How Much Does Treatment at Community Addiction Unit – Cardiff Cost?
As an NHS Wales service, the Community Addiction Unit provides outpatient assessment and treatment at no direct cost to eligible residents of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, with access depending on residency and referral rather than self-pay. For context, private outpatient treatment in the Cardiff area typically runs from about £1,200 to £4,000 a month, though that reflects private provision rather than this NHS service.
Because access runs through the health board rather than direct payment, the most useful step is to ask how a referral into the unit or the wider Cardiff and Vale Drug and Alcohol Service partnership works, and what an initial assessment involves.

Community Addiction Unit – Cardiff Reviews
If you’ve used this service, supported a family member through it, or referred a client here as a healthcare professional, sharing a review can help other people in Cardiff and the Vale know what to expect.
As part of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, the unit’s standards sit with the health board and the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales framework rather than a separate private accreditation. A good question to ask is how the unit coordinates with the wider CAVDAS partnership once you’re referred.
