I had a very good experience with First Step Counseling. I learned a lot of valuable information and tools to use moving forward. Patti is a wonderful counselor.

absolute garbage, work hours are only in the early morning until 8, horrible customer service, and only takes cash for some weird reason

If you enjoy constantly moving goalposts and zero consistency, this is the place for you. Communication is vague, contradictory, and leaves you wondering whether it’s poor explanation or a complete lack of… understanding. The absence of posted hours isn’t surprising—apparently, availability exists only for a brief window after you call, regardless of when you try. Planning anything around that is nearly impossible. Even more questionable is the payment setup: cash or cash-style payments only (like Venmo to a personal account). Draw your own conclusions about the level of professionalism and transparency there. I’ve already raised these concerns with the DA and the Diversion Counselor. A “business” operating like this shouldn’t be affiliated with Douglas County or receiving referrals.

I highly recommend First Step Counseling! The process is smooth, and the classes are very informative and helpful! Nikki and Pati are very nice and easy to work with!

Horrible! Pati the counselor was amazing but the owner who Dealt with legal and finances was absolutely the worst! Never recommend I'd never go back. I'll spend extra anywhere else sorry Patti you're great but Nikki… you're horrible

First Step is amazing! I had a great experience in the classes and felt supported the entire way through.

I am truly grateful for First Step Counseling and Nikki Winter and my therapist Patty. No one wants to find themselves in these classes initially but I can’t tell you how many friends and like-minded people I met that… changed my way of thinking, improved my mental health and overall helped me take some accountability for things. What a lovely program to be part of and I was proud to graduate from it.

I was very pleased about how easy the process was to get into the classes. It was all over zoom making it very convenient and capable with my day to day. To top it off, the staff was so great to work with there was a… level of Comfort and welcoming that I was pleasantly surprised to find when I didn’t want to be there. And by the end, I was actually a little sad to go.

I can't begin to speak highly enough of First Step Counseling. The entire process can seem very overwhelming at first, but if you just do the work and show up weekly, the classes are over before you know it. Nikki is… excellent at handling the business end of things (court paperwork, UA's, etc..) and Patti is an incredible therapist. She makes the classes not only imfortive, but fun. I actually looked forward to the weekly class and being able to speak openly in a judgement free zone. I am very grateful for the time I spent with Patti and my classmates. I look forward to a very bright future with my new insight on not only the law, but also myself.

First Step along with Nikki and Patti are top notch. You will end your journey with them with a new prespective and outlook on life and what you can accomplish.
