New Horizon Counseling Center – Copiague Reviews and Ratings
Patient reviews of New Horizon Counseling Center cover ground that official records leave out, from the admissions call to aftercare planning. Read them in this section alongside reviews gathered from around the web.
I’ve been going to New Horizon Counseling Center for several years, and my experience has been very different from some of the reviews I’ve seen online. The front desk staff has always been extremely kind and helpful to… me. My therapist, Janine, is incredible. She is supportive, compassionate, and has truly gone above and beyond for me. During a very difficult situation involving a family member, she helped me tremendously, and I will always be grateful for the support she gave me during that time. I’ve also had a very positive experience with psychiatry and have always felt that my concerns were listened to and taken seriously. Have I had therapists there over the years whose style just wasn’t for me? Absolutely, and I think that is completely normal. Therapy is not one size fits all. You are not going to click with every therapist, and sometimes someone’s personality or approach just isn’t the right fit for you. That doesn’t automatically mean they are a bad therapist or that the entire practice is bad. I can only speak from my own experience, but I continue to be treated with kindness and respect, and I’m very grateful for the care and support I receive at New Horizon Counseling Center.
New Horizons 🕊️🌈 Embrace your journey to The Branches collaborating with food for the needy. Speaks highly of 4 caseworkers. In need of caseworkers. Hence hiring. 💯Ms. J runs a chief orderly system Spoken of highly T/o… , W.comp complete package. Ms. KG goes out of her way to make life’’s challenging much better for others. On point. On guard. Informative. Skillful Case coordinator went out of here way to better serve. Communications top priority. Kindness & safety first. Cared to make sure I was doing well in rehabilitation treatment. Set for SCAT Bus application. Personally brought to Hauppauge Offices #1 Patient/Client engagement. Highly recommended to be on her team.
Worst place I've ever received services at. The psychiatrist is extremely rude and not understanding and always wants to rush you. They think that medication is the only thing you need to feel better. I would never… recommend this place to anyone else. 0 stars
this place is a mess. i had a therapist that worked for me and they randomly switched me to someone else with no say in it. the psychiatrist darlene is extremely rude and unprofessional and does not prescribe medication… that patients need because she cant handle being incorrect about a prescription she gives you. the front desk was even rude to me when i requested a new psychiatrist because darlene TOLD me to. this place does not care about helping you. however both therapists i had there were extremely nice and good at their jobs. security is nice too. everyone else is terrible though
Tried this place twice. Only about the money. Wants to put me in a program I dont need. Doesn't care about mental health distress
This place is truly the best! My therapist Janine is amazing and listens to all my needs! The doctor also works alongside my therapist and it’s such a blessing! I was a mess before I attended new horizons in copaigue… and they saved my life and helped me become the amazing person I am today! I am forever grateful to new horizons copaigue!
It's where they leave people better than what they found them.❤️❤️❤️❤️
I like going there
I received therapy from a therapist named Danielle with Curly blonde hair when I did therapy here a couple years ago. I recommend her to anyone who is looking for therapy, she is one of the most supportive and helpful… people I have met. She gives really good advice and cares about her clients. If you are starting treatment I would ask for her. She is great. And a wonderful person, she has given me amazing advice and support whenever I needed it.
Years ago, I received counseling and psychiatry here, and my experience left much to be desired. The sessions are extremely short, and the therapist I had kept stopping me and fixed each session to just one topic. I… would still be talking and finishing even as she walked me back to the front. I felt extremely stuck and was unable to connect with my therapist at all due to the short times and the structure of her sessions. My psychiatrist was changed extremely often, three times. The first one was a sweet lady, but the second one was a man who was just incredibly weird. He asked and continued to probe about my age (I look younger than I am, but he just wouldn't stop bringing it up after clarification) and my traumatic experiences. I genuinely did not want to see this man in-person anymore, and tried to make my phone sessions as short as possible. He would eventually apologize for them, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. However, the worst part about it was when I decided to withdraw from all services about a year later. After contacting the supervisor to discontinue therapy and psychiatry, I got a call back from my now-former counselor. She was incredibly upset about my decision, almost to the point she was passive-aggressive. Even with other therapists I've spoken with about switching, all have been understanding and one even assisted with helping me search for other places to go. It was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional to be spoken to like that when I found out the structure (not just for this particular therapist, but I think the whole clinic) just wouldn't work for me. Overall, the structure of my therapeutic sessions were far too rigid for me, and the therapist was inflexible and acted strange when I discharged myself. The male psychiatrist I had made me extremely uncomfortable with the questions and statements he had, and I genuinely just opted to not see him in-person anymore. My experience was fine overall, but for my needs, I won't be going back or reconsidering them.
They very good clean place art therphy is great I Been with them for a long time
The reception staff are not friendly, but I have to give 3 stars because my stepdaughter had a good therapist, Elizabet Coronel, excellent, very good, attentive and always answered my messages.
