About PsychMed Matrix – South West (Seaview Downs)

PsychMed Matrix – South West serves Adelaide’s southern coastal suburbs from Seacombe Road at Seaview Downs, providing abstinence-oriented intensive outpatient treatment to adults aged 18 and over who use methamphetamine or cocaine, including those using opioids as well. Psychologists run the programme, which carries no cost.

The first 16 weeks are intensive: seven group sessions over three days a week, with individual sessions and family work woven in. A weekly support group follows for 36 weeks, and contact continues for a year after that. The Matrix group meets at 10:00 am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Lived-experience co-facilitators share the room with the psychologists, and clients on drug replacement therapy are accepted.

PsychMed Matrix – South West Alcohol and Drug Services

At Seaview Downs, PsychMed Matrix – South West offers intensive outpatient treatment, aftercare, outpatient counselling, assessment and referral, and outreach. Group therapy does the heavy lifting, aimed at methamphetamine and cocaine use including combined use with opioids, with individual counselling running in parallel.

Family involvement is formalised through conjoint sessions and eight family support sessions, and peer support is provided by co-facilitators with lived experience as well as mutual support groups. Mental health is noted alongside substance use without specific conditions being named. This is not a withdrawal service and no medications are listed, so anyone needing detox first would arrange that separately.

PsychMed Matrix – South West Reviews

Reviews of PsychMed Matrix – South West from around the web are limited, which is common for a programme built around regular group sessions. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for this service, and anyone who has attended at Seaview Downs is encouraged to share what the experience was like.

Prospective clients in the southern suburbs usually want to know practical things: how the Monday, Wednesday and Friday rhythm worked with other commitments, whether the room felt supportive, how the move to weekly meetings went. An account from someone who completed the Matrix programme here would answer that better than any general impression.

The reception staff are all very welcoming and friendly, and communication is always clear and thorough, which is a big deal for me. My psychologist, Dr Ross Comley, is fantastic. I'm terrified of men but he's a very… comfortable and easy person to talk to. I never feel condescended to, or disbelieved, or at all like I'm less than a whole person. After years of trying other clinics to get even a diagnosis sorted out, Dr Ross has been the first to actually do it! I've had so many doctors say "yea, you have PTSD" but never received a diagnosis until now. They're also a very forgiving practice if you have financial struggles, as they have allowed me to pay the next day, or even a few days down the line when I was struggling financially. I'll probably be coming here until I don't need help anymore, because I'm actually making progress thanks to these lovely people.

PsychMed has been fantastic, especially my psychologist Eilish. She has been such a huge help in supporting me through my parenting worries. Eilish is compassionate, understanding, and makes me feel truly heard. She has… given me practical strategies that I can actually use in day-to-day life, and I already feel lighter and more confident in handling challenges. I’m very grateful for her guidance and the safe, supportive space she provides.

As a person who has been on a Disability Support Pension for over 20 years I could not be happier with my Psychologist and the terrific receptionist. Have been looking for a suitable Psychologist for some years and am… grateful. Professional, kind and understanding thank you.

Based on first impressions this place smelt bad and was not welcoming... the staff looked unprofessional the way they presented themselves which I saw through open doors with one bloke in an ill fitted suit coughing all… over the place... I walked in got told to sit and wait then I walked out. Horrible first experience!

Very incompetent and careless. I was referred here by my doctor in September. I saw a psychologist about 3 weeks after the referral. As expected once the psychologist knew of my diagnosis she said she wasn’t experienced… in that specific mental illness. I was told by this psychologist that it was okay and she could still get me help in the clinic. She sent my clinic referral to one of the so called psychiatrists.. I didn’t hear anything for a month so I rang up. I was sent in circles yet again being told they could still help me and that my referral had been sent. They re assured me. I was assured it was help at the same psychmed clinic too. I ring up again about a month after my last phone call to find out they’ve not done anything and to be told only psychologists are available at this clinic. That’s weird since one of your psychologists specifically told me psychiatrists work at that facility and that there is help available for people like me. I’ve completely given up on the system. I have been left to deal with it on my own. They were aware of my suicid*al thoughts and acts of self harm. Please hold these people responsible if anything should happen to me.

Constantly cancelling and giving dates 4-5 months ahead. I've been retriaged three times and my appointments from December and February were cancelled via text with no follow up. Can't even get them by phone or email.… Wouldn't even bother.

Very disappointed with communications from this clinic. Discovered that my initial appointment in February had been cancelled when I nervously arrived for my very first time at the front door of this clinic... A sign on… the door told me that the clinic was closed until further notice (i.e. no phone call, no message). If I'd known earlier, I wouldn't have taken the time off work. Received an SMS in early March advising that my 3 March appointment had been cancelled... Again, no follow-up phone call to ensure that I had received this message. Received an SMS and phone call on 18 May checking that I was planning to attend the appointment we'd made for 19 May - I confirmed that I was. Received an SMS on 19 May advising that the appointment had been cancelled... Again, no follow-up phone call to ensure that I had received this message.

Very dissapointed by the staffs lack of knowledge regarding the Medicare rebate. Have waited 2 weeks with no rebate and numerous calls regarding the issue only to find out they put the wrong person as the claimant.… Management did not return my call and I'm stuck waiting another 5 days for a rebate that I spent 2hours on the phone to Medicare to resolve. Very dissapointed.
