DASSA Outpatient Services Alcohol and Drug Services
Five strands of care appear for the Mount Gambier clinic: medication assisted treatment for opioid dependence, assessment and referral, outreach, withdrawal management and outpatient counselling. All of it is non-residential, so appointments happen at the Wehl Street North site or out in the surrounding towns.
Withdrawal management is among the services, though the clinic does not state the setting in which it happens, so ask about that at intake. Which medications the opioid treatment programme uses, which substances the counselling team works with and which therapy models it draws on are not set out, and group work, family support and aftercare are not listed for this clinic.

DASSA Outpatient Services Reviews
Public reviews of the Mount Gambier DASSA clinic are limited from around the web, which is common for government outpatient clinics that sit inside a wider statewide service. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for this site, and anyone who has attended on Wehl Street North can share their experience.
First-hand accounts are especially useful here because the clinic covers a wide stretch of country towns. A note on how long an assessment took, how the opioid treatment programme was managed day to day, or how outreach worked from Naracoorte or Penola would tell you or someone you care about far more than a star rating.
Having a 10yr old son cut his finger almost completely off and damage the tendon on another and all being over 2hrs away from the hospital, I was somewhat concerned as a parent. And all this over a long weekend. Upon… arrival at the hospital we were welcomed and from the initial filling out of forms all the way through to the nurses, docs and ortho surgeons and anaesthetists we were treated with sincerity, were spoken to with respect and clarity and it made us feel like we were in safe hands. Their approach with their information spoken towards my son and myself was very well explained at an appropriate level and in a lay understanding for my son. This was reassuring for him especially given his finger was hanging off a few hrs before. Notable mention to Dr Jeremy in ortho for his sterling approach and his personal reassurance towards myself as a father. Taking the time to personally ring me and explain it all after surgery was complete. The hospital staff all rose above and beyond to meeting the challenge of a father’s concern for his son. But we went in calm, with reasonable expectations and fully aware that there could have been others in greater need than us. My thanks and gratitude towards the staff throughout this eventful time will not be forgotten.
Total crap. Judge people
Having my baby there was the worst experience of my life. Without going into details, one of the things was that they left a pad in for five days, and it was rotting! I only realized it when it started coming out on its… own, thank goodness. It was a traumatic birth with lasting consequences for me and my baby.
Everyone from the surgical staff through to the tea lady, were all amazing during my recent surgery and stay at the Mount Gambier hospital. Staff were all caring, professional and understanding, and I even enjoyed the… food.
(1st time going to the hospital) If you dieing dont even bother going to this place y'all have to wait 20 hours to even go in even with noone else waiting just to get an xray and see why my stomach feels like I was… getting stabbed while I can only stay hunched over to help it not hurt so much then get told to come back tomorrow so the next day while I was still in pain and got nothing to help me out... (2nd time going to the hospital) well if 20 hours of ya life was long try nearly a day and a half to go more in depth to see what the problem was well it was a bug and aslo makes my muscles tight and feels like I was getting stabbed just to get told that I need a Pacific doctor to come in for it so I had to wait even longer with no help then he got there and found it all out just to tell me come back with in 2 days for the prescription drugs to get to the hospital also again with no help for the pain I have asked and asked nothing at all. (3rd time going to the hospital) waited the 2 days for the prescription to come in they where supposed to call me that it was in I waited nearly all day to 5pm the i had to go in and waited 9 hours waiting for the most simplest thing 1 peace of paper for a prescription... Dont even bother going in i even talked to a guy with his finger cut off and he was waiting 7 hours for them to do something.
Will never attend this hospital again for any health services. Nurses were brilliant. Drs leave alot to be desired sending people home without asking if they have help at home etc. Orthopaedic doctor was condescending… and has no empathy nor bedside manner very rude and will not return for follow ups.
