Acadiana Treatment Center – Sunset Reviews and Ratings
Families searching for treatment in Sunset often start with reviews. If you were a patient at Acadiana Treatment Center, or supported one, sharing how it went gives them something real to go on.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY CHILD HERE!!! I left this place june 6 2024 and looking at the reviews it’s still the same. I went here for help with addiction but no surprise they have no resources for addiction help. My hand… was broke and it took three days before i was taking to a hospital, they didn’t even call my mom to tell her. my tooth was also chipped and no surprise no contact to any guardian. They have a thing called room restrictions and it’s where you’re stuck in your room for 72 hours, for no reason. They told me that i was “having sexual intercourse” with people and sneaking into peoples rooms but when i asked to show me proof of me doing this they couldn’t. Because it never happened. I don’t think i could even count on my fingers how many times i was locked in the white room for days on end. My father passed away while i was in the facility, but I wasn’t allowed to his funeral and see him for one last time because I was “untrustworthy”. Then after that being doped up on shots and locked in white rooms because i was emotional. other patients sa me multiple times and i would beg to switch units because i didn’t wanna be around that but because of how much it occurred they told me to my face i was lying even after showing proof. soon my mom had to check me out the facility because of how bad it was effecting me and that same day i was still on room restriction for something i never did my therapist came to me and told me my mother wasn’t gonna get me and she wasn’t coming for me etc. I could go on and on about the trauma i have now from being there this ain’t even close to half of the things we had to endure i still know people from there who sadly are more unstable because of what we had to endured. This place wasn’t treatment it’s trauma.
When I tell you the most Horrible place you can visit Trace Swartzfager is the ceo of this company and the staff is very unprofessional. I hope we can find a way to closed this place. I have notify the state in everyway.
just wanna say, do NOT send your kids here. i'm not even gonna speak on half of the things i've seen in here, but there's so much behind closed doors that go on (smothering people in their sleep, trying to stab people… with color pencils and markers, snorting pills, sneaking vapes, etc.) every time i hear a loud noise, it reminds me of the seclusion door being banged on. i ignore it because my brain has just gotten used to the sound of yelling, screaming, fighting, etc. your child WILL end up more damaged when they leave than when they came in. but anyways shout out to Nurse Ryan and Ms. Fefe, everyone else either kinda sucks or really sucks.
hated being in here, added more trauma onto me
this place was horrible my therapist was the only person that cared .The staff are rlly messy with the kids and add fuel to the fire and add to the drama . I got snuck my first week there and my shoulder popped out of… place I was hurt my whole stay there I do not recommend going there .
I am a patient in ATC, I am a teenager and i want to say that this place is the worst. They have lost multiple belongings of mine, the stagf are MESSY (slang) and there are bugs in the unit 1 shower. Nothing is done… about the bullying that goes on in the units. anyways shout out to Ms L'tonya, Mrs Jenna mrs taylor, and mrs tierra, and Mrs Cassidy!!
Horrible
As a patient I witnessed some girls get THEIR FINGER BROKEN, SUFFOCATED WITH A PILLOW, ARM POPPED OUTTA PLACE, AND MANY CONCUSSIONS, AND A LADY GOT HER WIG SNATCHED, AND THEY BE ARGUING WITH THE KIDS AND TALKIN THEY… MOMMAS. NOT SAFE
I went here in 2018 I think as an adult it was great very good and beautiful I wish I could go back but I think it's just for kids now but very great
I've been here I got released about 5 days and I'm just gonna say DO NOT send your children here. They treat you like animals for no reason. They think that you lie about how you feel.
I was there when I was 15 and it was a horrible place to be I am transgender and I go by he him pronouns and I go by the name Ace and they refused to Valk me by what I preferred they would say that it was against hippa… laws even though I knew that was a lie because I was in dcfs and my own judge called me by these things. While I was there I felt very uncomfortable by certain things, like when I would self harm or even had thoughts about it they would put me in see through scrubs and I was not allowed to shower or use the bathroom in private, there was always a staff in the room. When I was there I got sick and they said that they would be surprised if it was covid which it was and they didn't test me for a week. They would completely disregard what we where going through and wouldn't even let us talk most of the time we had about 2 or 3 hours of the day to talk. I am now 18 and am still suffering from what happened there. On my 16 birthday we had a talent show and my therapist told me that I shouldn't have won because of the song I sang. But in reality I won it far and square. Please do not send your kids there.
Here are many of the terrible experiences I had here: 1. They lied on every single thing that is on the website 2. The facility always smelled like weed and/or cigarettes and when the patients would complain that it was… a trigger than they would get yelled at for disrespecting an adult 3. The therapists, nurses, and techs would CONSTANTLY violate our HIPPA laws and talk about our personal issues and I’v first handily been in the room while they’ve done this 4. If you got hungry past dinner time (which was at 5) u got a snack at 630 and were denied anything else 5. If ur parent did not answer ur call the first time you did not get to call again. Even if the parent called back, you couldn’t answer 6. I saw multiple children get injured here because they belonged in a detention home. 7. They have this thing called “pause” where it’s 48 hrs of seclusion where even if they find out u didn’t do anything, you couldn’t be taken off 8. Children would lie on other children CONSTANTLY and didn’t get in trouble for it and they would NEVER listen to the victims events of what happened. 9. We were treated like animals and if u were caught hurting yourself or even had thoughts they would make u wear see through clothes for 3 days or until they determined u could get ur stuff back not only that but you were also put on “pause” FOR HURTING YOURSELF U GET PUT IN SECLUSION??? I went here in 2022, as I see it by the most recent reviews, nothing has changed. I’m going to college in the fall and have recovered mentally. Please do not send your child here. It’s not worth it. Get them help somewheres else because I wouldn’t wish my experience here on anyone. P.S. on my birthday they promised me cupcakes and a call to my mother that they never gave me. Got my hopes up and then turned their back and changed their mind the day before. And when I cried they made me bring my stuff in the hallway for “pause”
This place literally sucks, fights almost everyday, dirty rooms, bug infestation, a nurse lying about everyone having lice, and so much more. A wonderful tech was fired for comforting a child. if you self harm, or… threaten to self harm, everything in taken away from you, your clothes, etc.
