How Much Does Treatment at CHU Brugmann Cost?
Because CHU Brugmann‘s addictology service is run within a general public hospital rather than as a dedicated addiction residential programme, Belgian market figures for residential and outpatient addiction care (roughly €8,700–€21,000 / £7,500–£18,000 for residential stays, and €1,000–€3,200 / £900–£2,800 for outpatient care) are included here as broader context rather than a like-for-like guide to hospital costs.
As a public hospital, care may be accessible through Belgium’s health insurance system (mutualités/ziekenfondsen), though this depends on residency and insurance status rather than being automatic for visitors from abroad. Contact the addictology service to ask how a referral works and what a hospitalisation or outpatient clinic place would involve.

CHU Brugmann Reviews
Patients, relatives who have supported someone through the addictology service, or referring professionals are encouraged to share a review of their experience at CHU Brugmann.
As a public university hospital, its standing includes its regulatory oversight, the range of specialist clinics it runs, and its multidisciplinary clinical team spanning psychiatry and respiratory medicine. A useful question to ask is how a referral into a specific clinic, such as the alcohol or gambling clinic, is arranged.
I just called the billing department and spoke to a very unpleasant person on the phone. She didn't even say hello, just "billing." I explained my problem, and she responded aggressively and curtly, asking for my file… or invoice number. I asked her to perhaps explain it more politely, and she replied, "If you don't like my way of speaking, you can call my colleague." So I had to hang up and call back because a member of staff wasn't pleasant or polite. What a waste of time...
First and last time at this hospital in the gynecology department with a woman—I'm going to name her even though I'd love to—we just didn't click. She was overly serious during the ultrasound, zero politeness, cold… communication, zero explanation of the baby, and on top of that, there were two interns there without my permission, which really bothered me. I understand they're there to learn, but the least they could do is ask the patient's permission since they're just interns. I don't understand people and how their brains work. The worst experience of my life, oh my god, it was awful! She talked a lot with the interns but not with the baby's mother, lol. Like, I'm the one who's supposed to know what's going on with the babies and it's up to me to communicate the sizes and everything, but no, she preferred to chat with the interns as if I didn't exist. Anyway, what's certain is that I'll never again stay silent about something like that in my life. Oh yeah, then she also asked the intern to come and take the liberty of touching my stomach and doing a normal ultrasound without even asking my permission. Honestly, I left disgusted and told myself, "Never again." Forget about it. After that, we listened to some sound, I don't even know what it was exactly, a heartbeat or something else. In any case, she didn't explain anything to me, and then she left. I don't know where she left me with the girls waiting. She promised to come back, but I never saw her again. No goodbye, no thank you, nothing. It's like I almost insulted her family, but no, lol, never again.
I'm leaving a comment because I find this very serious!!! I went to the emergency room for my 11-month-old baby who had a temperature of 40.5°C at 4 a.m. They sent me home, telling me he just had a fever and that he… would get better with Nurofen. Then I went back at 4 p.m. because he still wasn't better and my baby still had a fever of 40°C. Again, they sent me home, telling me he would be better in two days by alternating Nurofen and Perdolan. The same thing happened the next day; he still wasn't better, so I decided to change hospitals and went to Delta Hospital in Auderghem. There, they did a blood test. They decided to analyze it thoroughly and found that he had an ear infection. Honestly, Brugmann Hospital in Jette should be avoided, especially for babies.
I had to wear a shawl, unfortunately, otherwise I wouldn't have worn anything at all. I waited three months for an appointment because they were hiring new psychiatrists. Surprise! Today I went to my first appointment,… hoping to finally get treatment for my ADHD. The psychiatrist scheduled an appointment for the end of December, not before. If you want real, regular follow-up, this isn't the place to go, honestly.
