So this place isn’t good but it isn’t bad. The unit was a mess, and some of staff just were not great at all, but there were other staff there who were great and you know it made up for some of the loss. My experience… as a resident in the four months I’d been there was.. up and down, I’ve been in fights, and have argued with certain staff, BUT Being there has taught me a lot of patience, which in the real world you need. And what made the place even better was my therapist Mrs. Marilyn Shine. Now Mrs. Marilyn hands down just might be the best therapist down there. The way she is and how she moves and speaks is just absolutely phenomenal, when I first met her, I wasn’t going too treat her any other different than the therapists I’ve already seen. “I’m not depressed” “im fine” everything was okay, but it wasn’t, and she saw right through all of it, I may have able too fool and scare off other therapists, but not her! She was patient with me. She let ME lead. She waited. If I was in crisis, hurt, being disrespectful, disconnected, she was still the same warm, guiding, waiting.. and most of all. Patient Mrs Marilyn Nothing ever changed. And I admire and respect that. No therapist has ever gotten a break through with me. I promised myself I’d never let anyone catch me crying. I thought crying was weak. Embarrassing. Therapist, family, person. But that day. In her office, she just knew what too say. And I cried. She gave me a reason to let go. To let go of all the hurt I had experienced, that backpack full of hurt, sorrow, depression, anxiety.. she took it off. Mrs Marilyn, I hope you see this and know that I mean everything I said and Everything that I’m going to say I mean, thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart. I believe God put me on this path to meet a person like you. I prayed for guidance and for him to send me someone to guide me and I received . I’m different I can feel it and it is because of you. I know you said I did the work, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it if you hadn’t open the door for me and planted the seed. So. I thank you. GIVE THIS WOMAN A RAISE RIGHT NOW. ✨
Was there over a year . Some staff were great but the place was overall absolutely terrible, favoritism, drama, fights and horrible staff. litterly hell .
If you love your kids please avoid this place. This is very all over the place i apologize and lots more happened like attempts on my life that were unfortunately unsuccessful, more drama, hippa violations, rule… breaking on staff ends and other things but ive ranted long enough and this was getting way too long. TLDR; fights, drama, more fights, and even more fights. This place was terrible and i hated every minute i was there but i still sometimes miss it in a sick way like some kind of stock home syndrome.
If I could give this place a zero star review, I WOULD. I stayed here for around 4 months. There were some pros, like meeting friends that had similar things going on that I had, but the cons most definitely outweighed… the pros. I came to Three Rivers Midlands to get help from my mental health, self harm and suicide ideation. In all reality, this place gave me severe PTSD. Fights, staff putting hands on me, lying to my parents about me, and writing me up for the most absurd things like not wanting to do a group we've repeated 8 MILLION TIMES. One example of this is: I was on something called bathroom protocol. This means a staff member is REQUIRED to stand INSIDE of the bathroom and physically WATCH YOU while in the bathroom. Most staff, however, did not do this. Instead, they stood outside the door, leaving it wide open, for other residents to see. I was on the "Kars" unit, so it's coed, and as you can see why this would be uncomfortable, it was. Anyway, they used to just stand outside the door and occasionally call your name and wait for an answer. One day, I tried to do something that caused me to be unresponsive on the floor. A tech came in, and I really do feel so bad for putting her in that position, but she called the nurses and I woke up. The nurses then told my parents that I LAUGHED in the nurses faces when I woke up. Another example: On the playground, we were doing backflips on a sit up type bar. I attempted to do so, and I fell straight on my back. I informed them that it hurt really badly, and I had broken my back 5 years prior and needed to get an x-ray. They completely dismissed that, and made me lay down in bed and told my parents I was fine. I would ESPICALLY like to say a couple things about Miss. Kenya, The activities director. She always had an attitude with me and a constant negative attitude around me. I tried to express this to multiple staff, and in turn, she did absolutely NOTHING. And 9 times out of 10, we would repeat the same activities, and even when it was very hot outside, she would make us walk laps around the big field by the gym/school. And, if we chose to sit out, it would be considered a "Treatment Refusal" and we would get written up for it, which may add time to your stay. In all reality, I think this is a whole scam for money. Although, there are staff that I absolutely adore and praise the ground they walk on. For example: Ms. Sam (she was new when I was there), Ms. Dash (both of them), Coach (he was absolutely amazing and was always there for me emotionally, physically, and spiritually), and lastly Jasmine Wilson (Ms. Jazz). During the summer she left for college, but she did say she was going to be coming back. She was the first person I talked to when admitted. She had such a positive attitude, and I literally praise her. Along with Ms. Dash. Sorry for the monologue, it's 12:00AM and I felt that this stuff needed to be shared.