Nah bro this place lowkey kinda sucks 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😱😱😱😱😱😰😰😰😰😰🤡🤡🤡🤡💀💀💀
My mentally disabled minor daughter was seriously injured under their "care", eloped, was able to self harm and her basic hygiene needs were neglected. Do not send your kids here.
Beautiful campus and caring staff!
This was the first rehab I had ever went to. This was in 2015 or 16 well they were located I think in Lafayette and when I got signed in to stay they were moving like the 3rd day that I was there to sunset location . It… was cool to see . The old one looked like a house it was cool . I had came in and almost passed out and the nurses and staff made sure I was ok and saw a doctor and that mentally I was okay . I may not have been at my best but the staff and everyone here was so beyond kind and cared about everyone's sobriety and it was individualized and personal . It was pricey back then I'm not sure about now . I had ended leaving but I never forgot and alot of people will say it's about how people treat you that people remember. It helped me in the sobriety process . They were still kind and wanted me to stay so much but I needed something else . Well because I had went for the time length I stayed I got an AA book and I kept it all these years and today it still helps and has helped heal me. If it wasn't for that place I wouldn't know the AA way.
I mean im not sure what to say. In some ways it helped i just think some staff should handle some situations better considering weve been through alot. I dont like how u had to wait 3 days till u can call or go outside.… I also dont like how they take our clothes and belongings for having thoughts we cant control sounds more like a punishment than safety precaution. It helped tho!
It helped sure, but when I say I went in with less trauma than I came in I think that’s an issue.
Horrible communication deficit between PRTF and family, after the check in there's not even one person to get in touch with you, my son is not allowed to communicate with his family, he's been there 2 weeks today and… therevis no education at all included in this program like the advertised in the website describe, my son needs a little extra support to follow through new rules and reminders all I ask last week was to provide a little note as a visual reminder to put his name in the list to call his family, instead the program director tried so hard with 2 other staff members to make me believe that my son did not want to call and they can't force him? So they are not setting up family face time every Thursday afternoon like director said, the nurse is not doing their job in asking everyone in the morning if they want to use the phone instead they delegate this responsability to another patient and there's no communication with our son unless I ask and ask more like begging ugh, coordination is horrible, nobody call back and provide answers and they can careless to provide the care each person needs in there I'm still waiting for a phone call from the charge nurse last Thursday Sept 24 who said will set up physical therapy that my son needs this PRTF people are not humans Not everyone in there is not sensitive or sensible but I left several voicemails and 😮 not one person called back yet. Make me think that they can careless about our children because not providing education and other medical needs is neglect, not talking about that they don't respect client patient rights, by depriving my son from his own clothes as a punishment for his mental health behavior problems, it's like stepping on him as a human being, they are not respecting louisiana mental health law Do not send your children here because it's a horrible facility with 0 communication skills, no education for patients, no respect for our children and parents
We were seeking professional help for my adolescent daughter who suffers from depression, anxiety, and ODD. Acadiana Treatment Center was a complete and utter waste of everyone's time. From being admitted to having to… voluntarily withdrawal. It seemed as though they were more concerned with having bodies fill beds so they could collect revenue, than helping those they kept behind the walls of the facility. The lady who did our initial admission over the phone sounded as though she was selling a timeshare or vacation than trying to admit a child into a treatment center. While my daughter was there (6 weeks) they increased her dosage of antidepressants then 4 days later a nurse named Brittany called to inform me that they were going to change what she was on to another antidepressant, and when I protested (only 4 days after they thought they needed to increase the medication she was already on) I was advised that insurance may not pay (a prime example of caring more about the money than the patient) if we didn't comply with Dr's orders. I informed them that my child was not a guinea pig, and what she was previously on was working fine and not to change it. They completely took her off of the antidepressants and then told me I told them to, when I did NOT. (a complete lack of professional communication). While as a patient my daughter told me that she was singled out by a nurse named Ms. Kate for no apparent reason and was badgered that her attitude was negative and that she would inform her counselor of it, when my child was doing nothing. Upon withdrawal, several of my daughter's personal belongings were overlooked and we didn't realize they were missing until miles down the road. I called the treatment center and spoke to the Director of Nursing, Jennifer who gave me the option of having those belongings mailed to us, as of the date of this review and multiple calls to inquire about them, I've yet to receive them. The last call I made apparently the "Supervisor" I spoke to thought whatever I was saying and whatever activities in the background were quite humorous and laughed about it. We've been trying for days before she was withdrawn to get her Dr. excuse for enrollment purposes. After MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO SPEAK WITH the Teacher on Duty there, Dory, I was assured that she was going to type it up and have the Dr. sign it and get it in the mail to me. That was on a Tuesday, today is the following Monday.... Still, no sign of it. Voicemail boxes, and excuses is all I get when trying to contact these people. Excuses and imaginary scenarios were all I got while my daughter was there. If you have any OTHER place that you or someone you know in need can seek and get help from, please do yourself a HUGE favor and seek it elsewhere. ***3 weeks later, still haven't received my daughter's belongings. WHAT A COMPLETE JOKE.
Hard working,loving ,caring dedicated staff
Thank you for showing me how to live my life again and live it sober. This place gave me closure that I thought I would never have. Today I have been clean 1 year, 1 month and 1 day...thank you everyone from AAC!!!
