UZ Gent Detox and Rehab Services
UZ Gent is a public university hospital in Ghent whose adult psychiatry department provides both general and highly specialised psychiatric care, working as part of a wider network of mental health providers, hospitals and general practitioners. Outpatient consultations and inpatient hospitalisation are both recorded as part of adult psychiatric care here.
Addiction counselling is recorded at this department, alongside individual therapy, delivered in an integrated way that involves family and relatives where relevant. The department’s own service description doesn’t itemise its addiction-specific programmes in detail, so it’s worth asking directly what applies to alcohol- or drug-related care specifically.

How Much Does Treatment at UZ Gent Cost?
As a general university hospital rather than a dedicated addiction facility, UZ Gent’s psychiatric care doesn’t map neatly onto typical addiction-treatment cost categories; Belgian market figures for outpatient and hospital-based addiction care (roughly €1,000–€3,200 / £900–£2,800 for outpatient, up to €8,700–€21,000 / £7,500–£18,000 for hospital-based residential care) are given here as broader context only.
As a public hospital, care here may be accessible through the Belgian health insurance system (mutualité/ziekenfonds), with what’s covered depending on your residency and insurance status rather than guaranteed for every patient. Contact UZ Gent directly to ask how a referral into adult psychiatry works and what, if anything, is covered for addiction-related care specifically.

UZ Gent Reviews
If you’ve been a patient in UZ Gent’s adult psychiatry department, supported a relative through care here, or referred someone into the service professionally, sharing a review would help others understand what to expect from a large university hospital setting.
Beyond reviews, it’s worth considering a hospital’s scale, its links with other care providers, and how its psychiatric team is structured. A useful question to ask directly is how UZ Gent handles referrals specifically for alcohol- or drug-related concerns within its broader psychiatric service.
Very good service. Thank you. Qualified doctors, good nurses
On October 14, I had a colonoscopy performed. I was cared for, examined, and assisted in a very friendly and professional manner. I was treated and informed well by friendly and motivated staff... UZ Ghent is a hospital… where I feel comfortable... I come here quite often for various examinations...🍀🙏
On some days, it is best to bring your own sandwiches. Parking there is a revenue model.
No respect! There is not a single humanity in the nurses! Arrogant people walking around there! At work against their will.
I have been a patient at the Ophthalmology outpatient department for several years, and have always been warmly welcomed by everyone in this department. Top team.
My sincere thanks to the cardiac intensive care unit; top service from the nursing staff. Regards, Gino the Wolf
I am a patient of Doctor De Vos-Bevernage, Department of Orthopedics. After a second opinion, this doctor corrected the mistakes of another top surgeon with two complicated operations. In any case, Doctor De Vos has… achieved success through his younger and more up-to-date surgical methods! Hats off to him! And always with a radiant smile!! So, I went here for a check-up today after the last, rather complicated operation... I was first received in the plaster room by Sylvie, a friendly nurse who very skillfully fitted my operated foot with a new cast! Truly pleasant to visit the doctor here! I have already undergone many surgeries performed by various doctors... 2 new knee replacements, shoulder and wrist surgeries... etc. But after all these experiences... Doctor De Vos-Bevernage is clearly the best surgeon! Not only because of his results... but also because he explains everything well to the patient in clear, understandable language, in a friendly manner... and especially because of his good sense of humor... he puts his patients at ease!! Highly recommended 200%!! I would also like to thank 3 volunteers for taking me with my wheelchair from one side of the campus to the other... even though these are not their duties! They took on these tasks with great pleasure!! Namely... Laure, Marleen Van De Velde and Chis!! A big thank you!! Afterwards, an appointment with Dr. Stillaert for an update regarding the first microscopic examination for skin cancer spots. Here I was received by a friendly lady, Martine...who, even though I was in a wheelchair...came right up to me to help me further! Then by a friendly nurse, Eva...despite the busyness...still took the time (even though this isn't her job...) to take me to the exit in my wheelchair! TOP CLINIC...TOP DOCTORS AND TOP CARING STAFF!! Absolutely 200% recommended!! DE CLERCQ MARLEEN Today, Tue 31/3/2026, back for a check-up at Orthopedics, first to radiology for photos, received here by a friendly Mrs. WENDY from reception, who helped me further very helpfully...even though I had forgotten to bring a few forms...Afterwards spoke with 2 super friendly ladies, EVA and REBECCA...turn out to be 2 managers. Truly pleasant to come for a consultation at this hospital! Afterwards, with humor and again 2 friendly gentlemen, MARTIN and NIDAL, who very efficiently took the necessary photos. Great! Today, 26/5/26, back to radiology and an appointment with Doctor De Vos-Bevernage... now there was another lady at the radiology reception, Leen, just as friendly and helpful!! I think the first condition for working here at the University Hospital is that one is friendly and helpful!! Great!!! Today I made an appointment by phone for a consultation with Doctor De Vos-Bevernage, and spoke with Christina from orthopedics... she was very friendly and helpful! Thank you for that!! TOP again!! Big thanks!