I’m Anthony Langley Was her for 4 months and it was absolutely amazing, shout out to me kowme and Mr Matthew benett they where the nicest people to me there wait also ms.T she bought me stuff and respected me and I… thought it sucker but naw i would want to go back I find that my life is mad boring now that I discharged and I would recommend sending your kid here
I was at Three Rivers Midlands for 1 month and 4 days (May 4th 2026-June 8th 2026). This place is nothing like they say. Majority of the staff is rude and does not care. I have multiple examples of how staff acted. 1. I… had code 3'd (elopement, even though i walked) and the staff member who caused me to get to that point followed me. I have issues with being around men in general and when he called another male staff for backup i tried to keep my calm. I was using my coping skill of walking, and they did not want me too. They gave me less than 1 minute to walk the field. When I refused to go back to the unit, both male staff grabbed my arms and pulled them out to be outstretched. Almost like a crucifix position. They held my arms incredibly tight and left bruises. My arms were in pain for about a week, and had purple, black, yellow, and green discoloration. I kept trying to force myself out of their grasp because I have issues with men, as previously stated. 2. Another experience I have is constantly being yelled at. We couldnt be loud, we couldnt go outside, we could only use coping skills on the residential counselors time. One of the patients would constantly start issues with other patients and the staff would do absolutely nothing about it. 3. I watched about 5-7 staff hold down one patient at one time. One of the staff was SITTING ON TOP OF HER. Which I find absolutely insane and unprofessional. 4. Multiple staff members are so incredibly rude. Ms. Kenya, Ms. Fatima, Mr Tyreek, Mr Wilson (one of the male staff who caused me to have bruises), Ms. T and more. Ms Kenya constantly had an attitude and a nasty tone of voice towards me. Very few staff helped me through my episodes, I had a really bad panic attack and all they did was take me outside. I didnt feel safe going back inside due to another patient who was apart of the reason I had a panic attack. They still forced me to go inside. After I had REPEATEDLY said I didnt feel safe. And when I (reluctantly) went inside they did nothing to keep the other girl away from me. (edit) I was also choked out by 2 different patients, and they had little to no options for my gluten allergy. I mostly ate salads. That's only a small bit of my experience there, I went in with anxiety, ptsd, and severe depressive episodes. When I left, I left with even more anxiety, trauma and even worse episodes. Please do not send your child here. This place causes more trauma.
i just got discharged from 3 rivers midlands is bad but not so bad like it’s not terrible the people may be kinda scary and some staff may not care but there really is some great staff there and especially the therapist… all the therapist are very sweeet and caring my therapist was mrs marilyn she is one of the most sweetest and caring person i knew there i love you Mrs. Marilyn!! thank you 3 rivers midlands 4-15-26 / 7-3-26
This place absolutely sucks. Ive been here and the only thing it does is make it worse. Ive been here 2 times and im traumatized.
Networked with Courtney Payne at a recent event! She cares greatly about the mission and was very pleasant to talk with
Editing this sorry my fault i normally dont but they way they broke my arms i didnt get too specific so i drew a diagram showing i was put in a cruxifix kind of position then got my legs kicked out while being held like… this breaking my arms giving them fractures so i still felt the pain unlike a clean break. Jesus still loves yall by the way. My heart to anyone else who went during the 2019-20 year.. as we were kept during lockdown. Also i still remeber all the names shout out my dawg d.j and Godbless val... she went through hell on earth in there. I still got the short end of the stick. I have videographic and photo graphic memory so i remember alot since i was two. I think there is a name for that but i forgot the name.. anyways Jesus loves yall. ✝️❤️ it I went here back in 2020 as a teen and they beat me they broke my arms and then also put me on heavy pills so I would sleep they kept us locked in there they beat the other kids for no reason my roommate or cell mate cause we were not allowed out got swung into the brick wall head first by a staff for coming out. We were not allowed any TV time and we were not allowed to make paper airplanes either as that was one thing we found fun but once they saw we were having fun they took all the paper away one time I had to use the bathroom while we were outside and they laughed at me and told me to go on myself so I did then they laughed again. Also one time we were locked in the living room cause a young lady got mad when we came out there was a blood trail on the floor. Happy I got the lucky end with just beatings and broken arms I could have ended up like that girl where nothing was left of her but a simple blood trail on the floor only to be washed away by a mop. also if you got to call your parents (rarely happens) and tell them about the abuse they cut the line then they re call after your brought back to your room and they tell them everythings ok. do not send your kids here as i was abused as countless others were and i witnessed a murder #rip. also either a new fence was in or its a fake photo but this is what we had. A tall fence that made it hard to get out it was taller than the building.
