O Lugar da Manhã – Centro do Vale da Rasca provides residential therapeutic community treatment for drug, alcohol and opioid dependence, with dedicated programmes for dual diagnosis, alcohol dependence, young users and minors, and a methadone and buprenorphine reduction programme. Sintonic Therapy underpins the work, delivered through encounter groups, small groups, family and couples therapy, seminars and relaxation.

The model seeks internal change through better communication between conscious and unconscious mind, symbolic thinking and emotional reorganisation, within a biopsychosocial frame and a daily plan of hygiene, meals, sport, psychotherapy and household tasks. Special groups and sexuality groups, psychoanalytic group psychodrama and therapists trained in PBSP and EMDR widen the range, and the team includes psychologists, a psychiatrist and family therapists. In the dual-diagnosis programme psychiatric assessment and medication are provided, with consultations up to weekly. The entry house and the exit house sit either side of the community stay, and the exit house carries the reintegration work with vocational training and labour-market partners.