I absolutely do not recommend this hospital if you are expecting a child!!! A very disappointing experience regarding the birth of our first child. The midwives give you conflicting information, the pediatrician Dr.… Mathe is incompetent and rude, and examined our child for only 45 seconds!! When my wife asked her questions, she answered very curtly and even dared to say at the end that my wife had "strange questions." The gynecologist from Brugmann who came by to give discharge paperwork didn't know what the documents were and said, "These are documents I have to give you, but I don't know what they're for." No one came to give information or ask how things were going unless you called them using the call button, and even then they were very curt and made us feel like we were bothering them. There were only a few midwives like Assia and Summer who took their time, but otherwise, nothing. I absolutely do not recommend this hospital if you are going to have a child!!!
An unacceptable experience—over four hours of waiting in the emergency room when my daughter had a leg injury. We arrived at 3 p.m., it's now 7 p.m., and we still haven't been seen. This lack of consideration for a… child's suffering is unacceptable, as is the reputation of this facility.
I am deeply shocked. I called the emergency room to let them know we were coming; we've been here since noon, it's midnight as I write this; we still haven't been seen! Disgusting, despite the urgency, despite our pleas… for assistance, still NOTHING. Never go to this pigsty that passes for a hospital!
I was blamed for my arthritis problems during a consultation with Dr. A.S. in rheumatology at Brugman Hospital. This woman is absolutely useless, cold, and completely indifferent, with absolutely no empathy! She… prescribed nothing, ordered no blood tests, no X-rays, despite my explanations. So, six months later, I was diagnosed with Paget's disease of bone at St. Luc Hospital. What are we even talking about? You need to change professions, madam!
Physio not a series
They give you physiotherapy appointments, but out of three appointments, they send you a message saying the second one is cancelled. It's outrageous! I have to request time off work, and that's it. So I cancelled the… third appointment and will go somewhere else where they're more professional.
The emergency service was a disaster; they left me there with a hemorrhage.
This doesn't even deserve a "completely ridiculous" star!! They treat us like animals, even though animals are treated better!
On March 30, 2026, I made an appointment, which was scheduled by phone for July 2, 2026. On June 26, 2026, I received a cancellation notice, postponing the appointment to September 24, 2026! After a three-month wait,… I'm told six days in advance that I have to wait another three months? They could have done this sooner, and I was actually looking for another doctor! Do we really have to wait six months to see the doctor of our choice? This is unacceptable! A blatant lack of professionalism and respect for patients!
We are two young Italians who, until a few days ago, felt lost and abandoned by our home country. We came to Brugmann Hospital for the most painful decision a couple can face, but we found people willing to help us.… From our first contact with the doctors at this hospital, we found empathy and support in managing our situation. Once admitted, they allowed us to be together through every moment of this ordeal. Every test, every visit, every action I had to perform (my partner was allowed to be with me every step of the way) was followed with extreme care by OSS nurses and doctors who, despite us not speaking their language, made sure we didn't feel alone or in difficulty. I don't wish this journey upon anyone, but with them managing it, everything is "easier," if I may say so. Competent and humane people who help us find a path through this very difficult journey. We can only thank them.
Worst hospital
I called the dermatology department twice, once for 8 minutes and once for 11 minutes, but no one answered. Then I called the main switchboard, but they didn't speak and didn't hang up. It's been 14 minutes, and if I… don't hang up, no one will be able to call them back. It's just shameful for a hospital to be so unprofessional; it's no wonder they have a bad rating, and even then, I think it's excessive...
If I could give more stars, I would! My emergency was treated incredibly quickly. I sincerely thank the entire medical team for their professionalism and dedication!
⭐️ 1 star A truly dreadful experience. I arrived well in advance, but couldn't find the reception desk. The hospital maps are incomprehensible and completely useless for finding your way around. For a hospital, the… organization is simply catastrophic. Incomprehensible signage, appalling reception, and unhelpful staff. A stressful and frustrating experience. I do not recommend it.
Hello, I strongly advise against this hospital. I went to the emergency room with a suspected recurrence of an inguinal hernia. After being seen by an emergency room doctor, who confirmed after various examinations that… there was no recurrence...! However, when I was referred to my surgeon, it turned out to be a recurrence... This hospital is strongly discouraged and should be avoided. Furthermore, I am a member of the staff... A word to the wise...