I was discharged from Midlands about a year ago, and I can only say my experience was awful, to say the least. I was there for about a month during the most difficult time in my life and it didn't really help me at all.… There were multiple times where staff PHYSICALLY hurt me, weather that being grabbing me extremely hard and pulling me out of bed, or twisting my arm and holding it painfully behind my back. Most of the staff was rude, ESPECIALLY Mrs. Kenya And Miss Fatima. And one of the staff-I can't remember his name but he told me that if I 'actually wanted to kms' there was a brick wall over there I could bash my head into. Some of the staff were actually extremely nice though! Like Miss Celina and Mrs Latoya! The days were exhausting and most of the time I found myself bored, drawing in my journal with the provided dried-up markers, half without lids, since they wouldn't let me use my own. Phone time? Awful. The phones barely worked and were like 20 years old. There was also a boy in the same unit as me during my time there making me uncomfortable and nobody did anything about it. He talked to me multiple times about all the weird and dirty things he wanted to do with me. I expressed this to the staff and they did nothing. I made out with a few girls there though. That was cool. Anyways, yeah. If you're thinking of sending your kid here, don't. Find somewhere else, anywhere else. Please.
*0 star rating * (I only gave this place a 1 star bc I was made to) This place is HORRIFIC! the nurses lie to you, the doctor won't you your meds, even if you were taking them at home, I have CHF and they never gave me… my antibiotics or my stroke medicine, the place is dirty and disgusting! They never have any thing stocked, It's FREEZING in there and they only give you a small blanket. The groups were terrible too! In the groups people will talk so loudly over the next person I would have to leave the room! Mr.Sebastian and Ms.Jay are the best people there and I believe those two individuals should get a raise!
Please do not send your child here! This is nothing but a prison! The staff members are not honest at all ! All they do is tell you lies. Staff is abusive to the kids. This place needs to be investigated and closed down… immediately. They will take your child’s belongings (shoes etc) and point out that 3 rivers is not responsible for lost or stolen property. All the kids do is fight in there with no consequences what so ever not even for a stabbing ! They don’t report anything or call the police because they know there is abuse, violence and neglect going on in their by staff . If your child or grandchild needs help for trauma please do not send them to Three Rivers because this place is even more traumatic. It changes them & they adapt to the toxic environment. Then you have to take them to get help from the help they went there to get . This review is me being nice
I was there when the was 14 and 15. There were a lot of good staff, but there were several cases of staff using excessive restraint forces, hurting me when I was going through SH and SI. When the patients there were… going through a mental health crisis, staff did very poorly at calming them down, often leaving them there ignoring them until it gets to a point they self harm or do something to end their life. Nurses think that I did everything for attention, and wouldn’t help me when I felt sick. I left this facility worse than I ever did. I do NOT recommend sending your child here.
Only one staff member was nice to me and didnt treat me badly like the other ones. This place didnt even help me, the doctors dont listen to their patients and put me back on meds that dont help me. Beds are awful and… its freezing cold in there to a point where its unbearable, we weren't even allowed to have blankets on us in the main area where everyone sits. The food in the cafeteria is disgusting and beyond salty, I wouldnt be surprised if someone's heart gave out from the amount of salt they put on the food. Ill never come back.
It was honestly really helpful... I just feel like we should have better showers and beds. They sent this to me after discharge
This facilty is the worst every - My son was there for five day. During that time - My husband and I called several times daily to speak to a counselor, doctor, patient advocate. We drove up there and we were told no… one was avail. Left my number - never received a call back. The kept him there for 5 days - which is what the insurance company allows. On day 5 I got a phone call from my son that he was being discharged in an hour. When I got there he was in the lobby waiting for me. He was unkept. The cloths I brought for him he was never given. He had the same cloths on that he arrived in. There was no discharge plan, family intervention meetings or a plan of action helping my son. NOTHING but a hugh bill that was sent to collections. I tried several time to call and discuss this bill but no one was avail or called me back. ADVOID this faciliy at all cost. To your response to my review which is below - I have tried to get this issue resolve with Ty Salter - Financial Counselor , Avis McBride - Patient Advocate, Barbara Philip - Business Director and Tocoma - Nuring Supervisor The only communcation I have received was from a collection agency. How dare you even try to post a comment stating for me to contact you. You all have my phone number. Pick up the phone and dial. ??????
