No psychiatrists or counselors recommend this place. Whoever is in charge of this disgusting place, should be reported or they should be closed down

This is strictly about the inpatient rehab facility I had did a separate review on the hospital st John's which was much nicer than this will be and that's on them I'm very honest and fair with reviews. I'll start with… the few good people who I delt with on my floor 5 north about 2 months ago. Patrick my social worker thankfully I was switched to him because my original casac counselor was terrible and very dishonest and unhelpful but she clearly has no supervision because she doesn't care if she's nasty or unhelpful or mean to clients. All of my property was lost in the hospital which eventually it was reimbursed because of two men who actually were there for the hospital and the patients and clients. I'll get back to them though. I went to my prior counselor oju I believe her name was I can't remember now but I'm pretty sure and was asking for email address to director and phone extension. I was perfectly calm and anyone else who's property had been missing for 3 weeks with no help at all would have went ballistic well I never did until that day because she was paying Bills and texting and I guess I bothered her busy schedule of paying her bills and texting. She said wait until Monday and you can talk to them I don't have the email or phone number for you. So her attitude and not even being considerate I got pissed and said like WTF this is bullshit if this was your stuff missing you would want help also. She started screaming at me and spit food on me from her lunch I guess not on purpose but didn't apologize. I knew I'd get nowhere so I went by the nurses desk so she could hear me ask for a grievance sheet and I'd be calling Oasas nys to complain. Well I found out she reported I said something completely different she claims and I have witnesses who heard everything I had actually said. She filled a paper to put me on contract for saying she needs to go back to her country in Africa which I didn't know where she was ever from never discussed that but to make me look horrible she lied. Now clearly her supervisor and others knew it was bullshit because for my safety I would have been moved to another floor because that's extremely racist and I was the only white patient 4 most of my time there and never had an issue ever with other staff even after the lie was put out there. She abuses her power like most casac counselor types because they used to be us so there not All Bible thumper people and fair and honest it's happening All the time in those positions. You have to walk on eggshells around them or one letter to social services your sanctioned and homeless it's horrible. There are good people there though she was one bad apple out of the bunch. Luckily I ended up getting Patrick and he is far above a casac counselor in schooling and very smart and he really goes out of his way for you and he saw I was starting to lose it over next step housing and my property being blown off like it didn't matter. He's going to be doing big things at some point probably a director of a program because of his care for patients that isn't even his and working on days off to get things done. I'll never forget him. Also kerrin hopefully I'm spelling it right she was in charge of the nurses and she was way more than that role and was patient and helped me and she had a lot going on those few weeks with internal things happening in the rehab she never cracks always helpful and polite and smiling. I said I'm surprised she wasn't the director of everything because she is a young woman but so smart in every area of that position and what is going on in every department. Alot of nurses were friendly but they had a fair share of unhappy or disgruntled one's as well. I always love being in hospitals because of the nurses always amazing and going out of their way for people. These ladies I think had it with rude and danmanding patients and I get that but then you should have signed up for a none rehab position because that's never going to change in detox or rehabs people are miserable depressed coming off can't add anymore

Been clean for years now but I can’t express how much this place was pivotal to my recovery. Although there’s a long wait, their 3 day detox saved me in my darkest moments.

I went here after my local ER failed me and kept sending me home with alcohol poisoning / withdrawals. I can’t speak for everyone or every program, but I felt very cared for. I told them I needed a hot shower because I… couldn’t regulate my body temp and the nurse had someone come and clean the shower for me. I had to sit on the FLOOR, of essentially a public shower I was so sick. But it still felt clean. The shower head was odd and too powerful, but again, available and CLEAN! I was properly cared for, and if you EVER need help, they’re in your room quickly. Medications are taken seriously and used appropriately and given regularly. I was woken up to take my meds, which is probably the only reason I woke up without pain or nausea. I spent very little time here, but it was very pleasant and the staff very caring. I haven’t even had a hangover post care at this facility, but if I ever struggled again, I’d admit myself here willingly. Staff makes the entire program worth it, and they’re (in my experience as of mid 2025) excellent :)

The hospital part is excellent. The detox unit is a nightmare. Many patients are court ordered by nys to attend detox to lesson prison time. They have long criminal charges and prior time incarcerated. They have zero… interest in recovering from anything using addiction to manipulate the NYS court of their criminality. Detox has higher rewards that prison. Criminals know this. Attending a detox can lesson their prison sentences. That why they agree to " detox". No prison cells either. Criminals who are avoiding prison admit to substance abuse because a detox is better than prison. The staff and patients are completely unsafe and untrained working here, due to their lack of criminality education , not medical skills.Assaults on staff and patients are high without any including legal consequences. The security staff reports nothing . Security staff is NOT law enforcement. I saw 6 assault in one week. Not to mention the ones I didn't. They have zero authority. I commend the staff who work on this unit , yet they are in serious danger daily. So are are patients not court mandated seeking true recovery. This is the truth. I was NYS law enforcement for NYS 35 yrs . I was an undercover agent in this detox for a week. If you are interested in detox, recovery, I commend you. Do not go to this detox program Your life will be in jeopardy. Go to a fantastic facility that will give you excellent help. You deserve to get well and start your life over, no matter what you have been through. You can have a fantastic future.

