About Drug ARM – Bowen

Drug ARM runs a free alcohol and other drug service from Shop 6 at 36 Powell Street in Bowen, Queensland. The office offers counselling for anyone worried about their own use, from the age of 12 upwards, plus support for family members and significant others. Anyone can make an appointment.

The main programme at Bowen is Creating Options, twelve weeks of weekly counselling and case management covering relapse prevention and coping skills. Two family programmes also run from the office: Breakthrough for Families Qld, and Breakthrough Our Way for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families affected by someone else’s use. Referrals are open, staff match each enquiry to a programme, and a waiting list can apply.

Drug ARM Counselling Services

Drug ARM’s Bowen office is a counselling and case management service, not a rehab or withdrawal unit. Creating Options runs for twelve weeks, with weekly one-to-one sessions covering relapse prevention, coping skills and practical case work, and the whole service is non-residential.

Alongside the individual stream, Breakthrough for Families Qld supports relatives and friends in their own right, and Breakthrough Our Way does the same for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. Young clients aged 12 to 17 are seen as well as adults. No medications, detox, group therapy or aftercare programme is named for the Bowen site, so ask the intake team where those sit within the wider organisation.

Where Is Drug ARM?

Drug ARM’s Bowen office is at Shop 6, 36 Powell Street, Bowen, Queensland, postcode 4805. The address is a shopfront rather than a clinical building, so a first visit is less conspicuous than attending a hospital campus, and the intake side of the service is handled centrally by phone.

Intake is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:30pm on 07 3620 8880, or by email to intake@drugarm.com.au. Referrals are open, so no letter from a doctor is needed. Because Creating Options runs on a weekly cycle and a waiting list can apply, call to confirm an appointment time before travelling to Powell Street.

How Much Does Treatment at Drug ARM Cost?

Drug ARM charges no fee at its Bowen office. Counselling, the twelve-week Creating Options programme, case management and both family programmes are government-funded and free to attend, for clients worried about their own use and for relatives seeking support in their own right.

Nothing in the research names a private rate, an insurance pathway or a co-payment for this office. What the twelve weeks do ask of you is time: a weekly appointment, plus travel into Bowen. A waiting list can apply, so the sooner you call the central intake line, the sooner a place can be arranged.

Drug ARM Reviews

Reviews of Drug ARM’s Bowen office from around the web are limited, which is common for free regional counselling services. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for this site, and anyone who has worked through Creating Options or attended a family programme in Bowen is welcome to share what the experience was like.

Online comment about the wider organisation tends to concern its head office and its larger city programmes, not the Bowen shopfront. Detail about the wait before a first session, how the weekly counselling was paced over twelve weeks, and whether Breakthrough Our Way felt culturally safe would tell a local family far more than a general score.