... I've just recently discharged. i spent 6 months there. The staff weren't the problem at all...it was the kids. fights left and right, all the time. run aways, and self-harm. I tried committing suicide a lot… there...but not because of the staff. it was a mixture of my trauma and some of the kids. a lot of the kids were great and helped...but some weren't... some would say it was for attention. I'm giving it 3 stars because the staff were good to me...it was the environment that deteriorated me slowly.... I'm sorry. My therapist was amazing. I'll always look up to her. the higher ups were always respectful. and for that I'm grateful. I'm just not as better as i wanted to be... im no longer in South Carolina...and im happy. but im never going to forget my trauma of seeing multiple kids try killing themselves in front of me, or self harming in front of me...i got sent to the hospital once for almost succeeding in off-ing myself... i have nightmares about it. i know this facility is about letting things out and opening up to help you heal but..in all honesty? i've gotten better at hiding my emotions from everyone. I've left with more scars..both Physically and Mentally. this is my true and honest opinion... Im sorry but im also not because im telling the truth... Thank you for listening to me. please Midlands. dont tell me to contact you. i will deny. i want to try and forget this place...
That place is a zoo. Went to get our day and the nurse was reading us another patients chart. We asked for a little more help and they refused.
I had a ok time Ms. L was very nice to me Ms. Miranda was very nice to everyone she helped me out when I was crying I had one friend and the only bad thing that did happen was during groups a boy forced me to touch his… dick... I have major ptsd so I cried that night Ms. Kayla (I think that's her name) was a amazing tech! ♡ they played lil peep for me when we could request music (alot of other places I been to didnt!!) I did so well I got out after being there for only 5 days! some of these reviews are different opinions but other than that I got out happy !!! ♡♡
Shut this place down
I want to start by saying this: many of the staff at 3 Rivers Midlands genuinely cared. Some of them were kind, patient, and did their best every single day in a system that constantly failed them. I’m grateful for… those few who showed real compassion. But the truth is, the people running that place—the administration, leadership, and especially Dr. Praylow—are the reason I left that facility with more trauma than I walked in with. My experience at 3 Rivers was horrifying. I was involved in fights constantly—not because I was violent, but because the environment was dangerous and the administration refused to keep anyone safe. I was targeted, attacked, and forced to defend myself, and then labeled “aggressive” like I was the problem. I wasn’t protected. I wasn’t helped. I was thrown into chaos and punished for reacting like a human being trying to survive. And Dr. Praylow… she was one of the worst parts of the whole experience. She didn’t treat patients—she drugged them. That was her answer for everything. Instead of actually talking to kids, trying to understand what was really going on, or offering real support, she overmedicated us. I saw kids turned into shells of themselves under her so-called care. Her energy was cold, dismissive, and controlling. If you questioned her, she took it personally. If you spoke up for yourself, she labeled you difficult. It felt like punishment, not psychiatry. She’s not someone who should be in charge of vulnerable young people. Her methods are not about healing—they’re about control and compliance. And honestly, she felt corrupt. She didn’t care about what was best for anyone. She cared about power and covering herself. That kind of energy has no place in a mental health facility. To make things worse, 3 Rivers also violated the EMTALA patient dumping statute when I was moved without a proper discharge plan or any consideration for my wellbeing. That’s not just negligence—it’s illegal. They treated me like I was disposable. Like I didn’t matter. And through it all, it was the staff on the floor—the ones who talked to me like a person, who broke up fights, who checked in on us when we were crying or shut down—those were the only ones who ever tried to help. But they were trapped in a system that gave them no real support. They couldn’t save us from the way this place was run. If you’re a parent, guardian, or anyone considering 3 Rivers Midlands for a loved one—please don’t. What happened to me was not okay. What I saw happen to others was not okay. This place broke people, not because of the staff on the floor, but because of the toxic leadership at the top—especially Dr. Praylow. This place needs to be investigated, held accountable, and completely restructured. Nobody deserves what I went through.
Would not recommend. I am a parent of the patient and a nurse for 35 years and it was a useless experience. He got no help and ended up worse shape and readmitted within a week of them saying he was ok for discharge.… They did nothing and the communication was terrible. It was a waste of time and money. Choose another place.
This place is horrible, I was there for 2 months and in that 2 months I got beat up, got my underwear and other items stolen multiple times, most of the staff don’t are rude, dismissive, and disrespectful. The rooms and… bathrooms are filthy. The “psychiatrist” dopes you up on medicine, you never see her, when you do it’s for 5 minutes. Glorified baby sitting.
What in the world has happened to this place??????? I myself was there in the 90s. It sure has gone down hill!!!!!! I would never recommend this to no one. Is it just a money thing now?? As far as getting help for the… ones you love.. go anywhere else!!
