way milieu was ran. When you have 16 girls with 16 different reasonings of why they are admitted can easily create cauois but the staff really created an environment where the girls can grow safely and effectively. But also not to forget the girls really were their for eachother like a sisterhood. The only reason why I chose not to give 5 stars to New Haven was because it is not finaclially maintainable if insurance runs out and have no other source of funding it is very expensive. Although her therapist really advocated for her our Insurance dropped us and we had to leave before the program was completed. If I had to recommend a RTC for your daughter I highly recommend New Haven.

We had our ups and downs with New Haven, but in the end they were an amazing help in our daughter's journey to recovery. Almost all the staff were incredibly caring and dedicated. Generally we were always heard and our… input was a major part of our daughter's treatment plan. Grateful to New Haven and its staff for all they did.

I went to New Haven from September to November, it was the worst experience ever, understaffed so bad girls couldn't use the bathroom or even eat, many many flies in the house and food sometimes even the water, the cops… were always there, very little staff are good (Gracie, sam, Anna, Sydney, Chloe) and others are just horrible, there is a huge issue with favoritism in the house I stayed in which was the S&A house, this was my first time in a residential and this was so traumatizing, I was sexually assaulted, hit over a shower, threatened and more. They gave me more trauma and and eating disorder and I ended up self harming worse in New Haven than before. I had to pull different girls off of staff because they would be beating them up and they were the only staff, New Haven would get staff from different houses that didn't know anything at all, and would refuse the girls literally anything including snacks and hygiene and would even get too rough in holds with the girls, new Haven let a girl go through my clothes without me, my mom or therapist knowing and she ended up stealing a lot of my stuff. there is a lot more that happened but New Haven is a horrible place for anyone. please never send your kid or work here.

Sending my daughter to a residential treatment center was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make as a parent, and I was incredibly apprehensive at first. However, our experience with New Haven’s… Stabilization & Assessment Program far exceeded every expectation I had. I am genuinely grateful for the level of care, support, and communication we received from day one. The clinical director and my daughter’s therapist, Cassi, was truly exceptional. Cassi built trust with my daughter in a way I had not seen before, and knowing that my daughter felt safe going to her with anything meant everything to me. The clinical leadership made sure I understood every step of the process, and they took my concerns seriously from the moment we arrived. Their professionalism, compassion, and genuine investment in my daughter’s well-being stood out immediately. The nursing staff was just as incredible. They consistently went above and beyond to ensure her safety, monitor her needs, and communicate with me about even the smallest changes or questions. There was never a moment when I felt out of the loop. Whether it was a medical update or a quick check-in, their communication was consistent, thoughtful, and reassuring. I could always reach someone when I needed to, and I never once felt like my daughter wasn’t in excellent hands. One of the biggest strengths of New Haven’s program is how thorough, individualized, and comprehensive their assessment process is. They provided the most detailed psychological evaluation my daughter has ever received, and for the first time, I truly felt like her experiences, symptoms, and struggles were understood with depth and accuracy. They paid attention to nuances that are so often overlooked by other providers, and those insights have already transformed how I support her at home. Despite some negative reviews in the past, our experience was nothing short of outstanding. The program is thoughtfully designed, tailored to each child’s needs, and grounded in compassion and clinical expertise. I felt supported at every turn; not just my daughter, but me as a parent navigating an overwhelming situation. My daughter made meaningful progress during her three months there, and the foundation they helped her build is something she continues to benefit from today. I am sincerely grateful for the entire team at New Haven, and I would not hesitate to recommend this program to any family whose child needs this level of care. They truly changed our lives for the better.

The team of therapists, relational coaches, medical staff, and teachers was all needed to create a safety bubble around our teen while she experienced a real and present storm in her life requiring therapy (individual,… group, & family therapy). After 12 months of school and therapy, she was able to actually complete high school early and has launched successfully into her college experience. Thankfully, New Haven offers aftercare options to make the transition bearable- it is a lot to transition from a safety bubble to college life. We appreciate the deep care from all the staff, including the cook and night staff, who all make themselves available to the kiddos when a listening ear is needed. The reason for 4 stars was because we would’ve like to see more daily physical activity included in the program for a healthy lifestyle. However, there were parent weekends to national parks and many outdoor opportunities. In summary, New Haven aims at making families whole and we were blessed to be one of those families.

My daughter spent a year at New Haven and it was an excellent experience for us and for her. If you are considering New Haven, you’re in a tough place and have been through a lot. We were there and made mistakes before… finding New Haven. The team was excellent - especially her counselor (shout out to the amazing Amy). The depth of the program and the quality of the people had a profoundly positive impact on our daughter and our family. I’m extremely thankful that we found this place. We still stay in touch with multiple families that we met through the program. My daughter supported my writing this review which says everything. These are good people doing good work.

Went here in 2024. They allowed me to starve myself to the point of hospitalization, the therapist there belittled me for even thinking about suicide and basically joked about my situation. None of the staff have dealt… with people with mutism, so I was constantly invalidated in trying to communicate via writing. They also lock you inside, and force you to “do work” to be able to go outside. Even then only 15 minutes. Worst facility ever and I hope anyone ever sent her escapes this hell

Almost didn’t graduate high school because they barely gave me any of the credits I earned (thanks Kimberly and Brittney) and like so many other places, left me worse off then when I came. My therapist clearly did not… care and I left feeling dehumanized and worthless, and unable to interact with others. I now need even more treatment to get over treatment. Thanks, New Haven.

i went to New Haven when I was fourteen to when I was almost sixteen. I have positive things to say, but much more negative. I’ll start with the positive. -certain staff made me feel very safe and loved -I met my… closest friends -I got to bring home a cat -I learned a lot about my trauma -Robyn the gym teacher But there’s much more you need to work on -I was medically neglected, and I have been diagnosed with endometriosis. I would pass out on my period and they refused to take me to the doctor. Treatment team gave me a punch card so I could only go to the nurse three times a week -When I refused to go to school, I had the mattress physically pulled out from under me You do not know how to handle children in crisis at all -our cook would push her religious and political beliefs on us -our parents were manipulated into keeping us there -Integrity tests and peer feedback are all out of malicious intent no matter what the staff say. As a student who has talked with many other students about this, we absolutely gave feedback to start drama or hurt each other, and the staff pushed it on -Bullying was a common issue and the staff never did anything about it -They would take away your personal items and lock them up for weeks and if you were on a home pass and missed return/confiscation then they would donate your things - I had a staff tell us that we shouldn’t eat the food because there were maggots in it -the mealtimes are restricted so much, and there’s no options for food. This does not help someone with annorexia. New Haven only supports people with binge disorders -staff would mistreat the animals and let us miss our animal chores and refuse to feed the animals if one of us was too depressed to do it All in all, I do not recommend this place. I still hold a grudge against my parents for sending me here and it has caused lots of tension in our family. This is the worst thing you can do for your child.