It was unfortunate for me to say goodbye to the best therapist I had for the past four years Amanda Kettle, and my doctor, Dr. Bor Chuong. Both worked hand-in-hand to provide me with my psychiatric concerns and my… medical needs. I am very thankful to them that I am now stable and can continue my care Independently upon graduation. The amount of trust I have with Amanda how much I’ve come to respect her over the years is without a doubt unlike any other therapist (and I’ve had several over the course of 12 years). To continue with this review. Dr Chuong provided a level of care that no other doctor had been able to me provide in the past, knowing multiple psychiatric disorders that I have and how to treat them efficiently and relentlessly. Him and Amanda both were extremely patient with me and my schedule and made sure I was stable during my course at New Horizons Counseling Center. Because of them I didn’t relapse over the course of 4 years, and hopefully it stays that way. Considering I have these preexisting conditions it should duly be noted that Dr. Chuong and Amanda should not be providing just patient care but instead be training and be in charge of the practitioners there. This is something that isn’t coming from a parent but a client who has worked as regional manager positions for Fortune 50 Companies. I am well aware of the client side of things wanted to leave this as a final note and goodbye for upper management to reward their best employees. Brianna who was my care coordinator was the the only one at New Horizons that actually always followed up and made sure my needs were being met. Over the years I’d seen several come and go but in her case she truly showed her compassion and dedication to her job. Also, I’d like to note and thank my former Primary Care Physician, Dr. Kristen Mailand from their East Setauket Stonybrook Family Medicine Office who had me referred to New Horizons Counseling Center to begin with. Thank you all once again, sending much love from Texas!
absolutely garbage. if you are looking to get any help, listen to the bad reviews and don’t come here. i had hope and i regret it. neighborhood is also bad.
This place is a total joke!! DO NOT go here. If you’re looking for any kind of mental health help or wellbeing, they will do the exact opposite. If I could give negative 20 star rating I would. STAY AWAY!!
This facility discriminates, picks and chooses who they are willing to help. They will ask you for medical documents and promise you help only to turn around and tell you they never could have helped you to begin with… and they are unsure how you made it that far into the process. No one seems to know what is going on there or how decisions are made. When you ask why they cannot help you, you will not get a straight answer. They will not even give you names of alternative programs to seek help through. They seem to be more about politics and milking insurance than they are about actually helping the populations they claim to provide services for.
The best staff ever they are 100%. Dr. Chuang and Oz make a great team! 😀And I like my thyripst Debra she is a big help😀
I have been a patient of New Horizon since 2018 and every time I work with the nurse Oz not only does he help me with my medication but I he also teaches me how to move up in society.
Even 1 star is too much for this place. Coming from someone who truly wanted help, I was vulnerable and they broke my trust. They treated me without kindness or care. The clinical director is a cold heartless woman. If… you can get in anywhere else you definitely should. The stress from dealing with this place made my anxiety worse. If there was someone higher up to report them to I would.
If I could give zero stars I would. They would not take me on as a mental health patient because I got pain meds for a kidney stone 4 months ago. Ridiculous!
Loved this place. Denise was helping with me everything. She’s such a sweetheart. Made everything easy and understandable. I recommend anyone that comes here to ask for Denise i promise you’ll be in the best hands!!… Personally she was my fav staff member
I really enjoy my therapist and feel listened to. I've been to a few places but this one seems to actually care. A few times that I have to call the office can be a bit difficult w my anxiety but it's always a delight… to hear Jane from the front reception answer the call almost everytime. Sweet, caring ppl work here or at least the onesi have interacted w.
I was taking therapy here for a couple months. I really liked my therapist but I had to move away. Luckily, now i’m moving back to the area and will love to get the same therapist! I don’t know why there are so many… negative reviews. This place deserves 5 stars!
I just starting going to this place, the intake was quick, my therapist is awesome and so is my prescriber. The front staff have always been pleasant and even know my name! I don't feel like just another number but an… actual person. I don't get all the bad reviews !
Wish I could leave zero stars. God awful facility. No wonder why everyone keeps quitting / they can’t do any simple tasks correctly. They also lie to their Patients to milk them out of insurance money. Scummy… organization.
Zero stars to negative five if I could. Namely, CATHERINE KREMM, should be avoided at all costs, and that’s to say the very least. The ratio of one star to five star reviews is very telling of this poor establishment.… In my time at new horizons’ Copiague location (2017-2021) I’ve been met with absolutely zero professionalism or hospitality among the staff, any doctors, or any of the therapists who’ve quite laughably claimed themselves to actually be qualified in this field, including those I once preferred and respected. If you seek progress of any quality or quantity, or simply a person to talk to for 40 minutes every two weeks, for your own sake, I suggest keep looking, don’t settle. Contrary to what any current employed staff member will tell you, your well being and mental state are way too important to just settle on any old less than good counseling center. If you intend on your therapists and doctors missing appointments, doing the absolute bare minimum, leaving you hanging, blatantly prioritizing clients while ignoring others, not refilling your prescription, dropping you from the caseload with no reason or explanation or even contacting you whatsoever every other month and then having to redo any small bit of progress you’ve made with a new therapist, not even telling you you’ve been dropped from the caseload, etc. then this might just be the run down jungle gym you’ve been looking for. In my experience, the exponentially increasing level of incompetence each staff member shares is immeasurable and I’ve seen more professionalism, determination, sincerity and compassion in high school students and I’d be genuinely surprised if this place is even still standing for much longer. To anyone trying hard to better themselves and reach out in search of mental help, I wish you endless luck.
I'm very impressed by the professional and friendly staff all around. Stacy, Roseanne, Rose, Captain, and the whole crew at reception are just fantastic.
These people have been giving my daughter medication that is making her hallucinate. These people should be shut down immediately they are prescribing drugs that only a Dr. can