My daughter was sent to three rivers to learn coping mechanisms for PTSD due to being a s/a victim, this place was no help at all. When I went to visit her this place was very nasty! The floor was very sticky, by my… daughter's 2nd day due to it, it was so bad she asked a staff member for a stack of cleansing wipes. The staff allowed her to use them and gave her gloves, she got on her hands and knees attempting to clean. By time she got near done with the back corner and under the table a janitor did come in, but she only dust mopped the place (no water, no cleansing spray). My daughter also cried her first 2 nights there, she went to the front desk (nurse station as it was called) crying wanting someone to talk to. They spoke to her for a moment then allowed her to just stand there, almost like she wasn't even there. My daughter went back to her room crying, they come check on the kids every 15 minutes, my daughter crying in her room was ignored. She says they did a whole 3 rounds before she was able to stop crying and the nurse/tech acted as if they didn't even notice, that is around 45 minutes of my daughter crying being ignored! The staff were also very argumentative with patients. for example a staff named Laura (Ms.L) was arguing with a girl due to her being rude and having a bad attitude, that night got so out of hand that a girl had a panic attack also leading others to get into out of hand arguments, 3 girls were sedated that night and the girl it all started with was moved to the flex unit (when being sedated you are given a shot in the arm or butt) it would apparently make the patient high and they would be asleep in the next 20 minutes or so, my daughter also says that they seemed to be really thirsty before falling asleep. My daughter also has G.l. issues and has to take medication pretty much as soon as she wakes up or she will be very nauseous and sometimes will throw up, it took till the day before she left for them to get her medication in order (she was there for 6 days when my husband and I were told 72 hours with the option to sign her out, they lied) There were also these group "therapy" things where kids had to read along papers with the techs and times having to answer questions, my daughter told me one of the options for coping mechanisms was protected sex!? This was very shocking due to some of the kids being there as s/a victims who recommends that with as young as 11 year olds in the unit. There was also this very sweet autistic girl who was so very mistreated. They would allow her to go a whole week without showering. She was also promised on a Tuesday she would be leaving the next day, she didn't. She was told on Wednesday "tomorrow" then Thursday "tomorrow". she left early that Friday. That Thursday she began to get very frustrated and started walking around yelling "I wanna go home" and was hitting walls, instead of attempting to calm her down they let it carry on, when it got to a point they sedated her in front of everyone. The social worker for my daughter and her friend had never even spoken to them, she told me she had spoken to my daughter but when I asked my daughter she said that she never did get to talk to her... they were both assigned a new case worker. My daughter came home with a fever of 102.5. I took her to urgent care and she tested positive for the flu. Dr. Malone told my daughter she wasn't sick and did nothing for her. The staff knew a child had the flu and didn't quarantine the poor child to prevent others from getting sick too, and considering the nature of this place I highly doubt they took proper care of her. My daughter says the 2 very nice techs Ruth and Mama Sha as she was called were very kind and helpful to the kids, the rest were very rude and argumentative. My daughter’s clothes were also stolen the day of her discharge. She didn't get her piercings back but did get her necklaces back. I believe that they gave the necklace's back because they were fake, but her piercings were not. This place needs to be investigated and shutdown immediately.
TRAUMATIZING to patient and family!!! My daughter was on the adolescent unit for 6 days. She came home with so much more trauma and anxiety than before. She and all the patients there were treated like less than human.… It was so dirty! All of her socks were COVERED in dust and dirt and her clothes smelled terrible. She asked for her bathroom to be cleaned as there were feces on the toilet seat from a previous patient. No one would clean it. She had to ask for a wet wipe to clean it herself. Fights would break out and the staff would be very slow to respond. A girl was raped by another girl! She said the treatment of the autistic children was one of the worst things she witnessed. She said the almost all the staff were mean and cold and that only one staff member in her 6 days there acted as if she cared. She was promised one on one counseling which she never received. She was so cold all the time. They were only given 1 thin blanket. She wore 2-3 layers of clothing the whole time and came back with a cough. She is pale and looks sick. She has slept in my bed every night since she has been home. I was given no information when she was admitted and had to beg for every bit of communication I received. Each time I would call to check on my daughter they would give very vague generic answers mostly about policy. The kids are only allowed to call out once a day for about 15 minutes. Every day I would hear the horrors of what my daughter was witnessing. She was terrified for her safety every moment. She was involuntarily committed for her depression. I begged for her not to be sent there because I ale knew this was not the environment she needed to be in. I had no idea how incredibly horrifying it was! Do not send anyone you care for and love here. The torment it put our family through will take years to heal from.