UZ Ghent emergency services laughing at patients Their stuff so that means that a boy who is 22 years old who took blows earlier this evening of Friday 11 September 2026 into Saturday 12 September 2026 I already had a… rock-hard orange yes an orange to the head but I already have complaints from being beaten multiple times as a little boy but that they are laughing about that are those doctors or are they just here to laugh at people
I visited the ENT department for a sore throat. Since I am disabled and receive increased reimbursement, specialists are normally not allowed to charge high fee supplements according to the 2025 law. However, the… department I visited with ENT doctor Chloë Kastoer circumvented this by charging an extra 50 euros on the invoice for a "speech therapy assessment" (which is normally a comprehensive speech therapy examination) on top of the standard bill, even though I did not have such an assessment at all during the consultation. There was only a brief discussion about nutrition and an inspection with a camera, but absolutely no speech therapy examination. Simply a scam, designed to circumvent the law and fleece people who are already struggling financially! Scandalous of this doctor and the ENT department!
I was admitted over the past few weeks, first to the Emergency Department, where I was very satisfied—top doctors! Then on the 4th floor, Internal Medicine K12; very good care from the nursing staff, all very friendly,… caring, and helpful! A big thank you to the University Hospital.
Had a bike accident and spent a night hete. Everyone was very friendly, from the ambulance ladies, to the emergency nurse (funny lady) to the place where I spent the night. Also my bike was kept by the security guys.… Also very nice guys. Even though i broke 2 fingers i take the hospital visit as a positive experience.
What a worthless location and rude staff! I thought they had a good reputation here, but appearances are deceiving. When making an appointment, they supposedly read your file, but despite the urgency, you still have to… wait 4 months. Despite reading the file, I have to tell the same story 3 times... they just sit there staring at you as if they've seen a ghost... then another month is added on top of that, because of a little examination that needs to take place but naturally also has a waiting time... During the phone call about that (which was scheduled for 1:40 PM, but I wasn't called until 6:30 PM (!)), the connection was cut off, but the doctor didn't call back afterwards. He did suggest very unkindly that I could go to another hospital... that's quite a nice remark! I called back myself and was told that the doctor would call back in fifteen minutes... well, by now it's an hour and a half later and there's no one to reach. 👍 and I haven't been called back either. Another incident during that phone call... I ask about regulations and terms and conditions that cannot be found on the website. The response I get is that having a website isn't mandatory... 🤦♀️ that isn't my point at all. Subsequently, the staff makes multiple mistakes during a follow-up appointment, which are at the patient's expense. They don't know how to be lenient about that here. It is always the patient's fault and not due to the lousy cooperation. Filing a complaint is pointless, by the way! With the doctor in question (which the ombudsman service itself suggested), you get to tell your story after 7 months (!) during an on-site consultation for which you have to pay the full price!!! I might as well file a complaint right away. After 5 months, the ombudsman's office arrives with a forwarded response from the relevant department that has not been verified at all, allowing the department to simply blithely continue with even more lies (a telephone consultation in the meantime was suddenly possible... what nonsense... asked for it multiple times and it was absolutely not possible. No, it's not possible any sooner than 7 months... I also had to email 3 times to cancel that appointment, which I didn't ask for. Only after stating in writing that I won't be there and therefore won't be paying for it do you finally receive a confirmation of cancellation) and comments that contradict their previous practices and do not address the complaints at all. They clearly don't know what self-reflection is. They keep pointing the finger at the patient. Save yourself the trouble and just stay far away from this hospital! You wouldn't want to lose your last egg cell here, and you certainly wouldn't want to be found dead. Complete horror!
