About QuIHN Brisbane – Bowen Hills
QuIHN Brisbane is the community alcohol and other drug service of the Queensland Injectors Health Network, based at Bowen Hills and open on weekdays into the evening. Free, confidential counselling is offered for substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns, and for family, friends and carers.
Group programmes run on site: MudMaps for anyone changing their use of opioids, amphetamines, alcohol or cannabis, the Wiser Minds emotional regulation group, the Nuts & Bolts relapse prevention and harm reduction group, and the eight-week MAISE mental health and substance education group. A bulk-billing general practice at the same address covers hepatitis C treatment and opioid substitution therapy. No referral is needed to make contact; call (07) 3620 8111 or the intake line on 1800 172 076. Entry to MAISE follows an assessment by a case manager, support worker or counsellor.

QuIHN Brisbane Counselling Services
Counselling is the core of QuIHN Brisbane: free, confidential individual sessions covering heroin, prescription opioids, methamphetamine, alcohol and cannabis, with co-occurring mental health concerns worked on at the same time. Family therapy, peer support and relapse prevention work are also listed at the Bowen Hills site.
Four group programmes run here: MudMaps, for anyone changing their use of opioids, amphetamines, alcohol or cannabis; Wiser Minds, which works on emotional regulation; Nuts & Bolts, built around relapse prevention and harm reduction; and MAISE, an eight-week mental health and substance education group entered after assessment. The co-located bulk-billing general practice handles hepatitis C treatment and opioid substitution therapy, so medical care sits next to the counselling rather than somewhere else.

Where Is QuIHN Brisbane?
QuIHN Brisbane is at 1 Hamilton Place, Bowen Hills, Queensland, postcode 4006, a standalone clinic in an urban setting rather than part of a hospital campus. The counselling service and the bulk-billing general practice share this address, so one trip can cover both.
Opening is Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 19:00, with the clinic closed on public holidays, and those evening hours make it workable around a job. No referral is needed to get in touch, though MAISE requires a prior assessment and its primary programme mainly takes referrals from within its Hospital and Health Service area. Ring (07) 3620 8111 or 1800 172 076 to check availability before travelling.

How Much Does Treatment at QuIHN Brisbane Cost?
Counselling at QuIHN Brisbane is free. There is no fee for individual sessions, for the MudMaps, Wiser Minds, Nuts & Bolts or MAISE groups, or for support given to family, friends and carers, because the service is government-funded rather than charged to the individuals who attend.
The general practice at the same address bulk-bills, so the medical side, including hepatitis C treatment and opioid substitution therapy, is covered through Medicare rather than out of pocket. No private rate, NDIS arrangement, WorkCover billing or private health insurance requirement is listed for the counselling service. The intake line can set out what applies to you before a first appointment.