I was 20 years old (I'm now 76) and was living in Canada when I developed Steven-Johnson syndrome. It wasn't diagnosed in Canada. I then moved to the USA where it was not diagnosed either. I then moved to the UK where… it was not diagnosed either. I then moved to Brussels where the clever dermatology at Brugman Univerity hospital finally diagnosed this syndrome, successfully treated me with cortisone and it has never come back! Nota: For 5 years of this appearing 4 or 5 times a year and each time I was incapacitated for 4 weeks. Thank you Brugman, I take my hat off to you!
I have never had the slightest problem during my twenty years of consultations at Brugmann University Hospital; the service is more than satisfactory for a public hospital, and the costs are half or even a third of… those at a private hospital like Chirec.
Avoid at all cost Dr Catherine VAN PACHTERBEKE, gyn
I arrived at the emergency room at 6:30 p.m. It's now 10:30 p.m., and I've been waiting for four hours. I'm experiencing dizziness, vomiting, balance problems, and a headache. Patients who arrived after me were seen… before me. I went to ask for an explanation because I've already been waiting for four hours. I was told, "You have to wait at least four hours; that's how it is for everyone." Yet, some people who arrived after me, whose situation didn't seem urgent, were seen before me. For example, a woman came in just to have her stitches checked, and she waited about two hours, while I'm experiencing dizziness, vomiting, balance problems, and a headache. I really feel like someone whose condition isn't urgent is seen before someone with more serious symptoms. I don't even know how much longer I'll have to wait. You can go into the emergency room perfectly healthy and leave even sicker. I'm simply asking for my condition to be reassessed and for clear information about my wait time.
I had surgery today with Dr. Richmanne ❤️❤️❤️ She's a true gem, incredibly competent, compassionate, super kind, and passionate with her patients. Her follow-up was meticulous ❤️💕 She took such good care of me 💕❤️ Thank… you so much, I truly don't have the words to thank her and describe her ❤️❤️❤️ Big shout-out to the E3-U22 ward, both day and night 💕 ❤️❤️❤️ Truly VIP service 🤩, incredible behavior 🥰🥰🙏🏻💕 and constant coming and going. The night nurse ❤️ it's like he's treating his brother, not a patient he doesn't even know. ❤️ Thank you so much. I won't forget the team downstairs (the anesthesiologist and everyone else, and that lovely lady who patted me on the shoulder until I fell asleep 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻) truly VIP service 💕💕 When I woke up, a gentleman with a black beard... wow, a sweetheart! No, sorry, a honey 🍯 You really wouldn't think it was a hospital 😯 It felt like I was being treated by family members 😍❤️ The person who brought me food offered me tea several times if I wanted to replace the coffee, and she set the table exactly how I wanted it. Five-star service! She was incredibly kind and helpful with a big smile ❤️❤️❤️ To sum it up, I felt like I was the The only patient today, August 14, 2026 🥰 and the only person who had surgery. Everyone was incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive 🤗🤗🤗 It's such a pleasure to encounter people like these, especially during the most difficult times in our lives. The pain is there, but their attitude truly eases it. Not to mention that several different people asked me about my pain level, and the night nurse even brought me pain medication, even though I didn't ask for it 💕💕 I'm not exaggerating: the staff isn't just waiting around, they're proactive 🥰🙏🏻🥰🙏🏻 Everything is designed for the patient's comfort. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you each and every one of you for this extraordinary experience. I'm a very difficult person, especially when it comes to medical care 🥴❌. I have unbearable behavior and a lot of trauma that I really struggle to manage 🙂↔️😏. And yet, they never once made me feel that way ❤️. I swear that today I'm only sharing my experience with you because I was shocked and impressed by the treatment and care I received today ❤️. If I had to sum it up in one sentence: they are all smiling and kind without exception, and each one of them does their job with dedication and professionalism 💕💕💕. Thank you 💕💕💕. Even as I'm writing this feedback, someone came up to me and asked if I needed a new bottle of water. ❤️ Wow 🙏🏻
