About Springboard – Spring Hill

Springboard is a day rehabilitation programme at Spring Hill in inner Brisbane, run by Communify Queensland for adults living with both alcohol or other drug difficulties and mental health difficulties. The programme is free and offers a structured alternative to staying away from home for treatment.

Springboard runs over 18 weeks: a six-week intensive group, listed at three days a week, followed by 12 weeks of individual support with continuing access to the peer group. The approach draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and adds gym sessions, yoga, dietitian appointments and mindfulness. Supervised detox is not part of it. Adults can refer themselves or come through a support team using the referral form on the Communify website, with formal intake about a month before each group starts; you need to live in the Metro North or Metro South hospital and health service catchment.

Facility Type

Outpatient Mental Health Clinic

Springboard Alcohol and Drug Services

Springboard delivers a day programme plus aftercare rather than a treatment stay, and it is built for adults with co-occurring alcohol or other drug and mental health conditions. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy underpins group therapy, individual counselling, mindfulness, exercise and nutrition work, and peer support.

The structure runs in two stages: six weeks of intensive group work, then 12 weeks of one-to-one support while the peer group stays open. Gym, yoga and dietitian sessions sit within the timetable. Intake assessment comes first, roughly a month before a group begins, and groups run six times a year, about eight weeks apart. Springboard does not offer supervised detox, so withdrawal has to be handled elsewhere before starting.

How Much Does Treatment at Springboard Cost?

Springboard costs nothing to attend. Communify Queensland delivers the day programme with government funding, so the six-week intensive group, the 12 weeks of individual support that follow, the peer group, and the gym, yoga, dietitian and mindfulness sessions are all provided free of charge.

Private pay rates, private health insurance, Centrelink deductions, NDIS and WorkCover are not listed for Springboard. Because attendance is three days a week during the intensive stage, the real cost to plan for is travel into Spring Hill and time away from work over those weeks. The team can talk through what is covered when you enquire.

Springboard Reviews

Reviews of Springboard from around the web are limited, which is common for day programmes delivered by a community organisation rather than a private clinic. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for Springboard, and anyone who has completed the 18-week programme at Spring Hill is welcome to share their experience.

Public comment about Communify Queensland generally describes its broader community work rather than this programme. The detail that would help someone deciding is first-hand: how demanding three days a week felt, whether the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approach landed, how the shift from intensive group to individual support worked, and whether the peer group kept going afterwards.

I have done multiple recovery based programs over the years & this has hands down been the most beneficial. If you are serious about change & want to give yourself the best possible chance, you would be doing yourself a… missservice not to give this program a go. The content is delivered in such a way that it really lands. They also incorporate 2 weekly gym sessions into the program which has become a vital part of my recovery. 10/10

I am extremely grateful for this program and the amazing staff involved. The experience has been truly eye-opening, and the focus on mental health has helped me gain a much better understanding of myself. So many things… have clicked into place throughout the program, and I have learned valuable skills and perspectives that I will carry with me moving forward.

I went into this programme with all the trepidation I could muster and felt certain that at the presentation I would find it mechanical, tedious and unsuitable. But within the hour I was thinking that the approach it… offered seemed to be complete, supportive, comprehensive and hopeful. There is coffee, tea and snacks in case you find it difficult to prepare yourself in the morning. There were many things that I found quite fascinating and educational. Within two weeks it had me crying like a baby which was good as I felt it dug deep into some of my original problems and attitudes from a long time ago. I have a physical problem that I thought would make it difficult for me but there were plenty of breaks and diversity including gym (yes gym!). I will admit that my devotion to that was not great. Gym participation has to be approved by your doctor. So limitations are respected. Every aspect of this programme seems to have a legitimate purpose. Question; does it work? Answer; it did for me after a lifetime of disrespect to myself and my body.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you happen to find yourself reading this review like I once was, trust you are going to be able to look back on this as a pivotal moment for change. I never knew this mindset was possible for me and I have the… enormous pleasure attesting to how Springboard has completely transformed my life. Truly miserable, I used to operate almost exclusively on deeply painful beliefs and memories. I was depressed, isolated and my baseline was a mix of hopelessness, panic, anxiety and fear. Attending Springboard changed all of that and was the best decision I've ever made. Run by an extraordinary, genuine and caring team, the program provided me the insight into the how and why, and most importantly, the way out. I am eternally grateful 🙏 W.A'plates

The program facilitators are so friendly, they have such a positive and interesting approach to recovery. I will be… using the things I’ve learnt in this program in my day-to-day life. So grateful to have been given the opportunity to do this program. One day at a time 🙏❤️

Title: Embracing Transformation: My Journey with Springboard Communify In the heart of Spring Hill, amidst the bustling streets, I embarked on a transformative journey with Springboard Communify, a beacon of hope for… those seeking recovery from substance use disorders. This supportive community became my sanctuary, where compassion and resilience flourished. Springboard embodied the spirit of second chances, while Communify represented the power of community and shared experiences, reminding me that healing is not just a destination but a continuous journey towards a richer, fuller life. Together, we navigated the challenges of addiction, turning despair into hope and isolation into connection. I am deeply grateful for the dedicated team at Springboard Communify, especially Sam, Jess, Rachael, and Dan, who walked alongside me during my 18-week program. Their unwavering support and guidance, from the Learning Phase groups to one-on-one counseling sessions, have been instrumental in my recovery journey. On the 14th of December 2023, I proudly received my certificate of acknowledgment, marking the completion of the program's six-week Learning Phase group. This milestone symbolized not only my commitment to recovery but also the early steps towards the meaningful life I deserve. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Sam, whose compassionate counseling and assistance, including providing letters for the Honorable Judge during my court proceedings, have made a profound impact on my journey. Sam's support and encouragement have been invaluable, instilling in me the confidence to face life's challenges head-on. Reflecting on my time at Springboard Communify, I am filled with appreciation for the supportive community and the transformative experiences I've had. From mindfulness practices to gym sessions, every aspect of the program has contributed to my growth and healing. As I bid farewell to Springboard, I carry with me the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the renewed sense of hope for the future. I wholeheartedly recommend the Springboard program to anyone seeking support and guidance on their recovery journey. The welcoming environment, non-judgmental attitude, and endless support make Springboard Communify a sanctuary for healing and growth. Thank you, Springboard Communify, for being a guiding light on my path to recovery. May your values continue to inspire and empower individuals to embrace transformation and reclaim their lives. Warm regards, Christian

Springboard have the most wonderful, caring & understanding counsellors. At no time did I feel uncomfortable sharing any of my emotions with them, they were so supportive & caring, providing me with various ways to deal… with the day to day struggles of life & look at things in a more positive way then the way I use to. Thank you so much Jess, Rach, Sam & Dan for being there & sharing your own experiences. : )

If I could give springboard a rating out of 5 it would be 100. Recently I completed the 6week intense day rehab program which was definitely one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I have struggled with… addiction for more then 16 Years of my life, I am 30 so that's more then half of my life. And without springboard I wouldn't be where I am today. Not only were the staff amazing (Sam,Daniel,Rachel,Janie & Jess) I have made some beautiful connections with beautiful people that I will keep dear to my heart for my life. Freedom from addiction is possible, healthy connections is possible. Learnt some amazing strategies that will help me conquer whatever life throws at me . Now in the 12 week 1 on 1 management plan with my case worker Sam. & also there is peer group mondays and Thursday night on zoom which are very helpful. Couldn't recommend a better service!