QuIHN Brisbane Reviews
Public reviews of QuIHN Brisbane from around the web are limited, which is common for harm reduction services whose clients tend to guard their privacy. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for this service, and anyone who has attended the Bowen Hills site is welcome to share their experience.
Online comment usually concerns the Queensland Injectors Health Network as an organisation rather than the counselling and groups at Hamilton Place. The things a prospective client wants to know are whether the evening appointments really are easy to get, what the MudMaps room feels like to walk into, and how the general practice and the counselling team work together.
Amazing supporting workers I wouldn't be where I am today without the great support I'm given 40 yrs of using illegal substances to nothing now I'm feeling great but taking each day as it comes
If I could give lower stars I would! This place of business shows no regard to the number of adjoining unit blocks on its surroundings They attract the most unsightly characters that verbally abuse you when passing… them, even partaking in activities that they receive from their exchange program. Their clients come to our stairwells leaving their equipment for anyone to be subject to whilst verbally abusing those that ask them to leave out residence They have ignored all my emails regarding the above, and now for the past few weeks and who knows how long for, from 6am to 6pm we are all subjected to loud construction noise, disturbing the little peace we have here Not once has this organisation thought about the HUNDREDS of tenants they are disturbing daily, weekly, and monthly, we've not received any kind of communication advising of this disruption showing they have absolutely no regard for anyone in the community. They need to be shut down they're not helping anyone only condoning toxic behaviour
I’m taking off label Ozempic and needed syringes to administer the doses. The team sorted me a month supply of needles and swabs which would’ve cost about $40 at the chemist. Really Appreciate how easy they made it and… how friendly they were. I wasn’t sure if they only did the needle exchange for drug users but they were super cool about me using them for peptides. It’s A good thing that an organisation like this exists to offer judgement free health services to people in the community who may otherwise go without. They deserve more government funding!
Quihn’s service is outstanding. A great organisation for struggling members of the community
No judgement… Awesome the drug information and therapy, etc
My mental health therapist here changed my life, If i hadn't gone to a place like this I might have not had a life anymore.
Saved my life great staff here
OMG fix your Web site!!! Can't cancel out if the banner!!
Used to be a brilliant service but has lost its vibe. Nicky who run mudmaps is still there and is great. Counsellors some great, some not so. Doctors some great some not so. To corporate now.
Rethink your doctor ..hart.... prescribing multiple opiates to an addict who is now deseaced
Always help with affection
A fantastic service to the community! A needle exchange program! Counsellors are available for suffering addicts! Medical Drs & nurses are available by appointment! Hepatitis treatment is organized here! On Mondays,… Nicky runs the Mudmaps group from 10 am till 12.00! Wheelchair access is available A carpark is available for visitors!
I honestly find it hard to put into words just how fantastic QuIHN is. I always feel welcome and staff are incredibly kind, respectful and helpful. QuIHN offers a diverse range of services and groups for people who use… drugs including clothing rummages, barbeques and harm minimization groups. As a client I feel incredibly involved not only with QuIHN as a service provider but also with fellow service users which creates profound sense of community and connectedness. I always feel welcome and often stick around after visiting the NSP for a chat with whoever is working in admin at the time. I feel truly blessed to have access to such amazing services and equally amazing, affable and approachable staff.
Lovely Place
Their Needle & Syringes (NSPs) In Bowen Hills is excellent and help prevent diseases from spreading in the community. Staff were friendly, non judgmental and very helpful towards me. Very short wait for free Syringes… and even have other product's on offer for a small amount of coin (Tourniquets, ect). They have some cool Magazines, they also offer some Services to get help if needed for addition but are not preachy about it either. I will be back again. Thanks for making this world a more safer place for people who need the right product's. You guys are the best.
No stigma here - just a very informed, salt of the earth, harm reduction team who work tirelessly to create a community not just a NSP. Support groups (thats where I go) are for a broad range of people and issues. There… is also a genuine medical centre attached that is brilliantly non bias yet fully qualified to prescribe for other issues you may have..
Always very professional and helpful. I always come here for sexual health check ups.
Lovely administration and professional doctors. Never in the waiting area for long. Parking is a little small and sometimes awkward depending on how busy it may get. However, so far so good.
To the staff at QIHN, I'm trying to send you guys some feedback and I've been on your website & while there's some great information on it, there was no "contact us" page/option which most websites have these days, I… would've sent an email but couldn't find the address for you anywhere. If you can I would love to see a chat room or something similar where people could talk about experiences they've had & mainly to share information, anonymously..
Choose life
Considering this is one of the few places in Brisbane remaining that does bulk-billing for everyone, it is quite a decent place. If you can get past the potential riff-raff, the place runs on time, fuss-free and doctors… regularly call and communicate with their patients which is more than I've had from private doctors.
Proffetional
QuIHN was hugely instrumental in aiding my recovery a few years back now. MODS was an enormous help to me.. loved it ! I take recovery very serious now and have been clean from weed n speed two yrs this November. QuIHN,… Thank-you so very much for caring enough about me to invest time and effort into my life. My last name has changed since i was at your clinic yrs back but hey Thankyou to you all !!!!!! Is my art-picture still up on the wall?? Lol Thankyou again you have an awesome service for people willing to make real lifestyle changes for the better!!!!!!! Never forget you.. oh, I've gone on to study cert 3 in Comm Services on line and Diploma of Youth Work with Strategix College.. Loving it, and I know my 5 Children are proud of how far Ive come.... Bye for Now XXXX Julie-Anne
