Nova Counseling Services Inc – Oshkosh

I am reposting my review as it was taken down. I Attended Nova in 2024 at one of the lowest points if my life. I would describe the Nova treatment protocol to be a shame based treatment. What I mean by this is the… counselors constantly berated me and encouraged the clients to participate in which many gleefully participated in. It was explained to me that because I use drugs, I do not know how to feel so they need to make me "feel." I argued that I know how to feel, but I do not know how to cope. I was told thats your addict talking and I will never be sober. Today I am sober in spite of Nova although I now see a therapist to deal with the trauma inflicted on me by the Nova staff. I will say the support staff was kind and helpful but the counselors were quite frankly deplorable. This review is helping me to heal from my trauma and hopefully I can help prevent someone else from going through what I went through. Also many of the other reviews here were solicited by Nova so consider the source. I realize many will think I am just a disgruntled person which I cannot control but I do wish you all well.

Was my first step to re-building my life and getting serious about my recovery. Your days are packed full of sessions and activities that all center around recovery and learning about the science of addiction. I never… felt like I was left alone with my thoughts or bored (which could be deadly to me in the past.) The counseling staff was top-notch and offered extensive knowledge on addiction and its various impacts on life, along with incredible insight on how to begin convalescing from those impacts. The groups were always very professionally run in order to best tackle some of the deepest troubles people were facing, and everyone was given the opportunity to share and help themselves by helping others. The counseling staff also did a great job in ensuring that I was set up for the next steps after leaving Nova, and was entering an appropriate level of care that they saw fit for where I was at in my journey. And the support staff was incredible. So personable and genuinely care about the clients. I always felt like I had support from them or an ear when I needed to talk about whatever. It’s treatment. It’s not a resort. But looking back almost a year and half after having gone through it, I can’t thank Nova enough for all the support, care, and direction they gave me when I was so broken and lost at the start of my recovery journey.

It was a great experience the counselors there are very helpful very kind and loving… was a great stepping stone to my recovery love going back there to meeting and helping others there that are struggling and give them… the message of hope….highly recommend if u r struggling with addiction or alcoholism 👍👍

I was patient there back in 2017 and 2019. 2019 I came in a broken shell of a man and they welcomed me with open arms. It was a humbling experience to say I needed help and couldn't figure this out on my own. I… surrendered my control and let the professionals guide me to better my quality of life. It wasn't easy at times and I fought the suggestions of the counselors but something unexplainable happened there and I began to experience some life changing moments. I wouldn't be where im at today without that place. Im truly grateful for all the people there just trying to help others with a new way of life!!

I wish we found this place sooner. The support provided to my sister was right what she needed and has helped her through her journey. Keep up the great work. If you or someone needs support in their sobriety journey,… look no further. Great people, great support.