I’m deeply concerned about the St. John's Riverside Hospital’s treatment program for drug addicts operating near schools. Instead of helping the community, it appears to be worsening the situation and compromising… neighborhood safety. There have been numerous incidents involving unstable individuals causing serious problems in the area. They need to end that type of program it’s not helping the community at all!

DGTY My name is Dave D Martin I entered St John's, Jan/5/2024 The process was nothing I expected, Security officers confused me even more (reminder of Rickers Island) but to my surprise the young and the old heads… security officers were respectful, officer Cruz the OG stay cool. The medical staff worked thoroughly to assist with researching, diagnosing my health conditions and concerns. The counselors Amazingly Great Group I am a fan forever. Knowing I can be tough even to get to know - the staff proved me wrong. Meeting Tara P. For Art Therapy brought a calm I needed, it opened my mind and led me to being more open to the staff members. The daily Group Meetings WOW, My life forever changed. From the Group meetings I have evolved, made me recognize my Triggers cannot control them but I've learned to practice Mindfulness and Healthy boundaries. The dietitians and nutritionist are top rated in my book of professionals ,the meals provided are nutritious and well balanced 👍. We are all human without mistakes and misfortunes we can't be. I am an Alcoholic , St John's you have been a lamp for my feet ,A light for my Path. Godspeed

This place was so dysfunctional. I couldn’t get a counselor to listen to me for longer than 10 min. As soon as I said I want my family involved the staff changed the way they treated me. They were not concerned about my… well being. I pray if my family members ever need this facility I pray to God they take of them as if they were a part of their own family.

Those who perform sonograms should do their job more professionally because if they don't focus properly on the problem, the patient will die! Hire more experienced people with a true vocation for saving lives!

Place was dirty I almost cried seeing my grandma there. She informed me they will stop listening to the call button by 8 pm and if you have to use the bathroom you would do it in your pants leading to and infection.… There were only about three good people there one being a janitor. When we took my grandma out of there they were not nice at all saying that it was going to be embarrassing when she came back. Do not send you loved ones here it is a wast of time and will scar them for the rest of their lives. You are better off treating them at home. We are never coming back

I want to thank this amazing team for the care of my dad. I want to thank Nurse Margaret and Monica, Yolande(?) and the many others that have touched my dad's care. You all were so great. All of the people who smiled at… me behind the desk on my daily visits to my dad.. I recommend this place. They do listen, which is important when you are talking about the care of a loved one. Thank you!

Beware. Especially when you are black and darkskin and dealing with mental heath the area clinics in yonkers are prescribing BUPAR , when this drug is discontinued and off the market. . This medication is poison. Also… Beware of staff labeling Black People as methadone patients. They are trying to label us with mental illness , so they can proceed getting us in the hospital to experiment on us. Black People please look out for each other and be super aware.

My family member was discharged from the hospital to go to rehab. He is on heart medication and blood thinners. They had him waiting from 2pm until after midnight to be admitted. They did not give him his much needed… medication and I had to pick him up at 1230am to take him home. Now he does not even want to go to rehab because of this experience. This place is horrible. The staff, especially the lady in admitting is very nasty. Not a good luck when you're the face of the company. DO NOT send your loved ones here. I still haven't gotten his medication. This happened 7 hours ago. I am going crazy trying to get him his medication and the pharmacy doesnt open until 9am. This place really sucks.

St. John's is a 95% Medicaid/Medicare funded facility. I think people overlook that it is the patients, not the staff, that create the atmosphere and living conditions- ie, if your roommate insists on completely… destroying the bathroom with urine and feces and flushing paper towels down the toilet clogging it EVERY DAMN DAY, you can't expect the medical staff to rush right in and clean it up. That's a union issue. Only housekeeping can do the cleanup. It has been my experience that simply being thankful, respectful and cleaning up after yourself goes a very long way with the staff. When the staff sees that someone just wants to start the journey towards recovery from addiction, nearly 100% will bend over backwards for you. And, just to point out, any company with a staff of over 100 will have its share of lemons. But you can't allow one under-performer be a reflection on the entire organization. These ratings are just unfair. If you put in the work to get better, the staff rewards you 10-fold. If you act like your entitled, and that Medicaid is YOUR money being misused- Wake UP. It's quality detox unit that you don't pay a single dime for out of your wallet. Hell, 50% of the patients there have never paid a dollar in taxes in their entire life.