Excellent diagnosis and referred to a specialist for the specific problem. Didn't have to wait. Now with a lot of roadworks, it is best to leave earlier and walk quite a distance before you reach the right department.… The route to follow is perfectly signposted.
Transwoman POV: They took away the chances of having my own kids someday. I could not pay 300 euro's (60euros for 5 years, u can only pay per 5 or 10 years. Which is rediculous because that automatically elliminates… lower household incomes) at a time and they pushed me with their due date for payment. I coulndt pay so i let it be determinated and I think back to that moment almost every day. You cannot pay for 1 year. This system is Classist and heteronormative (since the woman told me u could pay for 1 year and she took example of a housemother and their male spouse working abroad, I didnt want to hear it). They don't care about lower income. Their endicronologue is a gate keeping belitteling white straight dude in a lab coat. I despise this clinic. I mean what do you want? It's flanders regime after all. Rich white people first then the rest.
You choke and nearly suffocate at night due to excessive mucus; you get an appointment on MARCH 5, 2027 at the earliest!!!
UZ Gent is a leading and highly professional hospital with an exceptionally wide range of specializations... The staff is very friendly, committed, and known for its strong expertise and patient-centered approach… The… hospital is excellently organized and offers high-quality, comprehensive care and guidance tailored to each patient… Thanks to the strong focus on quality and innovation, UZ Gent remains an essential and highly valued healthcare institution in Ghent…
Terrible care, maternity care is useless, they don't help you at all. No explanation, they respond very curtly as if it's too much. They are not friendly or polite.
Had super friendly staff across various departments following the procedure. Excellent support pre- and post-operatively. Thank you very much.
Very expensive to park, and that in a dump of a parking garage: old, worn-out buildings and very slow operation. For people with epileptic problems, no improvement after 10 years. Roeselare: already done more after… going in twice.
Today I went to the emergency room of this hospital for a health problem. At the reception desk, even though I spoke very little English and had to translate from my phone, the receptionist was very helpful. I walked… right in and was greeted by a nurse who immediately took my parameters. I was placed on the examination table and the doctor arrived promptly. I explained what had happened to me. Shortly afterward, a nurse took a blood sample and performed everything else that was necessary, leaving nothing out. Once the test results arrived, the doctor returned and explained the situation to me with infinite patience, helpfulness, and empathy. Overall, I was treated very well by all the staff. I can only say good things, and they deserve 5 stars. Thank you ❤️
Professor Sys and her department are a gem; what they could not find in other hospitals, Professor Sys and her department found and removed, and thereby saved my life.
Very disappointed with the emergency department at UZ Gent. We waited for more than two hours with our baby, barely one month old, who had a fever. When we were finally seen, the doctor said that the temperature had… dropped from 37.8 °C to 37.6 °C and that we could just go home. Because we did not trust this, we measured the temperature ourselves again. It was 37.9 °C. We confronted the doctor named Reuken Veld with this, but received no clear explanation. As a result, we lost confidence and went immediately to the Maria Middelares Hospital. There, our baby developed a fever of over 38 °C. He was immediately taken seriously, underwent blood tests and other tests, and ultimately turned out to be positive for the coronavirus. Because he is only one month old, he was admitted for observation. If we had followed the advice of the doctor at UZ Gent, our baby would have been sent home without further examination with a rising fever and an infection. As a parent, I found that frightening and irresponsible. Someone who shows so little empathy for a baby barely a month old should not be working in an emergency department. To me, it felt as if the man just wanted to send us home as quickly as possible, without taking our concerns seriously. I am prepared to file a further complaint; this cannot continue. We are talking about the life of a 1-month-old child..