Big thanks go to Dr Bek in ED for her treatment and gentle attitude when I RIPPED my left leg open. With patience and confidence you laboriously worked to stitch back my leg with somewhere between 17-25 stitches! As… feed back, I drove back to Adelaide stopping 5 times to raise and rest my leg. It is mending well thank you babe! Mount Gambier - you are lucky to have Dr Bek on your staff and living in the area! Thank you! 10/10 😳😒☺️🥰😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👚🧑⚕️
Emergency room wait time 4 or 5 hours
Excellent care at Mount Gambier Hospital. We had to bring our daughter in with a suspected broken foot and were very impressed with the experience. The staff were friendly, caring, and reassuring, and we were seen very… quickly. The X-ray was done promptly and the whole process was efficient and well organised. It made a stressful situation much easier, and we’re very grateful for the kindness and professionalism shown by everyone involved.
The most uncaring hospital iv ever been to....my last incident was the most unpleasant situation I'd been in with the staff treating me like a dog and less than human.....2 nurses in particular should be sacked… immediately for the disgusting way i was spoken to and treated....I was respectful at all times but they weren't... I actually can't believe that they treated me so poorly.....I have cancer and a few other medical problems but they told me to go home , even though I told them I was feeling worse and was now very nauseous....so they kicked me out and made me drive home to sit here on my own, im not sure where I can go to get the medical help I need as im getting much worse and will be incapable of diving soon....sitting here feeling very scared....
My elderly mother with Parkinson's was admitted to the medical ward on Monday night after 5 hours in ED. I arrived Tuesday to find her confined to her bed with the lights turned down low: rails on bed raised, bed flat,… Mum lying in her back with no way to sit up, and water completely out of reach in other side of the room. Supposedly restraint isn't meant to be used anymore but a nurse did say it was to prevent her getting out of bed, this despite signs in the Ward indicating how important it is for patients over 80 to get up and out of bed. She was seen by a physio that morning but by that afternoon she was unable to get out of a wheelchair. After 2.5 days she was transported back to the Nursing Home having lost the ability to stand independently, get out of bed independently or walk independently.
Waste of time go to a different hospital
Crazy waiting
Whilst the upgrades are looking great and the hospital is getting better as time goes on but one thing that isn't is the mental health care you get at this place.i was in the middle of a ptsd crisis and they sat me in… the waiting room for 7 hours then decided it was time to give me something and sent me home no calls to mental health nothing no help at all. Are they seriously just trying to mask the problem with-in a training hospital when we should be getting more from our health system
Dad had a stroke over 3 months ago. One call from Theresa who was lovely. Called 7 times today. 4 voice messages and 3 calls not answered. Pathetic
Extremely rude receptionist, well over 2 hours wait. Could go on but this hospital urgently needs a lot of funding! Staff training is one of the many- terrible, avoid at all cost, drive to a different city if you can.
10 years ago, injured myself something shocking. Was told to just take Panadol and ibuprofen for pain. Woke up in agonising pain and sweats . Went to doctors clinic the next day, was told I should’ve been discharged… with something stronger.
My son had an infection that was drained and treated and included an overnight stay. All the staff were fantastic and the triage doctor and nurse were so good with my son, keeping him calm and explaining everything and… getting his consent before each step. It's never a nice experience for a kid but the staff were great at helping him through the process. The nurse on the ward even had the thought to arrange his procedure in another room so he didn't have to sleep in the same bed (he was very anxious about the draining) Very thoughtful!! Thanks for looking after us!!
Our healthcare system is biased towards some people and do not provide adequate care. I had a broken hand and was sent away and had to have er management step in to get an x-ray done and pain relief as the nurses and… doctors assume everyone is on drugs or trying to get drugs. My hand looked like I was wearing a boxing glove it was that swollen and they simply did not care. They set my anxiety off and then get nasty when I get agitated it's really awful there and if there were any other hospitals here we'd all surely go elsewhere
The emergency department were very friendly and helpful when i attended with a fractured elbow. Transferred to surgical ward where the nurses were friendly and very helpful. The hospital should be allocated more funding… to enable orthopaedic surgery on joints. Would likely be cheaper than transferring cases to adelaide
